Red Moon I: Rise and Conquer - A neverending medieval RPG

the first village Laven

@djma46, Fixed the shipyard error, thanks for reporting them. I’m still inspecting the hired horsekeeper error however.

Lol, TURKEY! MOM. is a preety epic name. And look! The video already has 25 views!

@AlexCosarca sorry, but being a grammar purist, I just have to point this out (it’s in the coding, it’s not even in the game!). R.e. the post at the top of this page, it should be die roll, not dice roll. It is impossible to roll a one with more than one die (die is the singular form of dice!) so a dice roll can be, at the lowest value possible, 2!

On a more important note, when travelling to the village (I believe it was called Yalta or something like that) I got attacked by bandits and, although they could not do any damage to me, I couldn’t kill them or run away successfully. I could hit them for 27 damage, but that had no effect- it still displayed them as having 40 health! If it helps, I was playing as a spearman and that was the first thing I did.

@Redgrave, I see; I always used dice, even for the singular form. I’ll keep it dice_roll for now (because changing it to die_roll would take a while), but thanks for pointing that out

Also, I’ve fixed that as well, thanks for pointing it out; the health was setting itself to the maximum amount every time it was the player’s turn in combat (which shouldn’t have happened).

Alex the game still don’t work in my phone a eternal loading screen. I will try with another browser.

@AlexCosarca how big are your scene files?

@fantom, it goes like this:
Laves.txt - 532kb
Seaham.txt - 407kb
DeadwoodForest - 346kb
Yalta - 230kb
Gortah - 128kb

And the rest are under 100kb.

Also, it may break because of the large amount of variables as well…approximately 1000 variables are currently in the game.

@MaraJade, it may not load because of the reasons mentioned above, although I’m not sure on that.

I can play it in opera browser :-)) but the option of wash the dishes don’t work also I can poison arrows and people and steal them?

You can’t add any effects to the arrows yet (I may add that option in the future though; fire arrows, poison arrows, ice arrows and all the sorts of arrows). About the dishwashing, I’ll check the reason for why it won’t work. Did you try washing them in the Village part of Laves?

is in the village you start the game I see the option to wash them but I can’t selected it and I got the dishes

So the option is unselectable (greyed out) ? It shouldn’t be, I used an *if, not a *selectable_if …and I can’t see any possible errors with that; weird.

I got a lot of problems with opera now finds a infinite loop between the name and all the selection until the worse skills I think is a browse problem your game hate me!

Music’s copyright infringement. It’s from Bethesda’s RPG game Morrowind. Hope you dont publish it with that or things might get complicated  Joking aside good game keep up the good work.

@umrahel, Thanks  And no, I won’t use the same music. The current music is there as a placeholder for when I’ll actually have sound tracks myself (which may take a while).

@MaraJade, It’s probably just the browser; it works for me on dropbox with Chrome and Firefox.

I like it so far. Couldn’t help but notice the Lord of the rings track or at least it sounded like Lord of the Rings. But as for the story it’s great can’t wait for more. =D>

NEWS:

Sorry I’ve been away for a few weeks; I’ll only be online in the weekends from now on (not all of the weekends though) but that won’t mean I’m not working on the game; The largest issues that I’ll have to deal with about the game will be the marriage/children/death, the sieging/taking over villages/making your own empire and the main quests. After I’ll be done with these issues, the game’ll be done shortly after that (if nothing else comes out). The last issue I’ll be dealing with is the main quests/story however (from the three mentioned above, this’ll be coming lastly).

Also, I’m using the way updates are displayed for Minecraft for posting the updates to my games from now on (+ for addition, - for removal and * for tweaking/bug fixing of features in the game).

UPDATE:

  • Slot Saving (a third type of saving) you can save using slots (thanks to @CJW for this awesome system!) just as you do with passwords. The advantage to saving with slots is that you don’t have to copy&paste anything as the saves are still there the next time you’re playing. I’ll still keep the password-saving style as it has one advantage: you can share the password with someone else to show him your character. Also, when you save, you don’t get to input a name for your save but instead your savegame will bear the name of your character, the level of your character and the number of (in-game) days passed since playing.

  • Building your own ship in Laves/Yalta/Seaham (you will be able to build two ship types, a frigate or a transporter, each with its own ups and downs, explained in the game manual).

  • Building your own fireplace in Deadwood Forest (after you make your house).

  • Cutting a plank into 4 sticks at the sawmill.

  • New Items: various book pages, flint, tinder, steel bar, silver ore/bar and bronze bar (their weights are in the game manual). You can find flint and tinder by searching for plants (tinder can only be found in forests and flint only in mountains).

  • New Plants: crystal nettle, mountainleaf, 5 mushroom types (green, red, blue, yellow, purple) and tree nettle. These don’t have a use as of now (but they’ll have various uses in the future).

  • Plant Searching in Deadwood Forest, Yalta, Seaham, Solway, Morpeth, Gortah and Jaguar Mountain.

  • Sailing with your ships.

  • New items, Goods: there are 7 types of goods you can buy at a shipyard (perhaps more to be added in the future) and which you can transport over to other villages only by sea (you may be able to transport them with caravans on land sometime in the future). If the game ā€œPatrician IIIā€ is familliar to you, this goods merchantry system should be easy to grasp (although this system won’t be as in-depth as the one in Patrician III). All of these goods and the merchantry system are explained in detail in the game manual.

  • Delivery Quest: you will be able to transport goods on sea from a village to another if you have a ship and enough room on it; take delivery quests from the shipyard worker. There’s the risk of being caught by the pirates and losing your goods, which means you will have to pay for them once you reach the village you were delivering the goods to, but if you transport them successfully, you’ll recieve plenty of gold coins.

  • Ship Chest: you will have a chest in each of the ships you own (to carry more items with you that aren’t goods).

  • New villages: Solway and Morpeth.

  • Two new buildings: The Bank (where you can deposit your gold coins and their amount increase based on your interest, which you can increase by increasing your reputation with The Golden Ones and with the village the bank is in, and also where you can take loans, which you have to pay after a time period. If you don’t pay the debt in time, you will be put into prison for a certain period of time, according to how large your debt is) and The Casino (where you can play casino games: blackjack, roulette, dice games and other games which are soon to be coming).

  • Another button: Ships as you can own two ships and both of them have their own separate stats which won’t fit to any other button.

  • Selecting the music track you want to play and pausing the music by pressing some new buttons at the bottom of the screen.

  • Going to prison and visiting the prisoners by entering The Throne Room (from there, you go to the prison as it’s in the basement of the throne room).

  • Buying Books at the Library building from the Librarians; reading the books (fully) gives you various benefits. Each book will be made out of 5 parts (pages). There are some exceptions from this rule however; a book which has fewer pages will cost more per page. If you can collect all the pages, you’ll recieve a certain special bonus according to that book type (as soon as you read, not own, all the pages). Also, you can see the content of each book and read it as well. You can only store the books on the shelf, where you can also store spells. You will not be able to buy more than a part (page) at a time, unlike other items you can buy. The game currently has 4 books from the total of 10-15 books that the game’ll have (which means 40-60 pages/parts).

  • Travelling with your horse (reducing the travelling time).

  • The Desk, a place where you can read your books. You can only read when you’re at a place in which there is a desk (a desk can be found in your house, in other houses you build or in several other places that could have a desk).

* Tweaked Combat so that the enemy deals much more damage than before and the player deals less damage.

* In most parts of the game, the health/armor bars shouldn’t display more than once at a time on the screen.

* The shelf should be working now properly.

* The inn room renting must be working properly.

* Sleeping in Yalta should no longer teleport you to Gortah.

* Some ā€œinexisting variablesā€ errors fixed.

* You should be able to store/take fishes/spells without getting errors both in Deadwood and in Seaham.

* Some typos fixed (if you find any, let me know and I’ll fix them as well).

* The Tiredness/Hunger/Thirst system should actually be working now (you will no longer get negative tiredness/hunger/thirst hopefully).

* An error when talking to Justin has been fixed (inexisting variable relationship_justing) - cheers to @timmy for finding that.

@Ada, indeed it is Lord of the Rings (it can be seen better now with the addition of the music changing buttons). More of the story should be coming next update hopefully

UPCOMING (not all of the features mentioned here will be coming in the next update, but sometime in the future):

  • Jaguar Mountain exploring (as soon as I’ll get suggestions/ideas for what I could add as possible exploring outcomes).

  • New Side Quests (still, probably no main quests) in various existing/new villages.

  • Languages/Language Teachers at the academies.

  • Naval warfare; you will be able to encounter pirates while sailing from a village to another.

  • Fishermen’s Guild in Wave.

  • The village of Wave, of course.

  • The Thieves Guild in Solway.

  • Weekly Taxes/Income, viewing your current income/tax balance in the Info button (surely in the next update).

  • Poker at the casino/minigame room (may take a while to code this).

  • New potions (that make use of the new plants in this update).

  • Merchantry with the pack horse on land (instead of using the ships on sea).

NOTES:

  • After this update, the game now has about 500.000 (it had approximately 220.000 words before the update), about 103.000 lines (it had approximately 50.000 lines before the update) and approximately 1900 variables (it had 1000 before the update).

  • I’m thinking of adding levels separately for each certain attribute, so that may come in the future. Also, with each level comes a benefit (1 level in the strength attribute equals an increase of 5 pounds to the maximum weight you can carry without being encumbered for example).

  • Any bugs/errors you find in the game, please post them here so I can fix them; also, if you have any suggestions, feel free to post them here as well
