Yep, it’s all female locked and it irritated me to no end. After I found out they cancelled the sequel to murder at homecoming, the one where you get to find out what happened to the MC older sister, I deleted the app. At this point I will wait when I hear about the blade of light and shadow book 2 to redownload it.
Those new stories are usually very shallow, I usually just watch someone play on YouTube if I’m curious, instead of playing. Oh and there’s that story with the fae LI that I think they tried to go for a kinky story with a sub/bratty MC and ended with Stockholm Syndrome.
I saw something on tumblr about a sequel for Blades of Light and Shadow and if this is true I’ll play for sure. It was one of my favorite stories there.
Oh, it looks delicious , I’ll try it as soon as I can.
Personally I won’t touch anything that is pay to play, pay every week/month, etc. If you want my money, give me a finished product. OK, I confess I’ve bought a few games in early access but it’s another thing. My point is there are too many games to choose from anyway, so why would I pay ridiculous amount of money for some stupid scheme.
I dunno if I can join in on everyone’s cooing around Touchstarved. Like sure, the art is gorgeous, put I’m really peeved by how much drama is happening just because the MC can’t invest in a pair of goddamn gloves instead of bandages that unravel themselves with such convenience. Plus being a third wheel, oh joy.
I’m intrigued by Touchstarved; that game looks like it has so much potential. I love the graphics and the premise of the story, and I see all your reviews about the MC potentially being the third wheel. Sadly, I agree with all of it. Tbh, it makes me hesitate to buy a full game because I don’t want my MC in a situation like Andromeda Six and Lunaris Games, who don’t treat their MCs well in the romance department.
Ah, the plot holes don’t bother me, I’m all about the drama of missing the feeling of touching someone. But the third wheel thing, I don’t know why all those indie otomes have this urge to make their characters banging each other. Their point probably is trying to make their characters more fleshed out, but there are so many other ways of doing this.
The thing that reedemed a little Variable Barricade (not all the game is bad but they fucked up so much in one of the routes - the MC was awful, the other LIs were awful, I would happily forget that route if I could) was the scenes that we got to see when the MC was not around: some silly and funny scenes of the LIs being friends and bonding. Instead of they banging, would be cool to see more of the LIs like that, supporting each other and being friends.
There is one thread on this board that discusses this, and there are a lot of people who love this crap. I hate it. When I said I hate it, someone told me they understand being “jealous”, which is not the case–I just don’t like RPing a third wheel and intruding on what is clearly the author’s preferred pairings. In a lot of games now, you’d better damned well choose which RO path you want immediately. Otherwise, you’ll get to see them with some other team member being happy, while your MC gets nothing but angsty bullshit on their path.
That’s one thing that I really appreciate about Wayhaven, despite my numerous complaints about it. We don’t have to worry about A falling in love with N when we aren’t on A’s route. On M’s route, they’ll be getting laid, but Sera has said it won’t be mentioned except in passing (personally, I’d rather not hear about it at all, but it’s M… and I probably won’t be playing the other paths anymore, anyway).
Edited to add:
And this isn’t really an otome, and it’s really short, but it’s very cute and you get to flirt with a cute orc:
There’s a potential third wheel thing again in Touchstarved? That’s a bummer to be honest… It’s to late for me now since I supported the Kickstarter but so far, Kuras is the only LI that interest me so far!
I don’t know if this recommendation fits right there because this game isn’t exactly an otome or even a Visual Novel, it’s an Interactive Fiction on Twine.
But, damn, the game is so good that I have to share with you all . It’s a work still in development, and the second chapter was released yesterday.
The same author has a Visual Novel called Perfumare, which is amazing too. Now they are expanding the plot from Perfumare to IF format.
(the Visual Novel. It’s complete, but is a teaser for the plot of the Interactive Fiction version)
Not an otome game but BLits Games just had the kickstarter for their new game, Jock Studio, go live. Despite their first game being a little too much BL for my liking, they have been pretty consistent in making banger games that are both extremely 18+ but also with great characters and good relationships.
