I always wonder what would her imperial majesty looks like? As seemingly her character is being mentioned as the heir of imperial earths reign throughout the war. Do you have a reference for her character? I just imagine her to be Haman karn in some cases considering Hawkins and Aznable
She seems very young and surrounded by ministers. Maybe she’s more like Mineva Zabi?
I wanted the Empress’ brief appearance to pose sort of an unanswered question, because in that one moment, you can pretty clearly see that despite the fact that she is supposed to be the Head of State and mistress of the Empire, she’s really just a child who’s been born into a position which she may not even be able to fully comprehend yet.
It’s another layer of ambiguity as to who the “bad guys” really are.
Wait a second, there’s a whole potential other pilot we never hear about?
Did you have plans to include them in the game initially, like as a rival/partner?
You do hear about him, albeit briefly.
He’s just not the focus of the story. As talented an ace as you might be, there’s a whole war on, and you’re just one pilot in one battlegroup.
Only noticing this now, after many times of earning 80 or more kills… But is the “Take That, Manfred” achievement a shoutout to Ace Attorney?
It is a reference to Manfred von Richthofen, who had eighty confirmed kills when he was shot down in 1918.
Out of curiosity, will there ever be a sequel to Mecha Ace? Or was it always intended to be a one-shot story?
From what i recall in the past the author said it was to be a standalone game.
It was always intended to be a one-shot, and the endings are so divergent that writing a direct sequel that would apply to all of them would be more or less impossible.
That being said, I do have ideas for prequels and side-stories which I never really got around to doing.
Hawkins’ epilogues where they return to player’s side (1, 2 and 3) mainly use hawkins_ally instead of a romance check or don’t use hawkins_rom at all (Damocles ending), which leads to conversations between them and player having certain romantic flair, and if not romantic, then they definitely are a lot more affectionate and can be almost read as a player’s romantic pair. Was it a deliberate design choice or something that just came to mind during writing?
Main examples that come to mind are co-joined quarters and them asking the player to come back in one piece in Damocles Initiative ending (epilogue2), them gripping player’s shoulder and saying they now have something to look forward to in Captain ending (epilogue4) and them sounding much softer than usual when they ask the player to stay alive, and, in Warrior check, stating that they won’t be able to endure the monotony of peace without the player character in Seven-Year War ending (epilogue1).
This was on purpose. A lot of close friendships can often seem to have romantic overtones to outside perspectives even when they aren’t romantic. And likewise, a lot of close friendships can include a acknowledged romantic attraction from one party. Hawkins might be attracted to the MC, they might be wanting to keep their options open for after the war, or they might just be close because, obviously, all of their previous friends and acquaintances see them as a traitor to the Empress, so they don’t exactly have a lot of other close connections except for the one person they see as an equal.
Is that why Hawkins’ own romance variable doesn’t come to play in the epilogue, even if they were romanced? It didn’t seem the case with other love interests - they’ve used their romance variables in most of them. Was it to keep matters with Hawkins more ambiguous in their romance route or was it done for other purposes?
Sort of, yeah.
Mind you, this was all done ten years ago for a project that was intended (at the time) to be a one-shot, so I’m not sure how much of my own reasoning I remember.
No matter the case defintly one of my favorites
Could I get the specifics for that? I haven’t found how to also kill myself correctly, yet.
I ended up getting it after not properly reassuring Asadi during her pep-talk and having a low piloting stat. After that, just let the CoDEC fleet be unguarded during the retreat- just have your lance split off from you and take out the flagship. That kills off your flight officer, deck chief and whole lance.
After that, when you get captured, give up everything but lie after your rescue and say you gave up nothing. When the battle starts, you’ll all die because the Empire has control of your mecha.
Any new work u have been working on ?
