Why hello depression, my old friend… This was a great book, though it left me feeling blue :broken_heart: And it had quite an illuminati feel to it at the masquerade. It made me think of the creeps, who control our world… I love and hate it, and can’t wait for the next book. Great job

Ok Junko can kick my ass, my has a musclar fit physic, is sassy and has character, short messy brown hair, and knows how to mess around. Idk about you guys but thats my dream girl pictured into a fucking fictional character

Been waiting to work things out since we talked in book 2, this book is proof the author is willing to work in that direction at least, slowly :joy:

I’m pretty sure we will. If not, my headcannon will dictate it. Now we know there is a way to this place, my Ronin wouldn’t stop before he found another way back. Now that he renewed the promise to Jun, he won’t break it again.

Sorry for the vaguness, mobile gives me issue with the spoiler function

Haha, I feel the same way.
Replayed it twice already. Managed a 100% attunement playthrough for the first time of any book. Now leaving on last page and hoping for an update with save function.

Wish I had started with my Tosh playthrough though and not with Jun, cause I don’t know if I can go back…

Wow wow wow. Probably the best of the series so far though I miss the light hearted feel of book 1 cause this was just so intense. Have to go to bed now. Wow

Context. I need a lot of context.

But my god, this book is the best of the series. The darkest and most heartbreaking, yes, but also the best. Now what am i to do with my life with book 5 not out yet

As others have been saying, the protagonist isn’t “you”, but a pre-determined character. The author controls where the protagonist goes, not you.

Ok just going to say before I go there that I haven’t read book 3 or 4 of SOH so am not going to comment on what’s going on in there specifically, but I think some of this discussion is actually starting to get into a division at least in part between people who like blank slate characters, and those who also enjoy predefined characters.

Traditionally, most choicescript games have lent towards blank slate, but I feel there is definitely a place for predefined character stories as well. You can get a stronger narrative with predefined characters at the expense of freedom of choice, so it depends on what you want: Only self insert characters, or ones that are not necessarily “you”, but comes with a strong story line attached to them that you can ride along on. There’s nothing wrong with either type of storytelling, it just comes down to personal preference. (I personally like both kinds as long as they’re written well in a style I like.)

Interesting point and I largely agree. I think there is a bit of a middle ground and I think SoH may fall into that category. I catch myself talking about ‘my ronin’ instead of ‘my character’, when talking about SoH. Just an oddity I noticed for myself.

I was just thinking about this after reading your post, but I think narrative using “I” instead of “you” kinda makes it easier to accept, at least for me, that the character I’m playing here might be not exactly mine rather a mix between the authors and mine… Tho that can be said about all games here since pleasing everyone with giving all possible options the MC could do/say atm would mean like a 100 options for each choice and that’d be just too much, the choice options have to be limited or it’d take like a lifetime to write one of these games I guess?
Anyway for me the "I"s instead of the "you"s kinda make me feel like it’s a retelling from my ronin instead of me seeing things through her eyes if that makes sense.
