A quick update: I was originally unsatisfied with the original ending of interlude one - it seems to be evolving into its own chapter, might I add. So I’ve been rewriting the end of it. I’m no where near done rewriting it, but I am all ready a million times more satisfied with it now then I was before.
♪~ ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ ← my expression upon realizing I need to go back and find all the previous coding bits I need to change now that I’ve scrapped the idea that two minor NPCs will no longer be gender flippable. Welp. All in a day’s work~
Ctrl+F does wonders!
Would you believe me if I said I was too lazy to do that?
I live by that command
editing is tedious, editing something 6x longer than you’ve ever wrote before is super tedious lol. i have so much respect for anyone who’s ever finished something longer than 50k words
I need to stop adding characters, 20-something characters is already too much! Keeping track of that many stats won’t be really pleasant either…
May writing to-do list:
- Get localized anti-inflammatory cream.
- Get a wrist brace.
- Get a reusable ice pack.
- Test dictation software - currently using https://speechnotes.co/.
- Possibly physiotherapy?
- Limit phone and screen time - currently I’m failing this one rather badly.
Good luck, get well soon!
After another long hiatus, I’m walking back into ChoiceScript. I have a basic idea kernel: going into space, starting a nice little village on a new planet, living there for a while, and then… something happens. Not sure what the central conflict is yet. I’ve been seriously jonesing for enjoying peaceful life in space, and talking to everyone instead of beating them up. Maybe a bit of Stardew Valley in space.
I honestly needed this reminder.
I wonder how Stardew Valley would work out as a text-based game, feel like you do need something to happen for it not to get too boring too quick.
Maybe space will do the trick though.
Edit: Just saw your other post in the interest check thread, should have responded there. I would say (lot of) small scale problems would be better suited if you want to focus on village building, I feel a big thing would sooner take over the story.
So, some writing update since we’re nearly at the middle of the month.
After the huge writing slump I had last month, I somehow got a boost without any idea where it came from. But definitely glad for it. Last month was just terrible
There’s a high chance I could push an update at the end of May, although I try not to pressure myself too hard, because I just tend to self-destruct whenever I do that. Pretty satisfied with what I’ve got so far! Had to do a lot of edits, but yeah, part of the writing life.
And congratulations to all the CHOMP 2021 participants! Looking forward to read the entries once I’m free.
My May to do is making a code skeleton for Royal Affairs Chapter 4 and then write as much as I can of the draft. So far I’ve got several pages of handwritten notebook notes and not anything down on my file. But I’m hoping to get there! I can’t believe how fast the first half of May has gone, though…
Me too! Usually I just turn on sticky keys to get through that
I’m grateful for the good writing month in April, because May will likely not be a good one
Work has thrown a wrench in plans, as it usually does…
I feel this in the depth of my soul. I’ve had to prioritize getting a job over hobby projects, and I feel so cruddy about it ![]()
Good luck, and I hope you get over the hump!
Same here… It would be so much better to sit and write for a couple of days in a row instead of an hour every other day. It takes me longer to figure out what I was up to then actually writing and the small notes are piling up. Maybe in a week I can find some time though so May is not yet over!
Hope you all manage to get some writing done this month!
This month I want to really nail down my outline. It’s my least favorite part and I’m usually more of a broad strokes/figuring it out as I go then going back and forth kind of person. And that does work for me most of the time, but I also often find myself following my story string to the same knot in the middle because of it and I’m trying to avoid that this time. I feel good about what I’ve done so far this month though.
I also want to sort out my mechanics. They’re looking… acceptable atm, but I know they can be better.
On top of that, if I get significant writing done, great, but I’m not going to let myself focus on it or I’ll get carried away with it and end up with the exact issue I’m trying to avoid.
