Also @ArchAngel950 sorry for getting back to you so late about this. No though a primate-esque race would be cool a howler is different. A howler is very humanoid except for its eyes that is the only noticeable outer difference. A howler also has very formidable strength to begin with so at the age of 5 they could pull themselves all the way up to the crows nest. They are also quite dexterous so they can (for example) balance themselves on the top of a sail Jack Sparrow style. They have magic ability as well. We also might do the primate-esque race thanks! :ar!
Not a problem.
I was thinking mostly swords, but you could enchant the boats wood and sails and stuff. There should be an alchemist path, which would be really hard, so you can turn any metal into gold! And ya Time slow should take part of your life span. Make it like a forbidden magic because of its danger. Add some mystery lore to the story. And sorry for putting all this late, I was at dinner with my father.
@Antitorpiliko Alchemist path? Iâm not gonna lie that would be dope but⌠It would be to much work In addition to what we have planned. However that could be a later game or just an add on for this one
I think itd be rewarding. but should only be done as a last add part of the game.
Ok in this post Iâm gonna recap everything that we have gotten right now.
So first off the game will be realeased in three parts each one called by the name of Act (ie Act one, Act two, Act three) the demo will most likely be up in one full month from today. The game is set in a fantasy world where the PC is a young pirate aspiring for the time honored title of âPirate Legendâ. In the game you will get a choice of 5 races to choose from. These will be: Avian, Gilloura, Howler, Human, Farrul.
Avians are humanoids with bird like features and the power to fly for a very short while. Avians have a reputation of being extremely quick, sly, very suspicious, and absolutely ruthless in their dealings with any other race, and the fact that they can use magic makes them even more formidable.
Gilloura are humanoids who have built an entire empire under the sea. They are more commonly known by a title that they absolutely hate, namely âfishsticksâ. This tenacious race is the terror of the Main, only second to the legendary sea drakes and krakens. The have hard scaly skin in varying shades of blue, from turquoise to cerulean, and have the ability to breath underwater and cast magic as well as inhuman strength, high intelligence, and are able sailors. They have a fearsome reputation in general and are found mostly in the world as traders, sailors, marines, mercenaries, and sea hunters.
Howlers are an odd race. They are not one of the original races that have been in the world since time began. Howlers were created magically and for the sole purpose of being âsuper soldiersâ at the Human governmentâs disposal in the beginnings of the Human vs Farrullan conflicts. Eventually the Howlers revolted and began a small empire of thier own on the Ice Rock islands which soon fell into chaos and as a result the Howlers all separated to find new lives. The Howlers have only one outer difference from the Human race and that is their eyes, they have a haunting quality and are usually yellow, green, grey, violet, or very unoccasionally a deep bloody red. In addition Howlers have formidable strength, uncanny dexterity, are naturally charismatic, and have access to magic. They are mostly found in the world as hunters (both bounty and monster), mercenaries, and marines.
Humans are the âjack of all tradesâ of the races, they are good in all things but they have no magic ability, however they can gain magic by a certain ritual however they must sacrifice a great amount of power in one ability to gain magic powers. Humans have the second largest government second only to the government of the Gilloura. Since most humans cannot use magic humans are very suspicious of any race that can use magic the result of which was the Human vs Farrulan conflict. As a result of this humans and Farrul have never seen eye to eye since.
Farrul are humanoids that have somewhat apelike features (ie longer arms, fur etc., they are also taller than most races). They are mostly sailors because their attributes are perfectly suited for that sort of thing, they are strong, charismatic, can use magic, and are a relatively peaceable lot. They are mostly found in the world as traders, innkeepers, and marines.
Ok let me explain marines to you, Marines are like the Interpol of this world. It consists of an army of all the races, the marines would pursue pirates beyond the borders of a government.
Ok not in this post let me go to sleep first then Iâll finish the recap lol I-)
I like it. and I canât wait for something to play now!
I am upset now, i was looking forward to elves, they are not overused at all, sure there used a lot but thatâs because they work. Plus elves would be perfect for the sea life, they are usually strong, dexterous, and they are by nature very magically capable race. They can probably climb the rigging the best, and they are GREAT wood shapers, they could build the fastest, most durable wooden ships. Elves are also great with bows of all kinds so they could have created special bows designed for ship to ship combat.Plus elves, if made right, are AWESOME. As for gov and religion: monarchy with noble clans and polytheistic with nature deities.
As for the dwarven race, they would fit perfectly, being how they are THE best forgers of any thing besides wood. Heck you could make it where they are the only race to have reach metal ship and submarines, seeing how they are perfect with building stuff. They are pretty good traders/merchants. You could make it where they are a friend-to-all-race(except elves seeing how dwarves and elves never really get along that well, its not that they hate each other but they just dislike the other) meaning they trade with all the other races so has to keep up their technological superiority. The perfect spot for their region of influence/empire capital would be the mountain ranges closest to the sea. As for gov and religion: think the dwarves in the Inheritance Cycle.
As for orcs, being so dim but ruthless, bloodthirsty, and clever could be like the enemy-of-all sea raiders, kinda like pirates, but more violent and battle hungry, donât really fight for greed just to fight, really just attack, kill, and pillage anyone they see unless its a fellow clans-orc. As for gov./leadership: they could be loosely organized under clans, each led by the strongest most capable warrior, who is thus titled Warlord, in their clan and how many ships in each clan depends on the strength of the clan. The warlordâs generals each get place on an individual ship as the captain. The clans fight each other for territory and prestige. Religion: Being such a warlike race, they could worship war or have a bunch of primitive war gods.
These are just suggestions as well as a point that they work so well.
But now i have some questions: *What will be the the governments/religions/society of the other races?
* Will there be different background choices for each race?
*Maybe instead of Pirate Legend, it could be Pirate King or King of the Pirates?
*What about character appearance, will their be choices to determine that?
@Cloudian to discuss the first issue bout elves and all no one said they wonât appear they will most likely be an NPC race. Same for the dwarves. youâll notice I didnât talk about NPC races in my post thatâs cuz it was getting really late and I was just too tired. As for orcs, I think we are gonna have them as the main enemy of this world bc of their savage nature and all, they will have a government something like what you described and we might bring that in as a plot point. As for the other things no I donât think there will be many background choices for the races or even one at all bc of all the coding we already have to do but as I said to @Antitorpiliko on his alchemist path, it could be an add on for after we release the first part same with the other races but that will come later if at all. Now the pirate king suggestion? That was actually the first thing we thought about but it kinda borrows alot from one piece the anime. And yes depending on class you get to customize your character looks
Actually @Cloudian ill guarantee you something. When we finish the first Act we will make an add on allowing you to play as a Celestial Elf. Canât tell you what they are bc it would bring out massive spoilers
Now as @Cloudian asked, and I quote âwhat will be the governments/religions/society of the other racesâ so Iâm going to answer that question:
Howler gov/religion/soc
Gov; as mentioned earlier the Howlers donât have one, they gave up hope on establishing one when their Ice Rock island mini empire fell.
Religion; the Howlers donât have one, believing that if there was a god, he wouldnâtve condoned the creation of a race as cursed as thiers.
Soc; most Howlers like to remain as secluded as possible from the rest of the world so these Howlers donât meet one another very much. The other Howlers might meet one another eventually and when they do it is usually with whirling blades. Whichever one wins the duel is considered worthy of respect in the losers eyes. After this little ritual most Howlers will go to the nearest inn, drown both their sorrows in as much alcohol as their purses will allow (sometimes even more), and boast of their greatest deeds. Afterwards the loser will leave vowing to beat the winner the next time they meet and then the Howlers both go their separate ways.
Hello. First off, this sounds like a great work so far. Iâm a big sucker for pirates.
For the magic system, you can use potions a la Witcher style. Of course the potions will cost a lot or have some draw backs so as not break the game. Perhaps one that can help you see better in the dark, or blood clotting so you donât bleed as much?
As for what Antitorpiliko said about making magic easier the more its used. I think that should only apply to weaker spells because if the larger spells get easier to use the game would become too easy imo. Unless thereâs a draw back.
Race wise, seems like you got a lot planned. Both typical fantasy and original. Does the crew change based on what race you choose? or will they all be the same no matter what?
@aurumcelest no the crew is still the same their reaction to you might change depending on race but thatâs it.
Will the crew of the MCs ship be the same race as the MC or will it be a mix or several different races?
Do we get to choose our second-in-command?
Will the crew on our ship be uniqe characters or will they just be somewhat faceless npcs with a name here and there?
@Cloudian first off are we good on the elf thing? Just wanna know. 2nd the crew will be a mix you do get to choose your second and no your crew at first will be veeeeery small like 7 people so youâll get to know them more personally so that if something happened to them the player would feel something tugging at their heartstrings we want the game to be both epic AND memorable
I love this, and wish time would move faster!
Ok description of the Avian race
Gov; comprised of city-states each has their own rules, Avians do not trust one another that is why the city-states were made. The main city-states are: Arliya-sho, Reshain-keth, Nakldarin, Zsuna Falls, these four main cities believe that they are the representatives of their race.
Religion; only believing in concrete proof the Avians have no official deity.
Soc; Avian society is based all on knowledge, the more knowledgeable you are, the higher place you have in society.
That is why most Avians are information brokers and scholars. High ranked Avians are marked by the number of feathers in their hair. If a lower ranked Avian meets a high ranked Avian they can(if they are foolish enough) challenge the high ranked Avian in a contest of riddles, If the lower ranked Avian wins they switch places with the high ranked Avian who has until midnight to kill the other Avian to regain his place in the hierarchy. If the Higher ranked Avian wins then the lower ranked Avian is executed for âan affront to thier bettersâ.
Nice, canât wait for this. I was a little disappointed that CoB didnât have the option to become a pirate.
@Headhunter180 were good on the elf thing, lol, long as were in agreement that the elves are beast.
The description of the Avian race sound a little bit conflicting. You say they are scholars and are a really smart race, but, then you go on to describe them in a way that makes me think they are primitive beasts, if they are so smart, why do they act so, i donât know how to say it but basically they resort to violence in the end. They donât sound all that intellectually advanced, paranoia/violence/lack of unity/ect⌠Heck if they donât win some riddle contest they resort to murdering their opponent and even if they do win they have their opponent killed. Sounds pretty dumb to me.
