Lux: City of Lies - Book 4 of The Evertree Saga by Thom Baylay

YESSSSSS!!!:heart::heart: Can’t wait to help Jen out ☆☆☆

Sorry, I can’t answer questions about future plans for the series  Thank you for the question though. I’ll say that for now 7 is enough ROs to be working with! I’d rather do fewer ROs with lots of depth than multiple surface level ROs.

Jen is the one who’s almost done

Hahaha yup! You get it.

I must say that 7 ROs is a large number and yet you somehow managed to give each of them something unforgettable.

Can I have a little hint about D’s bet, please ?

Sorry, no hints. I will say I definitely haven’t forgotten about it though

It’s that time again! June update!

So much this month! I can’t quite believe how productive I’ve been :stuck_out_tongue:

I have finished the Wallside landlord mystery completely. That’s done.
I have also finished not one, but four romances storylines! Ruby, Winter, O and K are now finished (as far as individual romance paths go. There’s still a lot of other scenes to write where they might appear, but I’m taking this as a win).

I think July will be heavily focused on the Evertree Inn ROs and finishing off their individual mysteries. L, D and Gunther haven’t been as involved in the mysteries of Lux so it’s time to change that and get back to some good ol’ investigating.

Anyway, that’s all. Thanks again to everyone for your continued support!

Soon, Gunther my beloved…

Indeed. I’m eagerly looking forward to Gunther’s route, for more reasons than one (the mystery; the drama; the obliviousness; my character’s lack of clue about what she’d do with him even if she “caught” him…).

Yes, more super cute half elf involvement please.

Thanks for continuing with the monthly updates!

July Update:
Not much for Lux this time, I’m afraid. Just ticking along doing little edits and getting what’s already written into better shape. I switched focus to Kitsune for July after it stalled out in May and I’m very pleased with how it’s progressing. Will get back to Lux soon but definitely finding it much easier to be productive when I have two very different projects to switch between.

One thing I did have fun with this month on Lux is rediscovering my love of Two Steps from Hell and assigning each of the ROs an epic theme to listen to when I want to be inspired

Now they each have two songs? Do we get to guess these ones too?

Haha, at this point they all have multiple playlists :stuck_out_tongue:
But absolutely! If you’re interested -

Disclaimer: These are songs that right now make me think of the character but like…in ten books time when they’re fully evolved and epic. Not saying we’ll ever get to that stage :stuck_out_tongue: but that’s the vibe I’m going for. As always - no guarantee this ends up being the plan or in any way indicative of future stories of even necessarily current ones. It’s just my process putting music to characters

So one for each RO (all by the amazing Two Steps from Hell)

Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on soundtracks for different NPCs (and PCs too  )

Plan on listening them later and give my best guesses for all of them, but judging from the titles only, surely Norwegian Pirate must be for Ruby, since she is actually a pirate?

Oh, Two Steps From Hell are the best! Ivan Torrent is great for epic writing music, as well.

I’m going to guess All Is Hell That Ends Well is the song for the horrible pronoun-free monarch of my heart, Hayden Winter. Firstly because the title seems like a fairly Winter-ish sentiment, and secondly because of the music itself - I love how those menacing electronic distortions punch into the final minute.

Epic level characters!! My mage is going to rock those level 9 spells… eventually.

  • “Undying Love” - I’m going with L. They’re such a sweetie and this sounds like music for an Epic Sweetie.
  • “All Is Hell That Ends Well” - definitely Winter vibes!
  • “Away With Your Fairies” - I would sure like this to be D someday, once they’ve worked out their… issues. It’s so bouncy and outgoing and awesome. Probably my favorite of the tracks.
  • “Amethyst Prince” - This one is very cool and interesting, so it must be… I have no idea. K maybe?
  • “Breathe” - my brain is assigning this one to O. I don’t know what it’s thinking.

I can see “Norwegian Pirate” for Ruby, which leaves “Enchantress” for Gunther, which… hmm. Could work. But most likely I’m just completely wrong again.

And since it was incautiously asked, here are some theme songs for my PCs!

Lyssa, human crusader/priest (aka :sparkles: paladin :sparkles:) - “Man of La Mancha”
Dahlia, human minstrel - “Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries”
Krysoberyl, dwarven duelist - “Hello” (she also has… issues…)
Ormenel, elven scholar - “The Memory of Trees”
Glimmer, brownie (brownian?) scout - “Appalachian Spring”; basically the whole thing, but this movement works as a summary

Can you please add a save sytem, I dont want to restart everytime there is update

Okay, these are my answers (but actually I can see and agree with a lot of other guesses! It’s awesome to see all the ways people hear different things and pick up on different characteristics of the ROs.)

My answers
  • Enchantress - K
  • Amethyst Prince - D
  • Away with Your Fairies - L
  • Norwegian Pirate - R (Not a double bluff :stuck_out_tongue: )
  • All’s Hell that Ends Well - W
  • Breathe - G
  • Undying Love - O (I feel like this one will surprise the most (maybe not?) but I like the intensity of it, the fact that it’s in theory meant to be positive but at the same time kinda sad and complicated.)

@Tarlonniel Thanks for sharing your PC themes

@Leon_Kincoln If you’re referring to the save system at the end of Lux City of Secrets, I’m afraid that’s not a decision I get to make. It will be added by Hosted Games when City of Lies hits the production queue.

“Undying Love”.

O’s theme.

Okay, I’m about dead of curiosity here, is the game out yet??!

Edit: And since you also asked about our thoughts on songs for NPCs: D, Gunther, K*, L**, O.

Some explanatory notes

* Probably a strange pick, but K’s #1 attribute in my eyes is not allure (that’s #2); it’s danger. A much more subtle kind of danger than Winter’s, more psychological than physical. I’m probably way off base, but oh well.

** For some reason, Lamuel walked into my imagination looking like a pre-pirate Westley from The Princess Bride (my Lamuel save is thus labeled “farmboy”). Maybe it’s due to the sort of fairy-tale nature of the romance, I dunno.
