I didn’t even know the detective had a gun but I imagine it failing horrible against the monster like the sword. I suppose the roles that already have guns are naturally better but the guard has to be the best for obvious reasons.
Yea lol the sword one made sense after I sat and thought about it and got the light bulb over my head like “ohhh that’s probably if you DIDN’T bring it” definitely makes more sense.
And then for the crime, I guess I was confused because I had 3 Crime at the end of one of my plays but couldn’t pinpoint when my MC did anything crime worthy.
Also, smh one of my MCs definitely does not need a gun, actually two of them. This is such a bad idea lmao . Well the other already has one and is a killer with anger management issues, yikes. The first one is literally a sweetheart but is an adrenaline Junkie and just does whatever.
Not my original playthough, lost that savefile, but here’s a completed game

Yep, the gun fails as well to drive in the point that you really need enchanted weapons to fight these things.
The detective and guard are about even skillswise regarding shooting (if that makes any sort of difference to what background someone might like to use). The former is a police detective (not a private eye), so they’re the one who’s actually had to pull a gun on someone during their stint as a patrol cop (meanwhile no one’s tried to break into where the guard has been assigned).
Neither has ever had to fire on someone however (that would’ve come up in flavor text already at this point), so it’s skill that’s purely come through training.
Exactly three, huh. Did you choose the serial killer secret for that playthrough? (Also what could possibly go wrong with a gun backfiring in your face like you went back to the time of flintlock and gunpowder? )
Thanks for the stats and congrats on getting Run Run Run Runaway!
Played around some more because I wanted to fight the hellhound. I was wondering if the fight and flight options there are actually selectable or just for show?
Also I was wondering if it’s actually possible to fight the hellhound there or Adrian will always tackle you and kidnap you before you can try hitting it?
Is it possible to bring Excalibur with you when going outside?
Additional note, idk how relevant this is but I noticed that if you go to “what does Camelot have to do with what’s going on now” while talking to merlin and then select “but what was Camelot” all the options are in quotations and seem like speech options.
I was a playing mute MC and “hasn’t spoken a word yet” wasn’t removed by picking any of them but just wanted to point out there isn’t really an obvious mute option or anything indicating when a choice will keep your mute status even though it’s in quotes like speech (which may be the case for other options too but I haven’t looked into it that deeply).
Also is the minigun only supposed to be available to killer background? Because even with inhuman background and police detective I’m able to pack the minigun at the end.
Here’s stats:
Thanks for the stats! I’m going to need to double check what’s going on with Intimidation, it seems to be going bonkers in some of these reports.
If you’re talking about the fight/flight/freeze(Zalgo text) option that pops up before Merlin arrives, then yeah, you won’t be able to do anything there since the hellhound is using its mental powers against you right then.
Otherwise, Adrian will always intervene if you try to fight the 2-story demon since he thinks it’s a really, really bad idea and is rather invested in the MC’s well-being. (He’s probably dying inside when the MC attempts it with nothing but a hardcover edition of Stephen King’s The Stand.) There are some unseen benefits if you do try and fight however (particularly for some MCs who are deficient in certain stats).
You can bring Excalibur (either whole or broken) on the roadtrip with you, but you can’t bring it with you to the earlier club meeting. (That’d be a bit random even for an Arthurian level fanboy.)
And good eye regarding the “but what was Camelot” option. That choice is only available if you missed an earlier scene where Merlin explains Camelot but that earlier scene was triggered by dialogue, hence the assumption that MC has already been speaking. The next update will include a version that takes into account mute reactions as well.
The micro machine gun is available to MCs who’ve chosen to have criminal activities as their hobby. Basically the Dark Web and sketchy connections option where you end up first meeting Adrian in a dark alley.(It’s actually revealed in some flavor text buried somewhere or other that Adrian was handing over the microgun during that particular meeting). So, if the microgun is showing up for any MCs who didn’t choose that hobby, than that’d be a bug.
The Cloudcuckoolander MC dislikes that post.
Will we be the fix the sword if it broke later in the road trip and can we trick shot with the gun when it’s powered up with magic?
You’ll be ‘acquiring’ better weapons than just a replica starting towards the end of Chapter 2. Although there’s still things that can be done with the fake Excalibur even if it’s broken (there’s a reason why you can pack its broken shards after all).
Considering how dangerous the enchanted guns are to the user, I wouldn’t risk trick shots if I were you. Being enchanted means that the guns/bullets will be able to puncture the magical aura of demons and such and actually be able to hurt them, but it’s not really doing anything else special to the bullets (because the more magic you pump into something like that, the greater rate of possible backfiring).
That’s fine I guess. I just wanted to look cool kicking demonic butt with a trick shot or two. I guess it’s wishful thinking since I don’t know how magic works properly yet. As for the sword I guess that’s up to me if it breaks. I wonder if we get to pick a type of sword we can use as a better one.
This is such an interesting fusion of genres and themes, I’m intrigued. I love your writing style and will be following this project closely! Thanks for the treat!

Well, let’s just say you’ll have to live long enough to regain your powers to pull off trick shots and cool moves regarding your supernatural enemies. Regarding the weapons themselves, there’s foreshadowing in the talk with Merlin on the topic of fighting the demons and what weapons are needed to do that. You’ll at least get a choice regarding the weapons you’ll be using throughout the rest of the book.
Thanks for the comments and stats! Always good to see someone picking the Magic 8-Ball.
I WANT MORE!! I think I am in love, the character customisation is impeccable

I never imagined that a simple hobby like gardening would result in having a tiny collection of adorable carnivorous plants!
Grow large and strong, Audrey III ! <3
My beautiful and totaly normal sized Venus Flytrap!
( Still, I have a very very small hope that gardener Mc might be Gunivere–because, her entire association with flowers could have taken a whole new meaning, more badass )
Edit: @Unregistered

Awww! Thank you! Audrey is such a diva
I believe Adrian was the one who said Mc could take Audrey III, and i squeaked with delight since, up until the very last second, i had been worried about poor Audrey—she would not fit into a normal backpack.
However, I vehemently disagree with the gossip that Audrey may be a little over-grown .
Those are just Adrian’s hollow insinuations–he is obviously jealous of Audrey III and Mc friendship.
And yes, my Mc has performed some sick dance moves and a’la primabalerina spins, while holding Audrey III’s pot beneath her head. It was awsome. (Adrian strongly disagrees, flated against the wall)
Saw this a few days back and thought that this would just be a slightly good alternate version of the king Arthur story. It blew WAY past my expectations. I especially loved how the character creation affects the story later on unlike in most IF games. what’s the story behind the Amnesiac route? I followed another route but am really curious about that and too lazy to start the wip all over just for that.

Thanks for the stats + comment on the character customization since that’s been getting some mixed reviews.
Yep, totally normal and not anomalous at all. Good to hear you like Audrey, she was originally going to be a casualty of the apartment burning down but I decided to let the MC bring her along at the last moment.
The character creation/customization being what it is probably why the first chapter is 446k+ (and also is probably why most authors don’t take it into account that much), but it’s always good to hear that it’s been appreciated.
Regarding the amnesiac route (both the childhood and the deep dark secret that could be based on it), that’s one of the longterm potential subplots ongoing for the MC.
Finished my fourth playthrough of the game a few days ago, and I gotta say it’s impressive just how seamlessly you’ve blended together the horror, fantasy, mystery, and comedy genres into one incredible package, plus a few more I’m probably forgetting. I was floored by the quality of the game when I first played it and even now I’m still in awe over the story’s modern mid-apocalyptic epic with Arthurian myth as the backdrop of the setting. In addition to all the other lovely inclusions like having sound, images/animation and the ability to message characters mid-game.
It takes a certain kind of mad genius to come up with this idea and somehow make it work, and I can already tell this whole endeavor is gonna be a masterpiece come release.
That being said, I really hope you’re pacing yourself and following a healthy-ish schedule, because while I’m a fan of lovingly detailed interactive fiction a la Kreg Segall’s Jolly Good series and certainly wouldn’t mind a 6 million word release, I’m also painfully aware of how easy it is for a writer to burn themselves out. The health of the creator always comes first, after all.
Hopefully most of the word count was due to the exposition and giving our MC a taste of what’s to come, and now that most of those are out of the way things will be easier moving forward.
Oh, and for stats, my current main MC is an affable, coolheaded police detective who’s about as intimidating as a dormouse… and is also a high-functioning sociopath that likes moonlighting as a serial killer. Think early Dexter Morgan minus going after only bad people… or maybe Merlin but with less emotions or morals, I guess.

The only reason they’re gonna help save the world is because the demons struck them first. Also it’s a good excuse to go on another “hunt” (and maybe finally get that ass who moved to another country.)
By the by, how do I shoot Ed?
Other, very important questions that also come to mind:
-
What happened to the other vices like Pride, Gluttony or Envy?
-
What was your inspiration for the story?
-
Will the big boys like Lucifer, Beelzebub or even Odin make an appearance, and if so, will any of them be important to the plot?
-
How close can you combine magic with science before it starts to become unstable? I ask because I really want to use a magic chainsaw at some point. It’d pair well with the numerous guns, knives and general instruments of death I’ll be collecting.
-
Are you aware of Scarlet Hollow or Slay the Princess? Because those games are also horror comedy romance mysteries with a supernatural bent that I think you and others might enjoy.
That’s it for the questionnaires. Once again, exquisite WIP, hope it gets more love and I’ll be
w༙̌ǎ༙ť༙č༙ȟ༙ǐ༙ň༙ǧ༙ v༙̌ě༙ř༙y༙̌ č༙ľ༙ǒ༙š༙ě༙ľ༙y༙̌ to see what happens next. Cheers.
I’m my case, it’s a lie.
Thanks for the stats and the comments on what you liked! Some of the elements have received mixed reviews (the comedy, the sound effects) so it’s always good to hear various opinions on them. The exposition dumps are indeed out of the way now (no one else will know much of anything worth mentioning… or at least they’ll act that way), so hopefully that picks up the pace.
As long as you have your handgun with you (or any other weapon that hasn’t been tucked into your luggage), then the option to pull it on the night watchman should be available. Please note that you actually do have to choose to bring the Glock-19 with you in the packing scene as the MC doesn’t bring it by default. If you had the gun at the time and the option still isn’t triggering, please LMK.
Since the vices have a big impact on the story, I ended up pruning three of them. Trying to juggle seven vices at once would’ve been too much. Regarding the appearance of gods and demons… let’s just say how much Merlin has to say about them in the lore dump scene foreshadows the likelihood of their involvement.
There’s no direct inspiration for OKS. I got sick, saw this post on the forum while I was snooping around, and went “I’ve been here since the very first game Choice of the Dragon, I bet I could do that while I convalesce and stick it full of my favorite things!” and here we are.
Magic and technology can exist fine side by side, it’s when they’re trying to occupy the same space that things tend to get… explosive. Now there’s probably going to be people trying to finagle that point going “But what if I enchanted the blade of the chainsaw and left the motor alone?!” (Merlin is trying that themselves by offering to enchant your bullets, not the gun itself) but ehhh… it’s still a part of a single whole. You’d be perfectly fine until you tried to turn it on and then you’ll be gambling with luck.
Scarlet Hollow and Slay the Princess does sound vaguely familiar, so I may have heard of them in passing, but I can’t say I’ve been following the development of those games. I used to be pretty deep into the visual novel community, then I ran out of space on my computer.

Hopefully it renders correctly and doesn’t just look like a mess. I copied and pasted it from the demo, and what a demo it was!
I wasn’t expecting it to contain horror, but the parts where it did made me feel so unsettled, I couldn’t stop reading. The way it blends seamlessly with comedy is such a nice touch as well. Made me laugh out loud more than just once or twice. One of my favorites, instantly.
