Kingdom: Apocalypse (80k WIP) | Released March 21 2026

Kingdom: Apocalypse is a low-fantasy story about survival, healing from trauma, and the ways community makes those things possible.

It’s almost time for the first grand tournament at Seabreeze Castle, Seneschal! Prepare the feast, ignore the warning signs, and pray everything still goes as planned…

When disaster inevitably strikes, and the tournament’s transported to a land of blackened sun, can you rally the survivors together? Create a new, more egalitarian society in the aftermath, or attempt to re-establish the feudal hierarchy of the old world.

You may need to choose quickly, for people are beginning to hear whispers in the dark…

This is the first update, posted March 21, 2026.

Romance Options

“Cass” (Cassian/Cassandra) Vilun

Your childhood best friend, if you grew up in a hamlet. Where other children grew up collecting bugs and sticks, Cass collected books. Books about medicine. Almanacs, treatises, textbooks, manuals, anything they could get their hands on. You, Cass and your sibling Kelsi were a team, the monarchs of the forest. You all knew Cass was going places.

The death of your sibling hit them as hard as it hit you. It left them more determined than ever to find a way to use their talent for healing for good.

Despite the horrors they’ve seen in their time as a healer, Cass’ spirit remains light. And they remain determined, more so than ever, to be there for you when you need them the most.

Mira Galloway

It’s really easy to stay on Mira’s good side. You just have to obey her every instruction without question. And as the daughter of the Duke, she can get away with telling you to do whatever she wants.

She’s yet to meet anyone that can match her prowess in combat. Any who might’ve challenged her all ran into ‘unfortunate’ training accidents.

Why would anyone want to tangle with someone this acerbic? Maybe you like being ordered around. Or maybe, just maybe, you’re willing to put up with the bullshit and bluster long enough to see what’s real underneath.

Ayla Liulfr

Your childhood best friend, if you grew up in your family’s castle. Squired to one of your father’s knights, she’s been the terror of the castle, and stuck on you like glue since the day she moved in. No one was safe from her loud, rambunctious behavior, especially those that dared to harm you in any way.

Fiercely protective, an expert fighter, you haven’t seen Ayla in many years. They never found her body. Maybe she’s still out there, somewhere. But if that’s true, why didn’t she find you? What kind of horrors must she have experienced, if they kept her from you?

Erin/Erwin Galloway

Er/w/in is the type of kind, well-spoken and perceptive child that most lords and ladies would hope their heir would be. So why are they never seen in court? Perhaps it has something to do with their condition, the one that has them frequently seen with a cane, and often unseen for long stretches of time.

Would that, then, also explain why no one has seen Duke Galloway and his eldest child in the same room in years? What kinds of secrets must they be holding onto about the function, or dysfunction, in their family? And what are they always writing in that little notebook of theirs?

???

There may be another option. If you have the spirit, if you have a song in your heart, perhaps you’ll have the opportunity to engage the interest of a talented young woman who knows how to make everyone feel like they’re the most important person in the room.

Is her interest lasting, or fleeting? Whichever you want to be true, that’s what she’ll have you believe, right until the moment she decides to move on.

If you can earn her attention, and then her trust, she may end up being the greatest companion, and ally, you’ve ever had.

The description is interesting but I will wait for a bit to try it

So only male players lose an RO? Bit biased since women can date anyone, but I’ll give it a read right quick.

Edit: Feels a bit stiff with choice so far. Chose the peasant start since Ayla would be a non-character for me as a male MC apparently, but there’s a lot of moments where I would’ve liked to have a more neutral stance or reaction. Mira is interesting, though I don’t think I’d be shaking just following orders- Maybe some personality stats that could tilt flavor text/descriptions would be nice.

This one was fun, I’m interested to see where it goes next. Mira romance looking promising. Noticed that the section where your castle name is picked has a note visible that probably wasn’t intended for public view (something like ‘choose castle name’).

Thank you for pointing that out! I was beginning work on a custom input for your castle name instead of basing it off of the crest design, and forgot to tag it as unfinished before moving on. I’ll get that fixed up.

Played through it, it’s pretty good I’m interested to see more of it. Definitely a WIP I’ll come back to. I think that the Mira storyline is going to be really cool as the relationship develops

Intriguing start! I’m curious to see where this goes. Mira does seem like an interesting character. Looking forward to getting to know her more along with the rest of the characters.

I also think it would be nice to have a little more flavor text or responses to cater to different personalities.

I agree, a few other people have mentioned something similar. I’ll keep that in mind going forward! Any changes to this first portion of the game outside of bugfixes likely won’t happen until at least the next major update is out, but the next update should be smaller in size than this one was (famous last words). I’m working on making a tumblr and possibly other sites to update my progress as I go.

Yes, just some miscellaneous bug fixes and spelling errors.

There are some pronoun and choice issues where you might pick one thing, but then the story acts like you made a different choice, but barring some of those ‘early draft’ issues I actually found the experience pretty enjoyable. The pacing was nice, I liked the choices I got to make for my character and my character had enough personality himself that it didn’t feel like a blank shell.

I like where your focus is at with the writing on what’s important to flavor up a bit and what can kinda just get mentioned in passing. I think that really helped with the pacing and didn’t have my brain tune out like it might if somebody was taking 5,000 words to describe a tree cough cough I think we all know who I’m talking about.

I enjoyed the choices, like in the fight with Mira my fighter based MC got to show his stuff, but also got to tactfully decide to end the match in a draw rather than outright beating her, and the little touch of telling us that she realized we held back was just chefs kiss.

This is definitely a story that I’m looking forwards to coming back and seeing more of!

cool that we get two pretty distinct lifepaths. always like it when backstories matter

it is a bit jarring to swap back and forth between the old lives and your current seneschal life tho, maybe make the transitions a bit smoother and add a bit more background as to how we got there instead of just a quick meeting with harrison

You do realize that the scene with Mira is a kink scene…….right?

Yes- but just because I enjoy being degraded and bossed around doesn’t mean I’m shaking like a leaf from it.

none hair with left beef

that’s a good catch, i didn’t think about those values not being initiated if your hair’s buzzed! I may add something about hair growing over the course of the story later but I’ll change that dialogue to account for it in the meantime.

I just played through the demo and I really liked it! The two backstories for the MC are both really interesting and I like how they both MC’s feel like different people, at least for me. And the different skills are very fun and interesting too! I enjoyed pairing a former noble MC skilled in intrigue and I loved seeing all the extra content for it, and then playing though the other background and getting all the answers that were previously just hinted at in the other play through. And lastly, Ayla! I love female knights and I love her! I’m weak for her and her scheming. This story is really interesting, and I’d love to see where it goes!

Quite an enjoyable read so far. Solid story building and character choices, I’m excited to see where this goes.
