Mind Blind (01/31 Demo Update. A Story Where You Are NOT The Chosen One!)

What did I just read? NO, is Nick gonna die? You take take both of my parents (If I have the choice my character would never forgive them), and even the RO, but leave Nick alone… and Sally.

Hmmm I don’t know, I feel Nick means well but he’s too chipper and happy go lucky for my MC. Like no Nick nothing is fine, the concept of privacy doesn’t exist for me and I don’t need you reminding me that every morning and stop calling me Button, you make feel like a broken dog from a shelter. But my MC is half dead on the inside so he never voices or thinks this in Nick’s range he just ok to vibe with whatever they want and just say yes so he can move on with his day.

Uhm is it weird that my reaction when reading the update was to say “Fuck off, Author,” and then laugh out loud because of the absurdity of it (y’all know the feeling when you’re laughing humorlessly while your gut is punched? Yeah that sort of laugh). Good job, Author.

I’m Jamie, thank you very much.

Or that Button lost their mind…

I’m really curious to see how the accusations against Button are going to shake out. Couldn’t we just offer to let the investigator see into our head to prove we didn’t do it (on purpose anyway)? Or will the meddling make it look like it was our idea?

I could see some Buttons refusing to do that straight up, but even more accepting Buttons might be reasonably concerned that it wouldn’t be clear that they’d been controlled vs. murderous.

I think that wouldn’t help. The counter-argument people like Satan would use will go something like this;

“Well they aren’t responsible this time, but can you really guarantee that they won’t be responsible in the future?”

Plus, I’m not exactly comfortable letting some random strangers poke around inside my head. I think no one will be comfortable about it.

Button could easily be put under 24/7 surveillance (with the permission of John and Hope if that’s going to be something on it’s own.)

With a situation like this, they’re sure to get a lot more involved with what’s happening with Button. I’m just personally ruling out any poking and prodding, because despite my Button being resentful, they’d only allow Nicky boy to do that.

Also, I feel like if my Button ever got interrogated/questioned for this, they’d humor everyone out of spite and play the bad guy.

You know what would amuse me grandly ?

That you’re all wrong and nobody accuses Button or Button being innocent :joy:

I definitely get that point of view, but I hope there’s a specifically addressed reason for why Button doesn’t offer that or agree to it. For my Button, she’d be absolutely desperate to prove that Nick getting hurt was outside her control and damn any follow on consequences. She would have the security risk argument after her name is cleared!

You know that the so-called investigator is going to be Nick-Nack himself right? Being the most powerful telepath in the biz and all. So, I don’t think MC is going to resist it all that much because it’d be very similar to the checkup Nick does daily.

That’s highly unlikely because they’d rather blame it all on the helpless sheep rather than believe that the building was compromised, or worse, that there’s a traitor among them. :man_shrugging:

Just for lines similar to this, I sincerely hope there’s more Satan in store for players. It’s nice to have NPCs of the disagreeable type. It helps that ol’ Clarence–what we’ve seen of him so far–has a legitimate point.

…And on another note, the most recent Tumblr update for this game’s progress has me curious and afraid on where this is all leading. Ping pong balls no longer sound perfectly innocent.

What gets me about the scene’s transition from victory/loss in the challenge, to “help find Valero’s keychain”… Is that there is no transition.

So far as I could tell, we were still sorta in the same room as Sally whether we won, or lost, or at least were possibly near enough for her “Something’s wrong with Button!” radar to go off, but there wasn’t really a break that indicated she left the area before the tastefully intentional weird blank before “Keychain… Why am I looking for that again?”, and “Bathroom!”

So if that’s a continuity thing you need to refine a bit, @wildelight, then this is the one thing that sticks out to me after a couple rereads. It being better highlighted by this recent update really helped me realize this. Especially when I take Sally’s potential attitude into account; win or lose–unless she’s hurt, which is a legitimate reason not to–she’d want to at least chat with Button after, right? So the gap before we know she’s definitely left the area may need a teeny bit of touching up.

Oh, I totally agree! (Thank you for being kind, but I’m well aware it needs a lot of tweaking, not just a tiny bit :purple_heart:)

I actually referred directly to that bit on tumblr earlier as something to clean up in the second draft, especially after reading people confused by when Sally exited. The problem with Chapter Two’s end is that, by the time the assignment won/lost the test, I was just . . . done with Chapter 2

There was so much exposition and branching pathways. Which is important, because now assignments/missions can just hand you the sheet and you’re off to the races. But writing everything was a nightmare. Usually I fill transitions out before posting the demo live, but the thought of having to write 12 different exits for Sally so shortly after made me go “noooope uh-uh can’t do it I caaaan’t”. Chapter 2’s second half traumatized me ngl. It’s my ugly redheaded stepchild of a chapter.

Also, I was really, really, really excited to write Chapter 3.

Precogs can’t help

Unless we negate the ability of precogs to see any persons/events future that have come Into contact with us, then yes they could help. I am assuming a lot of people were in the building and quite a few people died. That would be a fairly significant event in almost anyone’s future. I understand a precog can’t see our future or our involvement, but there are a whole lot of other people there.
