I won’t reveal the identity of the Emperor here. And it’s left rather vague in the story as well.
A strong Emperor could just steamroll everything, yes. But the Varians are not ones to pull together unless it’s a serious threat. Despite having crowned a Varian Emperor, the Varian states themselves will keep fighting among themselves for a good long while.
The Varian Empire itself you can think of as a Holy Roman Empire, but without any sort of bureaucracy or central rule yet stamped on the lands. So there’s in name an Emperor and a court system where the Varians could go to get things sorted, but it’s overlooked because it’s crap and sending your armies across the border is just a faster, less complicated and oftentimes less expensive affair.
What is this Accadian Empire? That’s not mentioned in the game, right? (The notes on the stat page don’t count .) There’s this King mentioned in the timeline, Ulfgar, is he the original owner of the sword we can earn from Duke Roderick in chapter 1?
Sir, I’m not buying that “writer’s block”. I would be willing to buy the thread going through a “thread’s block” before we had to resurrect you. Also, I want applaud you for going towards that early arthritis, not everyone has the courage to do that sort of thing.
That’s nobody’s business but the… Oriental infidels also known as Sharanids… Man I need to rename them with something that rhymes with “Turks”.
Ulfgar doesn’t have an “h” in it. Although I wouldn’t discount the very remote possibility. Who knows how these things work.
When it comes to the story itself, I am halfway thought the first crusade siege scene and have been unable to move on in a particularly satisfying way for a good five days. Hopefully now that I’m done with the major points of this here timeline, I can go back to the story and get that going again. Especially now that I have it written down what kind of a culture and major events have shaped the Orient over the millenia
Writers block? In MY choice of game?
It’s more likely than you think.
I reccomend cocaine and watching the extended director’s cut of Kingdom of Heaven.
At the very least i reccomend beer for creative solutions and because it’s Friday! And on Sunday you can go to church to get into the vibes that our knight should feel when he must pray forgiveness for his conquered harem.
@noogai
A. Cocaine is surprisingly hard to come by, but the extended cut of Kingdom of Heaven was a good way to spend three hours.
B. I unfortunately don’t have any beer. Which is a shame, but at the same time nobody wants to read what I write when I’m drunk. It’s like a riddle within a riddle that’s constantly misusing big words and misspelling things as well.
C. I’m not one for churches. It’s also surprisingly hard to come by a Catholic or Orthodox church in a Protestant country. They’re around, but few and far between. It’s as if there’s at some point been a long and tedious religious conflict. That’s totally unlikely though. Christianity has never faced any schisms whatsoever.
Sharadids if you’re referring to the religious majority. Singular is Sharadid. That’s the western name for them, since they pray to the god Shar. He was the god of war in the Amartian pantheon but has risen to a god-above-other-gods status since then.
Masharet if you’re referring to the dark-skinned people of the Orient. Used in the west much like RL “Saracens” term. Singular is Mashar.
Then there’s the Sultanates of Amur, Qart-Hadast, Deseret, Mehet, Misraim, Jazirit, Sahab, Bigiwar, Saim, Madai and Al-Kerish. But then it just gets really complicated.
It was right there the whole time and I didn’t even see it until I re-read your post . . . I thought obvious sarcasm would be obvious. Just as I was writing what I thought would be an awesome comeback I imagined Admiral Ackbar telling me “It’s a trap!” and I ignored him. Damn. :’(
don`t mind the debuged mode but it lets me do things i can not do no matter how high my stats are in the ‘normal’ game.
also kinda bummed out that i can only do 2 things with the money to upgrade the earldome? (not counting the getting support of the church thing or the build a keep thing.)
ps is it just me but i do not feel like the choices i make inpact the story that much until like maybe chapter 4/5 i could be wrong but thats how i feel about it (unless your talking about the financial thing that was big)
pps could someone tell me how you get the king too cut your head off? i have played this game plenty of times now, i have yet too see that scene
Game ain’t dead, but like I have said above I won’t be updating the public version any longer. Have to leave some surprises for the finished version.
Unfortunately unforeseeable events with my family have pushed the finish line further away, but progress is being made. Slowly. Also the fact that I decided to make a late entry into the Paradox CK2-inspired Short Story Contest is a thing that isn’t helping. My focus is on that right now since the deadline is on the 15th. Who knew polishing a 5000 word short story could be so hard.
@redhead222
That’s the entire point of the debug mode. It’s there for those who have kept up with the story since the beginning and aren’t as interested to scroll through the first few chapters in order to get to the newer stuff and to test out the code without that same scrolling. Needless to say, it won’t be in the final version.
That’s kind of the course of choices though, isn’t it? You might get some instant rewards some times, but most of the time whatever decisions you make in life will only come to play later in life.
Take the royal bastard in when Arthur asks you to and then when you get the chance, tell the King about his presence. Your reward lies there.
@Goshman Amazing game…it took me some time to finish it but it was awesome I just thought that adding a few more choices would make the game better but I suppose you know what’s best for your game…and also have you thought about adding relationship stats or something like that? Anyway the game is very good the writing the story the choices,everything and I just wanted to know if you don’t mind answering…when do you think you’ll finish it?
I have issues with writing walls of text without breaking the stride with choices. That’s mainly because I rarely use choices that don’t have some consequence to them. I’m constantly on the prowl for places to smash some less consequential choices just to break it off a little bit and make it less laborious for readers. In the future release version I’ll have a big warning on the first page that this is much more of an interactive novel than a CYOA-style gamebook.
I’ve had a few questions come to me in private about the release. At the moment I am striving to be finished in a month or two at the most, opening it for a closed beta (for which I will make a separate thread when the time comes) and after a week or two of testing, depending on the feedback and work still needed on it, will be turning it in to the guys at CoG. After that it depends on the review processes.
@redhead222
Apologies for the late reply. I somehow missed that. You need to have been aligned towards the royal family. If you see Sir Edlyn’s name popping in and out every now and then, it’s likely you’re not royalist enough to get the choice. That and the other stuff I already stated.
Great game. I did not really mind the large text blocks between choices, I think the world you made is interesting enough (or I just like history enough) that it does not really matter. Take your time with the closes beta, this is shaping up to be a very interesting story. My only question is the marriage requirement, given that it is stated in game, could we choose to stay single as a warrior monk if your faith is high enough?
