Just as soon as you’ve cast off those burdensome EU shackles that were holding you back, eh? ![]()
Edit, yeah @FairyGodfeather, @Havenstone maybe add the last few posts here to the old Brexit topic?

Well, it’s more like “dragging you all down with us”, but close enough.
And I get the feeling that we’ve gone slightly off topic (sorry @Baudelaire_Welch
).
Aw, I guess that means I’ve done my job well. I’m a little surprised that people here on the thread quite like Len when he only appears in the demo for, hmm, a couple pages. Honestly thought people would roll their eyes at the concept of the edgelordiest, angstiest, most pissed-off epitome of trashy vampire novels, and that Asterius would be more popular, but hey, I’m glad people like him.
No harm done with the off topic and wee politicking.
First year in the Law degree we had a subject where pretty much all we did was say our opinion about a classic controversial topic and then defend/argue for the opposite side. The logic behind being that this way we have to think harder and make an effort + there is a high chance of having to defend an asshole client in the future but we are still bount to help them, like a doctor.
Still the teacher was an unfair jerk. He never entered the discussion when his opinion was defended but argued actively with the opposite side. And yes, he was conservative and homophobic AF but I would honestly criticize him anyways for the double standard alone.
Well, I am comparing a fleshed out character with a sparkly first impression, so I would probably choose Asterius right now, but who’s to say what the future may bring?
Funny how that works, in our system rhetoric is pretty much the last thing we get taught and happens near the end of law school, not in the final year, unless you choose to join a debate team and fill out the optional subjects with courses (such as comparative law, American moot-court is way more fun than our own, btw) that include it.
I’m well-acquainted with the logic behind it, it’s just that particular teacher was one of the very few who knew both me and my mom and I couldn’t manipulate him to ever get the side I wanted in any case. Which means that among-other things, I’ve also had to argue against gay marriage. ![]()
Unlike yours, he was one of our nicest teachers however, it’s just that his personal knowledge of me and my mom made it impossible for me to manipulate him or game the system in his classes. ![]()
Ugh, don’t I know it…these past few years.
I see what you did there.
Len doesn’t sparkle, though. That’s one vampire stereotype I couldn’t bear to put in!
Go the Libertarian route. Ban all marriage!
I would have and I did sort of try that, arguing that marriage ought to be a purely religious term, with a rich and vibrant tradition that has been a major contributor, for good or ill in shaping society. And as a religious term it was up to the Church (in my case the Catholic one) to decide what is and isn’t “marriage”, but that the state could easily give the legal effects of marriage another term. It was way down on the list though, basically the last “hail Mary”.
I romanced Sebastian, my dude
actually… im more interested with Asterius
coz i dunno much about Len
(just like you said : “he only appears in the demo for, hmm, a couple pages.”)
That may be true, but, he’s really intresting and a big mystery so that’s probably why people like him, I know that’s why I like him anyway.
I can be very dark when I don’t intend to be. The media I pay attention too tends to be very gritty since people just love writing soul-wrenching stories, and sadly… those also happen to be some of the best written things I can find which KILLS ME a little every time I read them. Hearing that, I may actually try to get every ending.
On the topic of romance, I think my favourite RO may just be Asterius. They’re such a dork. I’m also glad you just let it flow. That, in my opinion, is when writing is at its best. Also, holy hell, I KNOW right?! Video games need to realise that some of us girls aren’t the tender maidens that we wear as avatars in otome games! Also, the argument that interactivity is the problem is dumb. If games are; [quote=“idonotlikeusernames, post:215, topic:18862”]
“sex-simulators” that will destroy “real” relationships and the very fabric of society
[/quote]
…then what about all the needlessly violent and stupid video games we already have that DON’T focus on romance and sexual themes? Not to mention, plenty of games HAVE that. Hell, my partner really likes the Witcher series which has PLENTY of sexual scenes and he is INCREDIBLY social and… well, [Gestures to myself], he has a goddamn girlfriend! Also, since I’ve already brought it up, the only time I actually act like an otome heroine is if my partner says something so ridiculously sweet I fear I may contract diabetes or my teeth will rot. Sure, it’s one example, but those dumbasses that have no clue what they’re talking about have an argument that I feel is invalid. Wooo! You got me started!
Seriously, though, I am a terribly lewd closet pervert. Why can’t some otome, it doesn’t have to be all of them, games realise that we aren’t necessarily paragons of purity. Hell, SHAKESPEARE is racier than plenty of otome games that I’ve played (and I have played a LOT of them) and Shakespeare it taught in SCHOOLS. Sorry. I’ll stop.
YOU GUYS GOT TO TAKE CREATIVE WRITING AS ITS OWN SUBJECT?! That’s so not fair! We barely touched on it this year. It was just TACKED ON at the end of the first term! I’m so salty! I hope you get better. I know that it’s like not being able to do something you love, especially creating. I know it isn’t the same, but I get like that when I have to hand in my sketchbook for marking. You rule!
…I’m gonna go play the demo again.
“Violence is good and sex is bad”. In the USA, where let’s face it most AAA titles are made, or at least primarily marketed the conservative “family values” groups seem be much more hung-up on sex and one of the liberal, against violence in games, parent-groups I encountered in my research back then was also explicitly against state censorship, which means they can’t have it both ways and are likely left to monitor their own children for violent behaviour, rather than noisily demanding that their political representative “fix” this, or at least raise a good stink about it.
@idonotlikeusernames
[Sighs at this facet of the human race.] Yes, violence, which we’ve since labelled as undignified and bad isn’t nearly as bad as the only natural way to continue the human race… or life in general. Also, nice not-username.
@Baudelaire_Welch
…ooooooooh! So when I invoke seduction tactics, I’m a disappointment! But when YOU DO IT [Pointing dramatically at Asterius with Bob, The Ultimate Top Hat] it’s FIIIIIIINE!!! [Blatantly made out with Len when he tackled her, then shamelessly referred to him as a hot mess…]
Oh the Len romance is all well and good for people who want them but the true question is… can we romance the top hat?
…holy frijoles, you beautiful genius… [Takes off Bob and places it on a pedastal, kneeling before him with a hand extended towards him and the other over her heart for dramatic flare.] Bob, my sweet Top Hat of Ultimateness, will you do me the honour of being my third love interest?
Well, obviously. But as that’s the true (canon/golden) ending, we have to have gone through both the Len and the Asterius paths first. We may even have to get the bad endings (or at least one of them) and the joke ending (where we end up romancing Pikachu).
The top hat is already bonded to you forever, I see no reason for a romance. It loves you more than life itself.
It does actually play a part in some of the romance scenes, though.
