& does anyone know how to stop the imperial missles from firing?
Ahhh, apparently you can put chrome://extensions into the address bar and it allows you to see the CoG apps, including the update number next to it. I know it auto updates when you open it but just knowing the number means I know the update has been applied.
@MarvelousMatty What I did was
-Reason change"I just want to fight"
- I got Hawkin say I like you from after just awoke from capture (good indicator that u are on the right track)
-Agree on Hawkin’s ideals(whatever it was) at the prison cell
-Initiate any dialogue that sounds like u want to be with Hawkin “you and me”, “someone by my side” (Just don’t skip Hawkin related dialogue not hard to find but missable)
@Iggles I had the same amount of rep didn’t work and I had a presence of 3 not good enough…
@Azul I just did another playthrough and I’m convinced that our Ace needs a presence or will of 4 to advance the relationship. For will, when you tell Hawkins that you’re looking for someone to fight with it said I lost a battle of wills with her (I had a will of 3) and yea seems like you need super high Rep (80s or higher I’m guessing but I have no idea how to get into the 80s) or a presence of 4 to convince her to stay. Problem is that it’s nearly impossible to beat her all 3 times to gain the approval boost that beating her gives without putting the initial 2 points in piloting or perception. My only possible though is to pass on the Lionheart to keep your armature that has the improvisation so you can get a 4 in two stats
In your other thread I recall you saying that it was possible to betray the CoDEC. But all I’ve been able to do is give in to the torture whilst captured, was that as far as the betrayal went?
I would’ve very much preferred to actually be able to side with Hawkins at the end or at least use the Lightbearer on the CoDEC fleet instead.
@Crossover
You can side with Hawkins at the end if you’ve made the right choices. You can’t use Lightbearer on the CoDEC fleet, but you *can* intimidate both fleets into backing down with it.
Cataphrak, I assume you’re also the author behind Sabres of Infinity? If so, then I’m placing you as an author at the top along with JimD – authors who are so good that I will automatically buy their games, with no reviews or information provided.
I haven’t beaten Mecha Ace yet, but I’m pretty far into it, and it’s hitting all the marks: a long story; well-written characters; interesting and meaningful choices.
Mecha Ace is a refreshing change of pace from all the other recent releases, and I’m really grateful you made this, Cataphrak. I already bought it once via the Choice of Games website for my browser, and I’m thinking I’m going to buy it a second time for my iPad, so I have the app as well. And here’s the thing: I generally hate mecha stuff, yet Mecha Ace is good enough to overcome any prejudice I have.
Anyway, I’m really happy with this release, and I’m looking forward to more of your works.
@Cataphrak Kind of random but not that you can be spoilery, what was your favorite Mecha kill during the game? Mine was when you are defending what remains of the CoDEC main fleet and you just punch into a mech’s cockpit to get the squishies after your sword arm is cut off.
I meant side with Hawkins as in, my character joins the imperials rather than Hawkins just helping out, also, isn’t a romance required for that as well?
Hi all,
Spoilers ahead!
I completed my first play through and love it. While I wonder if I could’ve gotten Hawkins to romance with me, I chose to fight her instead. Had I talked to her during her betrayal, is that an option for romance? I tried to persuade her to join me, but she thought I’d be a sellout and didn’t take that risk. I ultimately spared her.
There is one question that puzzled me, how can I get the achievement to help Hawkins destroy the Lightbearer? I wanted to do that, but I had to beat her and win control of it, where I then destroyed the imperial fleet.
I also wonder how to romance Weaver. It seemed like the only time to bring it up is on Crown Station where you can ask about her family, what she thinks of her briefing and her suspicions and things.
I also got a few hidden achievements which is nice. I’m looking forward to hopefully at least romancing one person and getting the 21 or so achievements I have yet to get.
I enjoyed this a lot, much more than most of the other fighting-based games. (: A few thoughts and bugs:
After I escaped with Hawkins, the game seems to intimate that I should be surprised to see her at the briefing. I think I would have been surprised NOT to see her.
I found it a bit odd that the MC’s reputation didn’t go up after not breaking under torture and successfully escaping.
Diplomacy seems to go very high very fast. My MC’s was over 104% already during the capture sequence. Also, oddly, once it goes over a hundred the bar starts filling up with red again.
Chatting to Weaver about Asadi just before the briefing, ‘Chances are you won’t be seeing Him again’. That capital just looks odd to me.
‘Weaver looks tired, the bags under $[weaversex3] eyes and the weary tone of her voice’
EDIT: Two things I particularly liked were the way the in-game saves were set up, so that my three deaths at the very end didn’t ‘punish’ me per se or catapult me back to stage 1, and the fact that NPC’s opinion of the MC varied with the MC’s overall personality and actions, not just what the MC said to that particular person. I felt that the relationships were much more meaningful because of that.

@CrossOver
There’s no way to *join* the Imperials (because they’ll shoot you for treason in the first place), but you can side with Hawkins in the final encounter. You actually don’t need a romance for that.
@Orinks
Hawkins is a romance option, and you can help him’her destroy Lightbearer if you’ve made the right choices.
And yes, Weaver is also a romance option.
There was a report of not being able to access achievements before? Yeah, I’m on Chrome and I can’t access it either. Just clicking on it doesn’t do anything. Using 1.0.4 BTW.
@cataphrak when I have to choose what to do at the last mission to either defend the Caliburn or send asadin, that part, every option I die on, like I can’t get past that & that’s with agreeing on everything with Hawkins/:
@MarvelousMatty
Is it because you told the Imperial interrogator your command codes, and then didn’t have them changed when you escaped?
Now that it’s been patched, I’ve played through a couple of times and everything about it is great. Characters. Story. Choices. Everything.
Okay, I just beat Mecha Ace, in follow up to my previous comment.
Having beaten this particular CoG, I only have one complaint.
Spoilers spoilers.
In the battle where the Lightbringer was first used, I ordered my lance (Viper-lance) to defend our fleet while I went to disable the Lightbringer. I know there was the mention that splitting up the lance would practically guarantee some casualties. Okay.
So I go knock out the Lightbringer and get captured. From the very start of being captured, I’m worried about what happened to my lance. When I ask Hawkins what happened, he says that the fleet was defended due to the lance. But what happened to my people?!?! I don’t know.
When I get back to CoDEC, I immediately tried getting as much info from people as possible. What happened to my lance? What happened? I choose to talk to the captain in order to ask what happened. No mention. The only mention I get is later on, when the narrative says the lance call-signs are the same but all the faces are new. Also, on my stats screen, it says “KIA” and for Asadi, it says “MIA”. At first, I assumed it just said that because I wasn’t informed as to what happened to them, so it was just defaulting to KIA. But I guess they all died without me finding out how. And Asadi’s “MIA”; what does that even mean?! I know what MIA means, but what happened that every other lance mate is KIA and Asadi is “MIA”? I have no idea, although I tried to find out.
So I found that frustrating. But beyond that, Mecha Ace is rock solid and easily one of the best CoGs on this site.
A few bugs:
-
episode3 line 949, text states “Again and again, your opponent blocks each blow until suddenly, as you swing again, the Vallier Custom’s hand lashes out, grasping at your Picton’s arm.”
For any mech that achieves swordhit 2, not just Picton -
I can’t seem to find a way to get cap_question 3 (ie, to fulfil interlude2 line 861 *if cap_question >=3) - making honourable impossible to get.
Enjoying it so far. Finished once and am now using the scenes to aid my next playthrough.
@Scelous
If your lance gets wiped out in Episode 7, you should be able to ask anyone other than the Captain about what happened, and they’ll tell you. I think I’ll add the ability to ask the Captain about them with the next update.
@Avenger
fixed for the next update.
Still failing on the Hawkin Romance if anyone able to gain more than 70 rep please post what u picked, it probably solve the problem. Looked into the files quick glimpse there is a possible good ending romance(I think it was didn’t want to spoil it), so its not a forever unrequited romance. I was able to side with Hawkin at Lightbringer well that ending wasn’t what I had imagine but does make sense.
Also anyone able to romance Asadi? I have no idea where to even began I just reach enough friendship points but nothing indicating potential romance opportunity.
