@noogai, I almost missed your comments. But I love those ideas. I’ve put a lot of ideas on paper when it comes to character stories. Love your idea though.
now that 13entrm mention it aren’t you gonna finish making that superhero an football game? you have so many isn’t it hard to focus on one of theme?
yes a satyr
@blackstar786 You know, for something to be a rip off, the thing it’s ripping off has to, you know, be available. And rip off more than a genre.
HEY YOU JUST STOLEN MY WORK I’M ALREADY CREATING A GAME BASED ON GREEK MYTHS ITS BETA VERSION IS GOING TO BE AT THE END OF MAY BUT I WOULD LOVE COMPETITION TO WORK AGAINST BUT JUST SO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR UP AGAINST LOOK AT MY INTRO
Why did i laugh at this?
But anyways i don’t think anyone meant to step on anyones toes here, but as you said healthy competition and all that may cause better games or a deep hatred between alxxxjames and blackstar.
I personally hope for better games.
Regarding demigods, I think having the player be one by default is probably your best choice. In Greek mythology being sired by a god did not mean you automatically had super powers or that you were rich and famous. Zeus father hundreds, if not thousands of bastards.
However, being a demigod gives the gods a reason to care about you and involve you in their afairs. A classic adventure hook is to have one of the gods be your parent, and another god, who is their rival or jealous lover make you their enemy.
So using the Heracles example, Zeus impregnated your mother. His wife, Hera is angry and jealous about this, and actively seeks to harm the player as a result.
“and all that may cause better games or a deep hatred between alxxxjames and blackstar.” Lols
but humans could also be loved by the gods, and heroes of Greek legend. Hector of Troy is easiest to come to mind. My point is i’d think it’d be interesting to play a legendary human showing up the gods
Besides, Greek mythology is very commonly used. I doubt a ripoff is possible when the source material is thousands of years old and has been appropriated for centuries.
Now that I’ve bothered to read this thread in detail (not so hot on Greek mythology at the moment), all I can say is that I will vomit all over my keyboard if I ever have to play a child of Zeus. That fucking shitstain can go die violently.
Like someone who raised this earlier, I am bothered by classical Greek settings interpreted through Hollywood morality but I really am not looking forward to a rapefest. There is a way to have an adventurous romp around mythic Greece without being Hercules and Xena, AND still avoid having rape in it. I hope you find that way and take it. Yes, I know you have not said anything about it but just in case.
And seriously now… Forcing Zeus to eat his own intestines being possible?
@ScarletGeisha Well if you take the common hollywood perspective of gods dying without worship, every second you dont worship zeus you are slowly killing him, forcing him to fade into nothingness… The little victories (:
And he’ll probably have to eat his own intestines or else he’d starve.
Cuz god (no pun inteded) know he isn’t getting a whole bunch of sacrifices from followers >:-)
Personally I’d prefer playing a child of Hades. That guy gets a constant bad rap in movies and tv shows since everyone insists on comparing him to the Christian devil.
Of course the greeks weren’t fond of him either, due to the whole god of the underworld rep, but hey someone had to do it. The rest of the gods were having orgy parties up in Olympus.
Still, since you were asking for examples of having a “darker” character branch, a child of Hades could still qualify without being over the top evil. (Save that for the children of Ares) The character would probably just be pretty ruthlessly pragmatic about handling things. You’d probably wouldn’t be well liked (Nobody wants an underworld spawn around, it’ll invite death!), but you’d definitely be feared.
Wait, why are we all hating on the swaggest god of all?
I mean just look at this: http://www.ancientsculpturegallery.com/images/198.jpg
Tor ain’t got shit on this mofo.
eventually will you be able as a demigod to go to the underworld or olympus
hell here i come
I don’t believe women were assasins at all in Greek times but that could be a job for them
Extending on what EndMaster said: IIRC Hades was actually one of the nicest gods in Greek mythology. His kidnapping of Persephone was less a story of rape and more of ‘shit went wrong for the poor god of death again.’ I also remember something about not every myth of his abduction of Persephone making it out to be a rape (something basically unheard of). Not to mention that on the very few occasions he was unfaithful, he normally wooed who he was after (as opposed to most gods who just raped whoever they felt like at the time).
Also, he was actually a nice dude when it came to the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. He was basically the only god that actually cheered a human on, and he gave Orpheus a fighting chance when he had no real real reason, need or even desire to. Orpheus was asking for something he had no right to (for Eurydice to come back from the land of the dead) and Hades already had come to love her music. And still he game Orpheus an easy task compared to what most gods would have gave him.
According to modern ethics, he was actually one of the nicest gods.

Double post…but yeah. Hades is pretty much a Greek Tragic Hero. Hera seems to the be the annoying one in mose Greek stories.
