Hahaha I doubt the next game will explain. This is like…book 10 vibes
Thanks for sharing your choices! I love to hear how other people see the characters and what they pick up on that maybe I didn’t even intend. It’s exciting when they stop just being “my” characters in my head and become something bigger.
For the record, in case anyone does take me seriously, I haven’t got an official planned length for the Saga. I just know the story I want to tell so we’ll see how many books it ends up being
From experience I know I can power write Evertree much more easily so when I catch a Kitsune wave, I ride it! But don’t worry, Lux is on schedule! There’s still a lot to do but the main story is done along with several RO paths, some of the landlord missions, a really random side mission and a bunch of job stuff. I know I say this every time, but this game is gonna be huge. It will be completed!!! Can’t wait for you all to get to explore it!
I’m back on Lux this month and think I’ll probably stay on it for a while as I really want to submit it in 2024. This month I completed another Dandy/Daisy scene and some little scenes that tie the bigger events together. So not lots to report other than confirmation that I’m still writing hard and a vague suggestion that 2024 submission to HG is the plan.
Now for the announcement:
As of November 2nd, I will begin writing full-time!!!
For the past 6 years I’ve been working a 4-day week so that I can write every Friday, but now, I’ve decided I want to give writing my full attention. My current plan is to dedicate November/December to this project and see how it goes, and then depending on finances, motivation and general productivity, I’ll re-assess in Jan '24.
What does this mean? Well, it means I’ll have a ton more time for writing Lux and might actually get it finished way sooner than I originally planned ! This is the priority. However, it also means I can pay more attention to social media and posting updates, and it also that I might look into Patreon/Ko-fi options. I’ve always avoided those as they would require additional admin time which I’d rather use writing, but if there would be interest in supporting me that way, I’ll have time now Will post more details on that as I figure it out this month.
Anyway, that’s all from me for September! As always, thank you everyone for your support and patience!
Thanks for sharing that idea! It’s prompted me to think a lot about this so…long reply
I probably wouldn’t write additional scenes for Patreon content, mostly because if I’m going to write a scene, there are tons that I need to do for the actual book first! Also, I’m pretty staunchly in favour of death of the author - namely, if it’s not in the book, it’s not canon. So if I made additional scenes, they’d be like fanfiction of my own work, and I wouldn’t want anyone taking them as actual content for the series. I’m not opposed to doing alternative viewpoint minis, but they would have to be included in an official volume in some way, I think. (Community College Hero 2.5 was a great example of how to add stuff like that while maintaining the series integrity. Maybe something like that in the future…)
I still need to think about the sort of content I’d make for Patreon, but I’d want it to be something I could create as a break in between writing, rather than more writing. Right now, I’m thinking ‘behind the scenes’ info, more detailed updates on progress, maybe opportunities for Q&As or polls to vote for which character I should write about each week. Could also make quizzes, offer competitions, or share more of the music and art that inspire the stories and characters, things like that.
I’d be very curious to hear other thoughts and ideas for what people would enjoy! I’m not ruling anything out yet
Absolutely understandable! Could you also share some coding tips if possible? I’ve been code diving your games and DAMN how in the world do you keep all that organized XD. That’s exactly what I like about Evertree. SO much replayability and so many paths to get one single thing done!
Some authors like to explain further the lore of their games, like extra info and more world building, like the author of Fallen Hero does.
Some other authors like to make Q&As but the questions are answered by the characters directly.
You could also write short snippets about alternate universes where a character’s (or several characters’) situation is different than in the story. Some alternate universes I’ve read are hilarious it doesn’t have to be angsty.
That’s all I can think of at the moment
Add body strengthening magic there, my character at the end of the third book already has both combat lines above 90% (Prowess and Physical) and both magic lines close to 70% (Spellcasting and Will). For a character who summons a cataclysmic elemental formed purely from mana, I think body strengthening magic would be very simple.
October update:
I’ve finished three more sections, including the Dandy/Daisy story. Also made good progress on another landlord mystery.
I’m also now finally writing full time! I’ll post more about that soon, but for now, just wanted to thank people for their suggestions and ideas for Ko-fi/Patreon rewards. I won’t be able to do them all, but it’s really helped me to think about what I could potentially achieve. Exciting times!
@BlackJimmy88 There is the option to have relations outside (or alongside) the specific RO you’ve chosen in certain situations, and I’m not opposed to including something more concrete in the series at some point, but a true poly route is not currently an option.
Fair enough. Thanks for responding. I had a feeling it was something like that based on what I’d managed to put together reading through the various threads for this series, but this Redditor seemed pretty confident, so figured I’d double check.
Thank so much for your kind words everyone! This is to let you all know that I now have a Ko-fi page
I’ve included some membership tiers with what I hope will be some interesting rewards and bonuses:
Saga Supporter - The base tier. You’ll get access to the weekly updates posted on Ko-fi (instead of monthly on other socials) or if you just want to support the series regularly, this is the way to do it!
Evertree Guest - Join this tier to get the weekly updates on progress, as well as bonus content, behind the scenes and teaser screenshots of upcoming games.
Sordwin Sailor - Everything available to Guests, plus the freedom to DM questions to me. Each week I’ll choose a few to answer as part of the weekly content. There may occasionally be additional content exclusive to this tier and higher.
Luxican Elite - This is the highest tier, and gets you everything in the Sordwin Sailor tier, plus a social shout-out, and a special thanks credit in the actual game - Lux, City of Secrets! Depending how we do, there may be other bonuses for this tier as the project continues!
I’m super excited at this opportunity to share more of my work and of the process behind the series for those who are interested. To everyone who donates, thank you! It means so much and allows me to keep dedicating time to the thing I love!
Updates will be every Friday (starting on the 17th!) Hope to see some of you there!
It’s usually not a good idea to add saves until the sequel is nearly ready for release, since they might not know at this point exactly what information needs to be included in the save.
The jobs were the focus this month. I’ve done around 6 scenes for those including finishing the scholar/mountebank path. The Marble Hill mystery is mostly complete, and things continue to move pretty steadily.
Ko-fi update:
Thanks everyone who has supported me on Ko-fi! I’m so happy my stories are worth so much to so many people! If you haven’t had a chance yet, please do check it out (link at the top of the thread). Members of any tier will get weekly updates on writing progress, and then higher tiers get bonus content, Q&As and sneak previews.
