They are demons. We’ve seen what they were doing and it was no good.
I think Satsuma has his own agenda and living in a Viper nest he has to hier somethings to survive and to win. A lot of person are watching him, waiting for him to trip and make mistakes.
And these guys are using Basho démocratic movement and are being help by those démon.
I won’t défend Satsuma. Just… I don’t think he is the worst. He remind me of Basho in the end. He lied to us, is using us and is hiding things, but is doing it for what he think is the right thing to do, like Basho.
We understand that the demons are bad, I am talking about what the narrative is hinting at. I mentioned this earlier but Satsuma reminds me sort of Griffith from Berserk.
Also I do think what Tosh did to you in book 3 was a Tosh decision, I don’t think Satsuma would have agreed to that as it made the Ronin less functional, I think Tosh did that because they still are afraid the Ronin is a threat to Satsuma.
However I do think Satsuma only sees the Ronin as a tool, as one would a literal sword; there is where he reminds me of Griffith and there is where I don’t trust him.
I’m a patreon user so I have access to the novel. He really worried about the ronin’s safety.
Satsuma isn’t the cold hearted bastard you seem to hope he is.
He is clever. Very clever. And of course he is using you. He is the emperor after all.
Now, understand that the guy is living in a viper nest. He can’t afford to be a naïve nice guy.
So yes, he is a good person but he is also the emperor and must think of Hyuga first.
He is using you to do his dirty work in secret, but that’s hardly new. After all, you are a criminal and a ancient killer. Tosh is a ninja, and ninja are spy and killer from the shadow (poison, kill during sleeping…) . They aren’t honorable warrior with magical power. They never were.
You weren’t sent on an official mission. After all, this IS a hit on 6 target.
Last but not least. All of his targets wanted to kill him ans take his throne. He is doing it to protect himself. He may have a hiden agenda but that’s not yours to discuss. You have been sent as a sword, a weapon, to do a dirty job and you knew it. It was what you were doing before meeting Masashi.
Satsuma is worried about your safety. Now, if we became a real threat, yes I think he will dispose of us, but as a last recours. You demain loyal to him or stay neutral, he will respect his part of the deal.
Now, even if he is a good person, hé can still become the final ennemy.
Eothas in pillar of etenity 2 is a god on the good side, but he is still doing a big mistake and IS killing innocent people for what he think is the right thing to do (free the lands from the gods influence, even him, but it’s way to late to do that and it will do more harm than good to do that now).
Maruki from Persona 5 is hardly a Bad and selfish person. Now is he doing a big mistake with his newfound power to reshape reality ? Yes. And even if he is doing it for humanity and sacrifying his own life and happiness to help the world, he is doing a Big mistake and must be stopped…
Both aren’t trying to kill you and wanted you to help them or let them do their work because it was in your sake, in their head.
I don’t think you understand my comparison, if you are familiar with Berserk you would know Griffith wasn’t really a bad guy either. He just used people to further his goals, he cared for them in his own way and was seen as a hero. That is how I see Satsuma. You can see already see Satsuma was concerned for the Ronin, but I think he sees the Ronin as a tool. I think Satsuma cares about the ronin the same way the ronin cares about their sword.
I said Tosh saw the Ronin as a threat to Satsuma and purposfully lied to the Ronin in book 3. I don’t think Satsuma would have condoned that, as he wants the Ronin to fulfill the purpose he gave them.
I never read Berserk, si I just assumes (wrongly ut seem).
Yeah, I don’t know what to think if Tosh. I don’t think he saw the ronin as a threat anymore but… It’s like we are a god(ess) to him. A prophet(ess) and he want to both worship and make thé ronin his ideal.
Why can’t we have a nice normal romance? Between the old girlfriend/boyfriend yandere character and the worshipper ninja… The kid seem to be the l’ESS weird romance…
Well I think Tosh’s affection for you is less than genuine, and the set up will break the Ronin’s heart.
Tosh really screwed the Ronin in book 3, I was surprised the ronin didn’t put it together but maybe they don’t remember the conversation they had with Tosh in book 2.
Other than that, hé is “normal”. Too Bad for him the ronin saw him as a little brother (or sister).
But, it’s not over for him I think.
I wonder what is the gap age between the two. I know the autor left it to our own discrétion, but I can’t imagin the ronin to bé over thirty. To be honest, I imagin her around 22 years old, 27 maximum.
I know she sound older sometimes but in her line of work, being over 18 is older enough.
I could believe pushing 30, late 20’s. The age gap must be pretty significant, condidering if you try to pose as siblings in the first game the ronin noted the age gap as pretty significant. So I believe the ronin is definitely older than masa’s older siblings.
If I remember right from the first book, the Ronin is definitely older, but not so much older that it’s implausible for them to be siblings. So perhaps about 10 years or less.
I think it was that it wasn’t uncommon for heads of well to do families to have children with big age gaps. I am pretty sure the Ronin makes note that they are much older than the kid.
Well, I mean, 10 years is fairly significant. I imagine it is something meant to be left up to individual minds about what age the Ronin and everyone is since nothing is stated directly.
I’m excited to see how the Ronin’s reunion with ‘Momoko’ will play out, how they’ll react to the Silent Lady and how this might impact the relationship they developed with Junko.
The Ronin’s journey in Book 4 was probably their most intense and visceral thus far, we saw them reach their absolute lowest point from the trauma before overcoming it to achieve their most hard-won triumph yet. And right when its over with the emotional pain from the hellish ordeal still strong the Ronin is immediately thrust into a new high stakes complication with little-to-no breather.
It’ll be a wonder if they’re not seriously exhausted both mentally and physically at the start of Book 5 given all they’ve been through. I’m also curious if we might see notable changes to their character going forward - the Ronin has lost and regained the Jigoku with greater insight, reforged their bond with Junko, taken up a more proactive stance against evil, earned the forgiveness of their childhood friends (and Ige) and even made peace with Gensai.
So much of their past darkness has been confronted and redeemed, so when reunited with the original companions would the Ronin come off as somewhat of a different person?
I think that maybe they’ll pursue the remaining 2 demons independent of their obligation to the Emperor, out of their own sense of responsibility.
