That’s people’s prerogative. It’s what your MC did to them already. We cut them off because they were a detriment to our mental and emotional health due to them not being able to overcome the psychological trauma that they spent their developmental years living through and actively hurting our recovery process.
My MC is empathetic to those struggles and wants Zima to just be better and healthier. She’s willing to roll with the shit because she wants Zima to have one friend who is there for them.
I empathize with Zima because their psychological condition has been weaponized to maximize their gifts and understand how that can lead to resentment and bitterness.
My MC doesn’t care about Zima not liking her right now and them being upset as long as it doesn’t threaten the music which it has not yet.
I’m replaying the new chapter right now and we’re at the bar/grill eating right now and Paulette just mentioned that she can’t write a song or lyrics to save her life. And Angel said in his earlier interview segment that out of everyone in the band, Zima is the most loyal to everyone involved. If anything, she’s probably going to get pissed from the infighting due to her previous experiences with the MC and The Glasgow Reel.
The thing is, Zima’s not the lead. They are a backup vocalist.
I suspect they’ll be brought in to be a rhythm guitar + backup vocalist. Stevie and Angel don’t sing with us.
Angel’s a premier guitarist and will always be lead. They party hard and have that ferocious fire in them that’ll trigger fights down the road 100%.
Zima’s problems with us will be based around the fact that to get the best out of them, they must compete with us or be forced into a situation that feeds their inferiority complex.
They’ll fight for the band and be loyal to it. But the issue is that in order for them to bring out their best they’ll have to feel small.
Yeah, there’s definitely a certain complexity with Zima that’s really hard to sort into black and white. They’ve for sure been through some shit, both caused by and consequently causes her instability. I have been in both the role of Zima and MC and I see myself in both of them. Everything they do is uncomfortably familiar to me (but dw, it’s just a signifier that this is really good writing for both of them!!)
Of course, the best outcome for Zima is to find someone who can and does put up with her and is willing to go through whatever she might potentially do to either of their mental states. They know this. They also probably know it’s very very rare to come across a person who will genuinely care for them like that. Most people can’t handle that specific type of relationship, and they’re definirely not bound to it in any way. It’s just that with an attachment disorder like Zima’s, I feel their self destruction is akin to a coping mechanism, meant to either fan people off from getting too close for comfort or to look for people who will love them through thick and thin. This mindset is very flawed, I know. I do think they know that what they’re doing is unhealthy and unsustainable, but it’s also INCREDIBLY hard to change, even with therapy and a support system.
I feel like this might also be what they’re doing to MC; for a more empathetic MC, most definitely. If an indifferent/resentful MC, I believe they just have anger and regret over what could have been.
From what I can understand so far, Angel is the Press Play’s version of Dimebag Darrell/Randy Rhoads type (meaning he’s considered by Simon to be one of the greatest guitarist to shred) so I can see quite a lot of issues coming from him, Stevie and the MC. I assume that he’ll want to try his hand at songwriting as at this point it looks like we wrote at least 90% of the songs so far while Stevie got 10%
And honestly, I wouldn’t mind letting anyone trying it out. In fact, I do hope we get a option to ask the others to try to write at least 5 songs and see how we can help them improve from there.
One of the hardest things for people who get hurt like Zima has is for them to fully 100% commit to the idea that they are worthy of being loved and it’s not a betrayal to seek to be better.
Another hint about Angel that I want to point out is that Zima and him probably spent the whole time they were famous waiting for the other shoe to drop that they basically self-actualized it.
@bored93 I’m cool with them getting a chance to write one or two songs on the album.
Oh absolutely. Mfw you get broken up with/unfriended for no malicious reason at all and then suddenly you’re convinced that everyone hates you and that you must have done something wrong. It’s very hard to hold people like this to a “normal” standard of social interaction and social relationships.
It’s in one of his interviews. The “it felt we were always under siege…”
That’s an implication that an individual feels insecure in their talents and needs to continually operate in a climate of (to use my band) “Teal Oasis vs Everybody.”
This isn’t a knock on him as an individual. Angel is highly goal oriented, self motivating, and burns furiously bright.
It’s just that when you have this mindset you are waiting for the hammerblow.
Thanks! That’s an interesting analysis. I’ll look for that on my next playthrough. I always got the impression he was sure of their success.
Going just by that line it could also mean that there was a lot of pressure on them to succeed and stay successful. But I’m being presumptuous since I don’t know the context of that quote.
You can be sure of your success while needing to always create a chip on your shoulder to ensure you always remember what you’re going for.
Angel needs that chip on his shoulder to perform at the highest level he can.
I know, from how he treats the parents he meets that he also is filial. He 100% bought his parents a home, all cash, and paid for his siblings college.
But this also creates a competitive person who always wants more and can also chase highs and passions in a way that can hurt the band.
Which will earn my MC’s ire. He 100% is going to fucking get thrown in jail for stupid shit.
I didn’t think you’d know Smosh but yeah I agree with you.
I genuinely believe that this is what will happen at some point so I’m bracing myself for the scene and his funeral where we might have to do an eulogy. That’s probably going to break me as a reader and Angel the most that he’ll probably turn to hard drugs to cope. Angel and Madds practically grew up as brothers with different parents.
The fucking marketing of the band even after the breakup is that the initial core all were good friends from the same university + a childhood friend of the frontwoman(man).
You can’t fucking escape each other. You all have to do the press tours together, go on SNL, and talk shows.
When you’re not touring you’re in the studio recording music together.
The Who released a new album recently. Roger Daltrey recorded his lyrics and sent them to Pete who went into the studio and did his magic.
They both agree that it’s better for them to love each other from a distance because they can’t help but get into fights when they’re in close proximity.
Yeah sometimes the best thing a band can do is just spend time apart. That was the case for my favorite death metal band, Job For A Cowboy. They’ve been touring and making albums together for years until they stopped for over a decade so the members could focus on their personal lives. They recently got back together though and their new album a couple of years ago ended up being their best work by far.
We let Angel get a song every album and maybe write a verse or two on others and then when he starts to get into his party and drugs stage he starts to slack so Stevie and the MC kick him off it to finish our sophomore album and he loses a chunk of revenue.
Sure, logically he gets why we had to break the deal but it still is painful financially and also personally.
It won’t be one massive row, it’s going to be a thousand of them over at least a decade.
@bored93
Mick and Keith also got into massive fights. Mick, after they got reamed by their manager + record company took over the finances of the band and ran it extremely well. But it meant that Keith couldn’t live like he wanted for a period of time and it fucking pissed him off.
Stevie’s too rational and calm and it’s going to piss off our bandmates because she’ll probably take over the money and make sure that we live within our means.
Oh I’m well aware of their history. My dad and one of his friends loved The Who and took it upon themselves to teach me the history of rock, School of Rock style with Jack Black.
But uh… That’s honestly not even that bad when you consider the Norwegian black metal band, Mayhem. All I can really say about them is that… Their fights ended up having a couple of fatalities.
Honestly I’d be okay with that as long as I can provide for my mother in the poor background. She deserves nothing but the best for all she did for my MC.
My mc would be okay-ish with such a thing but he would want to be involved and learn to manage money himself too since if he does get wealthy he wants to stay that way since he knows how miserable being poor can be.
Also agree with this. Thinking we should tear down the old cottage and replace it with a proper house, assuming the plot of land it sits on is large enough, sometime in the future when the mc can afford it.
Oh, one more thing I notice the mc doesn’t drive cars or motorcycles like ever, not even mom’s or Stevie’s cars as the designated driver sometime. It the mc one of those people who is completely unsuited to be driving anything at all or is the a unique feature of the poor mc background and has poor mc never bothered to learn how to drive because mom always needs the car anyway?
