Hehe, for many ROs, this may be the last date you ever have with them… or the start of something new
Wait, so is the CS version of the game going to be discontinued? I’m kind of confused by the porting to twine bit
Ah it’s still a hobby project for now, honestly I’m just seeing where the art can be taken and decide from there! but the text based game will be kept up to date, and my main focus, writing-wise!
Your this work is even better then college tennis as I have played both
The grandfather that the MC didn’t get on with is he the paternal grandfather or maternal grandfather?
I’m pretty sure it’s their Maternal grandpa, though I might be wrong
Ah I swear I read it as the maternal grandpa had passed away quite young and used to take them on trips to Malaysia. Will have to read it again more closely.
Merry Crisis, everyone!

Thank you for being an absolutely wonderful, lovely community. I’m so grateful to everyone who has played/read the IF, left a comment or message, given me super detailed, amazing beta-testing feedback or all the other ways you’ve supported the IF.
Happy holidays! <3
Amazing festive graphics specially created for Merry Crisis and the holiday season by Crows.
Next, I wanted to share some progress on the text-based IF and the visual novel assets!
Text-based IF:
Writing of the new chapter (where Nat arrives in Singapore and when one has a final date with Shay/Qiu before needing to commit in the following chapter) is complete, and has been sent off to beta-testers!
Release dates:
- Ko-fi supporters, non-beta-tested version - 28 Dec
- Ko-fi supporters, beta-tested version - 1 Jan
- Public release - 7 Jan
Visual novel:
Progress for writing and art has been steady! I have a team of super amazing, talented artists Crows, Naz, Silvia, and Fie! Some amazing characters and backgrounds have been created so far! Here’s a sneak preview
Shout-out also to Cat (for the wonderful character portraits), and Aspen (for helping with the coding). Y’all are awesome.
Wow that’s really a great art, where do you planning to release the visual novel? Steam or itch. io?
Yay glad you think so.
Itch.io seems the easiest, and thats definitely where the demo will be. Might release the final version of the game to steam if i can figure out how!
Good luck then on your project Allie, can’t wait to see the final product
Thank you so much @Knoez :)) you guys’s support mean a lot to me!
Chapter 5
Nat arrives in Singapore!! Things come to a head!
- Attend Nat’s conference panel discussion, then head for lunch along the river
- Make dumplings for dinner with Qiu (and sleepover at their place)
- Watch a Malay horror movie and have dinner with Shay (and sleepover)
- Go for a bike ride
or hang out at the winter funfair with Nat
(then head to their hotel room for the night)
- Commit to your RO of choice + some rejections (though the full suite of consequences for your actions will come over the next 2 days)
Word count: Around 50-60k with code depending on how ruthless my eventual editing is.
This update will also come with some edits to the previous chapters, which may or may not improve the continuity between routes, but I’m working on getting through all the necessary edits by 1 Jan!
P.S. with this chapter, we are now 6/8 chapters in (counting the prologue and epilogue)!
Release dates:
- Non beta tested: 28 Dec (~10pm GMT-5)
- Beta tested: 1 Jan same time
- Public: 8 Jan same time
no words, just QIUUUUUU
LMFAO the whole non-commit route to Qiu, after you tell them the whole “But we’ve broken up,” only to have Nat appear in Singapore the very next day. Watch them cross paths and do the whole up-down-lookie-see judgments of…Oh it’s that one…
So is it coming out today? Sorry just a tad confused with the three different dates
can’t wait to torture myself with more yearning by chasing after Qiu. (or is the yearning over??!)
Yeah, the torture is mostly over at this point
Hey all!!
Chapter 5 is now live and ready-to-play for ko-fi supporters!
Please note that you’ll have to play from the start so that you get the right set of variables, or you’ll end up with a very buggy playthrough!!
Looking forward to hear your thoughts!
First I’d like to say, Shay’s story reached out to me and affected me strongly enough to take action in real life. As a South Korean queer, for my whole life I never felt like I belonged, and never entertained a future where I stayed in Korea. And playing a queer mc who moved out to NewYork for freedom, stifled by the cishetnormative Singaporian society, them having heard that from Shay shifted something in their world view, and at the same time, mine as well. A few weeks after reading this I started involving myself in Korean queer politics, and met fellow Korean trans people irl for the first time. I love this game for the authentic representation of an asian culture from an asian perspective (especially for its additional queer insight), with all its complicated relationships to family and society.
I also Loved the queer romance past with Qiu, and their promise to win us back. I was most attracted to Qiu up till a certain point.
But, Qiu’s path seems to have lost the tension too soon? The reintroduction of Qiu was so strong and emotionally evocative. An attractive and exciting promise that you’re the one who is going to be pursued, with effort put into for once. But I feel like there’s something lacking in the following scenes, in particular the market scene if you didn’t opt to join them in the sushi lunch scene. Maybe the market scene just isn’t meant to be played without having defused some of the tension in the sushi lunch scene. Even so, the amount of casual laughing together feels out of place. I also feel like the queer issues that was a huge part of past queer Qiu romance has just, completely disappeared without ever being addressed. Qiu being fine with public displays of queer romance should at least be commented on internally by MC, no??
Reading back on the comments, I see I’m not the only person who felt that incongruity. Hope you consider this feedback.
I play with female MC and male Qiu but even then, i did feel like the whole Qiu romance felt too easy and the conflicts were resolved too quickly. There weren’t really any discussions about the past and everything they went through which imo should before any commitment happens. I also felt like MC was the one initiating basically every interaction and putting in the most effort into their new relationship. After the class reunion where Qiu seemed more assertive and determined to win MC back and make up for lost time, i feel like they took a huge step back in the following scenes and MC did “everything”. So yeah i can only imagine in an actual queer relationship.
Don’t get me wrong, i still really love Qiu’s route but i feel like smth is missing and some steps were skipped in the romance.
