some fixes and changes (mostly what was pointed out)
got rid of hyphens!
a small scene (character introduction) added
This scene is small, but a lot of code went into it. For example, if you choose being friends and then being rude, you’ll get a different reaction then rival/rude or friend/nice etc. These changes are so minor compared to the time it takes to incorporate them, and most people would probably not even know they are here unless they play around with the options, but it’s something I want to continue doing.
I will likely continue to update the game on a scene-by-scene basis as I’ll be finishing them.
Thanks again to everyone who provided their opinions =^^=
Points at what @ParrotWatcher said. He pretty much usually says what I think…just with boys instead of girls lol
Its a good start, though short, I enjoy Japanese culture a great deal so a story taking place in a similar world is always a plus for me. The stats screen though didn’t have a way to get back and apparently the Goddess doesn’t want me to be friends with Aki, cause I got an error
Akio was kind and reliable; one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. When we were still chidren, we played together, trained together, laughed and cried together too; this bond only got stronger with time.
I’ll go back and edit it (and everything else coughhyphenscough) later.
This said, the Prologue is now finished, which means that the plot should take off properly now. The next part should be 50% plot stuff, 50% meeting the rest of the cast and start of relationship-building. Finishing it would put me at… 1/4 of the story?
Also, due to the storyline, it’d make sense for me to introduce bad - YOU DIED - ends there, but I’m not sure people like those.
Well, I don’t. They can leave me feeling rather cheated, especially if they’re just based on a single stat check. If it’s a well written ending (especially a heroic self-sacrifice) then that’s better. And if you do add death, please add in a “retry last scene” feature. Death in video games is generally fine because you can save and continue, but that’s not always something you can do with these games, and replaying the entire plot just to not die this time is generally not fun.
Yes, I understand, which is why I’ve asked. Thing is, these bad ends should be pretty obvious in that you’ll be told not to do this and that, but some players might want to do “this and that” anyway… haha.
I’ll definitely look into the “Save” feature if I end up including them.
I generally forget to save these things… I meant more something like:
You are dead:
*choice
#Retry from start of battle.
#Go to game start.
#Quit.
My WIP also has the option to just automatically win the fight (or at least that part of the fight) if you’ve died, but that’s probably not for everyone…
Fun bit of trivia before I go to sleep: friend!Aki, rival!Aki and… indifferent!Aki have somewhat different personalities and interactions with the MC. Because I obviously love variables and writing many versions of one scene :")
Updated with the first part of Ch.1 (out of three for this part of the story) =^^=
All character introductions are done now. The rest of the chapter will be some action scenes and skill- and relationship-building opportunities.
I decided to get rid of the “Relationship” stat since it doesn’t work well with the story. Overall I think I’m having fun, so I’ll continue working on it. Though I decided to adopt a more “write first, edit later” approach so some things are going to be a bit rough.
