@MichaelMaxwell Idk if you mentioned it before so I’m gonna ask what’s the deal with the golden bat and its supernatural dust ability

I love this game. It’s definitely the best one I’ve played in terms of gameplay mechanics and action scenes. The characters are vivid and the story is quite interesting, allowing a lot of freedom. The ginormous amount of options and alternatives is stunning!

Due to its strength as a game it does lack a little in the roleplaying department, though, in my opinion:

  • The MC’s personality isn’t being tracked, the only thing matters are the choices you make, so I felt like a blank slate a lot.
  • Sometimes interactions with other characters, especially/mostly your team, seemed like a game rather than a genuine conversation - as in “Push button A to get result B”. This stands out the most to me when you first get to interact with everyone before choosing your team; you can ask everyone the same questions and readily get detailed answers.

This is a personal preference though and does little to subtract from the game’s visual descriptions and unique gameplay.

All in all, a wonderful game. I’m very much hooked right now and can’t wait for the next one!

Side note: I haven’t played the latest patch, but there are a few errors near the end.

I think the one that sticks out the most is when Michael busts you as a cop/informant and you’re in a romance with Gabriel. Your love interest steps between you and Michael, but “You also see Gabriel behind Michael, quickly pulling out his Browning Hi-Power”. Might need to make an exception there

Raquel’s Romance Route is some of the cutest shit I’ve ever seen without having any words exchanged really.

Seriously, I’m pretty sure you made my dead heart start beating reading through it.

I’m not entirely positive how I got it since I restarted like 30 times, but I think the check for RO route is to have at least 60% with someone on the bar by the end of Chapter 3 and then invite them inside when they show up no?

I am blown away by the amount of effort put into this game, it’s long as hell but always stays consistently good. The characters, writing, and plot are all 10x better than most things coming out. But that being said this is not an interactive novel, it is a book and because of this it soured the experience for me. I still enjoyed it but the fact that your character has 0 input on the plot and if they were completely removed nothing would change annoyed the hell out of me. Even in the conversations and action scenes your character literally does almost nothing, all the cool stuff is saved for Gabriel or someone else to do and for a person like myself that reads these for a power fantasy it made it extremely boring. Again I want to say that the book is still amazing, but making the reader’s character sit on the sidelines during every important event while the real main character, Gabriel, kills a thousand people makes all the decisions kinda ruined it. The first few parts and the heist scenes were absolutely amazing because the reader’s character actually did stuff and made impactful decisions, it got to the point that I began hating Gabriel because I knew when he was around I would have to read through 20 pages of my character standing around doing nothing. Sorry to be that one asshole but I had to give my two cents. Great game and I admire the hell out of the authors, just not for me.

I really love this game and can’t get enough of it. To be honest, I don’t really dig this whole personality tracking thing. In my opinion, it creates what I call an alzheimer effect. In some of those games, a character can lose some of their skill or personality just by making one or two wrong choices, Making it look like they are forgetting that just a choice or two ago, they were an excellent warrior for example. In this game, your skill truly belongs to you and so does your personality. It also allows for more freedom And is in my opinion a welcome realistic element. When I play this game, I truly feel Like I’m the actual character. Not to say that I don’t like those games at all. This is just a welcome change for a change.

@MichaelMaxwell What are the rings you get during the jewelry heist used for if you keep them? Is it something for the RO?

I might have been a bit too overzealous in saying that it’s rough – aside from the line breaks there’s not much that’s really inconveniencing. I will say that it would be nice if you didn’t have to flick through to the stats to see what attachments you have on while at GGG, and that in the stats page it says what type of attachments they are at first glance.

e.g. instead of low profile suppressor it says MUZZLE: low profile suppressor.

Nothing major, just a quality of life thing. “Reset take” at the end of heists would also be appreciated, but not necessary.

In addition, I don’t suppose you’ve considered making it possible to buy the Diemaco C7A2 for Hayne and the plasma cutter for Anna at a later date? The plasma cutter especially, as I believe it actually has an impact on time to cut.

As an aside, the mask customisation is a marked improvement over the old public beta/demo. I didn’t realise the plague doctor mask was a thing so I typed-in a plague doctor mask (which is what I always run with in Payday 2). If possible, blocking masks that are sold at GGG might be useful. Also, does painting a weapon actually work? I can’t recall it ever showing up in-game, unlike naming weapons.

When it comes to the text, I will concur that at times it can be more game-like than not during conversations. Additionally, I have noticed that “smirk” comes up quite a lot, and that many sentences start with “And”.

It’s that grounding that makes Reville (or at least, being on the opposite side to Gabriel) more interesting, I think. I got the impression that the PC had Gabriel for a deuteragonist or, if you were uncharitable, the PC was just a supporting protagonist to Gabriel being the primary protagonist. Being out of Gabriel’s “sphere of influence”, to a degree, feels like a glimpse of freedom. It would be bad I think, if in the future FBI route Reville is built up to having Gabriel-levels of influence on the plot or having severe control over the Informant PC as Gabriel does.

I spotted some bugs where if Mouse is Avelyne, the wrong pronouns are used in chapter 1 part 2:

"You okay, Avelyne?" Give him a pat on the back.

Avelyne casually shows off his new mask.

Edit: Also in the VAMCorp Tower Raid, there is this typo after you shoot the SUV driver during the escape:

He crashes onto the asphaltm

All bugs have been forwarded to my co-author for a fix.

@ghost3337 Should be on both cases

You have to not be romancing anyone. To check that, go to your stats page. If you see anything that says “Romance Partner” it means you have started a romance with someone, and cannot romance anyone else.

For some characters, a simple flirt could cause you to start a romance. This is because the code being restricted to a narrative function. I’ll be sure to free this up in the next game so that you can still flirt, but not start any romances.

Hmm, that’s odd. The only way for you to get the romance with him, is through the same route you get that achievement. Either it’s a bug I can’t fix, or something has triggered the CheaterMC flag.

There two items in the game that are from an entirely different game. The Gold Coin, and the Golden Numerical Bat. They are basically there as an end-game piece and not meant to be taken seriously at all.

This was a personal choice, for me as a writer. I didn’t want to include any of the personality tracking for the same reason I didn’t want to add too much background and history to the MC. I had my own canon ideas about the origin story, but I wanted the players to develop your own characters with your own backstories first. My way or testing the waters.

Okay, I admit, I don’t really know how real life conversations work

Most of the actual conversations I wrote were just off the top of my head or referenced from a movie or another video game. This is most prominent in the hangout section, which can be seen as just an excuse for character exposition. I’ll try to do better in the next game.

Much thanks for the review! And I’m glad you enjoyed the game!

For Raquel, it’s 70%. to be able to invite her inside.

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the game!

I may have made a mistake when writing the outline for the game, and made the story revolve around the main trio rather than the MC. In my eyes, it was easier to write a story that’s already been set. But I realised now that it does subtract much of the freedom of the MC being an important individual in the story.

I tried to subjugate this by adding in hangouts, personal quests, and such. But even then, I could not help but realise the looming presence of Gabriel’s looming presence over the MC and their crew members…

Which is what i’ll be focusing on when it comes to the FBI route, so a good payback is in order.

Nah, I always love hearing reviews from people, but I love it even more when someone comes up and discusses the flaws in my creation. It helps me better to move forward knowing these things.

It’s always the little things that make up the big thing.

I’ll be sure to keep all of these in mind for updates and improvements for the next game.

As for the Diemaco C7A2 for Hayne and the plasma cutter for Anna, I can’t do anything about that due to the fact that it’s meant to be an upgrade for the 2nd heist, but halfway through writing the first heist, I realised that I wanted a bit of hangout before that.

I’ve sent most of the bugs over to my co-author for fixing. Most of the text errors I will fix myself.

You don’t really get the ring in the end. You can get the blue sapphire pendant. With the pendant, you can either give them to your RO, or keep it for yourself. Keep in mind that it will be more prominent in the second book

Um, it’s not my birthday?

It’s apparently my anniversary for joining the forums. (Also, is it just me? Or is posts from other threads made days ago showing up on this thread?)
