I can’t stress how excited I am for this. Absolutely fantastic. I love you guys. Wow. Good god, I’m so happy. I love you guys so much.
Ah hell yeah a full on hunter game let’s go
Our for blood was pretty close but it’s cool to hear we’re going to have one fully set in that framework. Same for werewolf, lore is super interesting
Man, I’m so torn on both these entries.
I tend to love Marquis’s work (how do you not mention freaking Pon Para is that list, Jason, come on), but Night Road didn’t really click for me*, so I’m not sure about Book of Hungry Names.
On the other hand, I loved Datillo’s Out for Blood because you’re fighting uphill so much in it, so Beast of Glenkildove might be up my alley, but Cliffhanger didn’t click for me.
Too late to switch the authors of these, I wager?
*neither did Parliament of Knives, which is written by the also stellar Werewolves series dude, whose name I can’t recall - I think handing me all those vampire powers makes me feel entirely unthreatened by whatever the games threw at me
I think a lot of people in this thread don’t understand the process by which these games are written. CoG doesn’t hand out assignments to writers. They give writers the opportunity to pitch games, and then they decide together which pitches they want to take to contract; for these games, representatives from WoD would also have a say.
They can’t just give a Werewolf game to Jeffrey Dean; it would be Dean making the decision whether to pitch another WoD game, and his decision whether it was a werewolf game, another vampire game, or something else altogether. And no, they can’t switch the authors on games that are already under contract. First of all, with The Book of Hungry Names tentatively scheduled for release later this year, and both games having Steam pages with commissioned artwork, it’s safe to say they’re both quite far along in development. More importantly, though, changing authors wouldn’t be like telling someone stocking shelves that he’s needed at the register, it would mean taking a story that author conceived, developed, and nurtured away from him, and that’s not something they’re going to do.
If you like Pon Para, I think you’ll enjoy Book of Hungry Names. While there’s certainly a lot of gnarly ass kicking (you’re a werewolf, after all), and it is still the World of Darkness, which focuses on the struggle and drama inherent on being not-quite-human and living outside human society while still being attached to it, WoD Werewolf society is night-and-day different from WoD Vampire society, and I believe the game is focused around unravelling a huge mystery and building a pack (with varying degrees of ass kicking along the way). I know Kyle’s been super excited for it ever since he got the idea and is still writing away like a madman. More than that, not my place to say!
I think this game will compete with the new apocalypse Wereolves Apocalypse book to experience its lore.
I’m sure @JBento was just making a joke about their personal favorite games/authors
If so, I’m sorry. Although my comment wasn’t addressed to him exclusively, I’ll take it down if it comes across as too combative.
I… thought it was obvious I was joking in that part?
It does not. You’re fine.
Thank you. And it probably was obvious to anyone who isn’t me. I’m kinda dense sometimes.
I hope we get mage game at least.
As excited and happy I am about the WoD stories coming, I cant help but imagine what it’d be like if Paradox and CoG collaborated even more.
Imagine an IF set in Stellaris for example, where you play as a researcher who has to make first contact with the worm. What was shall be what shall be was.
Or one set in Cities Skylines where you play as a normal citizen trying to survive the antics of a crazy mayor with godmode who keeps sending disasters at you. The possibilities are near endless.
probably will never happen, but I can dream…
It sucks that all of these games are set in 5th edition, tough.
I mean, I’m super looking forward to everything. Kyle Marquis writing a Werewolf the Apocalypse game? Take my money lol. A Hunter game where you play as a hunter who knows what they’re doing? I’m onboard.
The one thing that kind of disappoints me, and its more of a WoD thing than a CoG thing, is that we’ll probably never get a Hunter game with imbued since they’re kinda… not a thing in v5
I forgot to mention how both covers are stunning. I never played Hunter, but I had played Werewolf, and the art is very similar to some illustrations on the rulebook, so I presume they are official WoD artists?
So, does anyone know the cover artists’ names? I’d like to see more of their work
George Cotronis (@ravenkult on Twitter) has only done WOD work through us; he also did I, Cyborg; Martian Job; Sins of the Sires; and Rent-a-Vice. (Hey, he has a knack for getting games nominated for Nebulas…) His style was the closest we had to the Hunter image style.
Rabid Black Dog (@rabid_black_dog on Twitter) did work for the Werewolf 5e core book.
So that’s the secret!
Seriously, I should check out more of Cotronis’s work. I love the art for Sins of the Sires - it’s both beautiful and disturbing, exactly like the game itself, and I had it as wallpaper on my phone for several months last year.
Btw, does anyone know how to watch/listen to/whatever the actual Nebula award announcements?
Oh, I thought that Amy Wilkins made the Sin of the Sires cover.
He made it even better, in my opinion.
Thank you for the information, I was scrolling through Cotronis’ Instagram and he has some amazing works. Now I will search for Rabid Black Dog (this is such a good name for an artist working on Werewolf things )
Amy Wilkins did the character portraits within the game itself.
You can watch the livestream for the Nebulas.
