Lux: City of Secrets - Book 3 of The Evertree Saga by Thom Baylay

I’ve been wondering if I should reformat this and bring it over here. The post was deleted and that makes it harder to find if you had not commented on there.

Ah, to hell with it. Have a new and slightly improved guide to Dear Diary achievement!

Though there are only 7 entries, the game has kindly provided multiple chances to find most of them. This list is arranged chronologically, but I’ll mark down which encounter provides which entry.

(spoilers underneath all these)

In Chapter 2
  1. (Entry 1) You’ll find something floating around in the wind after Ori and you got chased out of the post office. This is automatically given to you as long as you passed a simple stat check.
  2. (Entry 3) Choose to end your investigations on time and you’ll get another entry while relaxing at the fountain.
In Chapter 3
  1. (Entry 3) If you had brought over someone from Evertree, you can ask your ally if they had managed to find out about anything at the beginning of this chapter.
  2. (Entry 6) Choose to talk to the healer while you’re in the town hall. When he is distracted by your ally, sneak in and visit the victims. Feel free to do your investigations and whatnot, but make sure to end things early by picking “I’ll leave now. I don’t want to get caught.” Your ally will make it obvious when you’re about to be found out.
In Chapter 4

(Entry 4) Just one encounter this time! Search the surrounding area of the post office and you’ll find a bird with a piece of paper in its beak. Scare it off successfully–if you’re summoning an elemental, make sure to go with air–for this page.

In Chapter 5

(Entry 3) Some prerequisites: You have to have met Lolli before and also be on friendly terms with her, or else you can’t even get this entry.

After running away from the Hooded Lantern (leaving Ori for dead in the meantime–say goodbye to all that goodwill), you’ll come across a cat who will lead you to the Beth House. Lolli will recognise you and allow you to hide with the Beths. She will also give you another piece of the diary.

In Chapter 6
  1. (Entry 6) If you had already found at least one piece of the diary before, you can ask Mayor Grow about it by showing it to him. He will give you this one if you had not found it before.
  2. (Entry 4) On your way to your second location, you’ll find a seagull’s nest with a piece of paper. Steal it for another entry.
  3. (Entry 2) Visit the blacksmith’s house. You’ll find Chrysanthemum Grow walking around doing faceless people things. She’ll be clenching a diary entry in her hand. When given the chance, say that she is re-enacting her wedding to get it.
In Chapter 8
  1. (Entry 5) Do NOT visit Jewel Farthing’s house first. Go visit another location and your ally–as long as you didn’t have a fallout with them in Chapter 7–will give you this piece when you come back. This is the only place where you can get entry 5; it’s very very easily missable.
  2. (Entry 2) Is Sebastion still alive? Good! You can visit the bookshop and ask him for any ideas about the person responsible. He’ll give you this specific diary entry if you missed the chance to get it earlier.
  3. (Entry 3) If you had seen Mrs Beth or Lolli before, you can visit the Beth family. The place will be abandoned except for a child doing a reenactment of the ending to The Blair Witch Project. Pry this entry from his clenched hand and escape asap.
  4. (Entry 7) When at Jewel’s house, choose to visit the “landing at the top of the central stairs”. You’ll find her bedroom where you can examine a book for the final piece of the diary.
