hello!! i’m normally not into commenting on threads lmao (very much a lurker like a real life ash) but !!! this game is literally so good? i remember seeing the demo for invite only (what it was called back then i think) on a random tumblr thread and getting invested in it only to forget about it until i realised the gray painter was released and i was like :open_mouth: that’s the game!! anyway the horror elements were absolutely delightful and even though i became the new?? gray painter?? or something similar after killing them?? harper is still alive and i can smooch him so that’s all that matters AHA
i loved how realistic everyone was, no one seemed perfect and even the monster seemed very much, human? but in a very distorted way - in the sense that like. i could understand the motivations of it, so kudos to you on that. and the deja vu?? time loop?? aspect got me good i. did not get so far with the demo last time so when the ravens were mentioned i was like OH SHIT and the opportunity to call the gray painter out with the bold highlighted text and choose the really vague options which made everyone concerned (like the choice where you could go and say that staying with harper and you were keeping him trapped or something along those lines) was imo very very compelling and poetic

definitely going on my virtual shelf on top horrors amongst other classics like highlands, deep waters <3

out of curiosity though, was there a reason that you kept Ash as a fixed name or was that just a nod to the gray painter (ash… gray…)?? no complaints here really lol but i just thought it a bit odd considering it doesn’t seem to have any outward impact on the story (or maybe i just missed it ehe)

In the first demo that was released, the main character’s name actually could be changed! There was some confusion about how much the main character could be defined by the reader and how much was pre-set. Setting the name to permanently be “Ash” helped clarify that Ash has a distinct personality, identity, and history that is not defined by the reader.

I just finished my first playthrough and wow, this was something else. It started off strong and then kinda slowed down for a few chapters, but the closer i got towards the end the more i got this overwhelming sense of dread, like something isnt right. But the ending i got was just, normal, plain, almost depressing, and that just made it seem so perfect. Overall this game was and is amazing, it reminds a lot of a kiss from death in the creeping feeling i got as i played. Im definitely gonna sink as many hours into this as i did kiss of death.

slater and i jus not meant to be frfr. i killed his man, specifically chose to be gay (instead of pan…think that did jack shit :skull:), and chose everything that so much as had slater in it. i think i need a break. im too obsessed trynna get with this man

You should also never encourage Jan to get with Slater. Even when playing truth or dare, don’t ask Jan anything about Slater.

Fun fact, my grandfather’s name was also Jan. his name is pronounced the same as the Dutch settler that came to South Africa in 1652, which was Jan Van Riebeeck.

Hey, there is a scene where fierna takes us all to her bar with the mementos which she despises. We get the option of being creeped out by the place and also how come fierna reached the bar before us. That option always gave me goodebumps, i dont know why but ash mentioning that it was odd for fierna to be the first to reach is somehow unsettling. And I still dont understand what that option actuslly meant?

Wish I knew. I still wonder for example how to get the 40% confidence in order to ask Harper why she never picked me up at work.

now i feel bad for killin him

Lol don’t. They may have the same name, but they have completely different personalities and style.

This game is so amazing that I almost have too much to say about it… but I came here specifically to comment about the. “My brother my brother and me,” podcast reference. It absolutely killed me, I was so confused as to why they were referenced as “edgy,” when I realized this story takes place in 2012 and there content has apparently changed a LOT since then. 10/10 reference. Fantastic

A little late to the party here, but I’ve played this four times now and I think it’s one of the best of these I’ve read in the last ten years. Absolutely phenomenal work (and from a fellow Adelaidean, at that).

A question: In the non-secret path, does Ash never become a skinchanger, since he doesn’t find Blane, or are they one and don’t realize what’s happening to them (since they start feeling out of it towards the end of the game)? I assume since Gabby lets them live she probably isn’t done with them.

Edit: one other question, maybe a bug I got the true ending twice, once where Harper survived, and one where they didn’t. If the one where she died it said that I could survive if I “horribly” chose to feed on others. In the one where she survived, it seemed to assume that I’d be feeding on people instead, saying I’d need to keep a steady supply of victims. I didn’t feed on anyone in either playthrough, so what caused that change?

Edit 2: I think I figured out the bug by code diving. the eating people change is triggered if you are satiated. In my second playthough I was, but because I had Harper paint me, which I don’t think should trigger that dialogue. Maybe this should be changed?

Hi all! I see that the availability on Steam was mentioned at the start but I don’t see any confirmation on the reason why the game isn’t available on Steam…

As Steam is my main (and frankly, only) platform, I ended up missing this release completely despite it having been my top anticipated release! And now I don’t get to play it on my platform of choice…

Is it possible still that it will be made available there? (Particularly since Steam’s handling of +18 games has greatly changed in recent years.)
