Other CYOA/IF games?

Does anyone else use any of those episodic, visual-novel, romance cell phone apps? Like Choices, Episode, Series…there are dozens of them now. They’re mostly horrible. Bland stories full of paid, “premium choices,” and the same shy, in-over-her-head protagonist every damn time.

But…

I’m absolutely addicted to them! Am I alone?

Don’t take it personally, but I definitely hope you are alone in that regard.

I tried choices I think it was once just to see. The story was so awful that I’ve never gone back. Also it was like “do you want to do [interesting thing] or go home and have an early night. If you want to do [interesting thing] cough up money. Then 2 choices later: Do you want to wear a stunning outfit? Or just turn up to your scholarship interview in dirty street clothes. Cough up more money if you don’t want to wear street clothes. And keep paying for very little story value.” The choices were horribly unbalanced. I guess I wouldn’t mind on principle if you could pay for the whole story or a subscription, but I hate money sink transactions so that probably soured me on the whole thing more than anything else.

Bite your tongue! Mobile gaming is thriving, and Dream Quest is one of the best video games ever releases in any medium. Brings out the masochist in me I didn’t even know existed.

This looks and “feels” like a scam site to me - a place I would be afraid that is harvesting personal info for non-legal purposes.

I believe I would be if I allowed myself to use them. Which is why I don’t use them.

I don’t understand this comment.

These are the ultimate microtransaction streams that many legit and established game publishers look to for inspiration – my hope is the world will legislate this business model out of existence.

The slot machine apps are quite addictive as well for that type of “mindless fun” that sometimes is needed…

O.K. Good because I took the post wrong then … you might want to edit it to reflect this, for those not comprehending your meaning correctly.

The app I had ( Its been a few years now) was put out by the Casino group that runs the Mirage casino and it “replicated” their slots… I don’t know if it still exists … but it was a good little app. lol

I meant that I hoped she was alone, in that those other app sites are both competition to this place and, honestly, just seem to be kinda meh.

Isn’t there one with lots of Universal properties like Saved by the Bell, The Breakfast Club and Xena Warrior Princess? That one sounded pretty crazy. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

OMG that one is the WORST (says the girl who’s played every single story on the app.)

That one doesn’t save your premium choices. So not only do you say…have to pay $2.00 to kiss your girlfriend at the end but it doesn’t save your purchase history so that if you want to replay a story they expect you to pay AGAIN for any “premium choices.”

That is pretty egregious even by freemium standards.

Damnnnnnn. Glad they never did one of those with Marvel or Star Wars ladies, I would have been screwed.

@derekmetaltron
Shhhhh! Don’t give them any ideas.

It’s a shame, because if they had a different business model I think they could actually be fun, but paying for the obviously better choice takes all the fun out of making that choice.

I played Choices. I used the romance ones to earn diamonds for the stories I like. There are some good stories in that app in fairness to them like the Most Wanted and It lives series.

Shame that the Most Wanted don’t have a sequel. I’ve been hoarding diamonds in hopes that when sequel comes out I have enough for those premium choices. :joy:

Do any of the Choices games actually have the option of playing a male character? I realise the core audience is probably female but I always figured there should always be something for male players in the romance genre, even if we aren’t predominant!

The only recent ones have a male counterpart but not all unfortunately.

Edit: Here’s the complete list if you’re interested:
