Kidnapped! A Royal Birthday–Escape your captors…endure your rescuers!

We’re proud to announce that Kidnapped! A Royal Birthday, the latest in our popular “Choice of Games” line of multiple-choice interactive-fiction games, is now available for Steam, Android, and on iOS in the “Choice of Games” app.

It’s 25% off until August 27th!

Escape your captors…and endure your rescuers, but don’t be late to the ball! When you are kidnapped, you must take charge of your rescue, and reclaim your rightful throne.

Kidnapped! A Royal Birthday is a 158,000-word interactive comedy by Charles Battersby, where your choices control the story. It’s entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Conspirators have imprisoned you in a tower, and are plotting to usurp your throne. And it’s your birthday! Take command of the inept but well-intended crew sent to rescue you from your tower–a brazen knight, a snarky amazon, a cursed enchantress, and a humble peasant. Work together to escape your captors, outwitting your foes to make it back to the castle and regain your power as royal Heir.

But first: fight the three-headed chimera, the two-eyed biclops, and a horde of insatiable gnomes! (They’re surprisingly dangerous after a few drinks.) Wield swords, magic, or fight with your wits and grace. If all else fails, pummel your enemies with a chamberpot tied to a stick.

• Play as male, female, or nonbinary, gay, straight, bisexual, or asexual
• Act like a damsel in distress (or an imperiled person) and let your rescuers do the work, or grab a sword and fight your own battles.
• Unravel the conspiracy behind your abduction and thwart your scheming siblings.
• Side with the aristocrats, or join a peasant rebellion.
• Gain stature to prove that you are the one true Heir.
• Harness fairy magic to bewilder and defeat your foes!
• Disguise yourself as an Elder Vampire, stare down a giant, and take a nap in a glass coffin!
• Find love with any of your rescuers…or marry a goblin. (You know you’re curious.)
• Bring peace to the kingdom, or revel in the chaos of civil war.

We hope you enjoy playing Kidnapped! A Royal Birthday. We encourage you to tell your friends about it, and recommend the game on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and other sites. Don’t forget: our initial download rate determines our ranking on the App Store. The more times you download in the first week, the better our games will rank.

P.S.: FLASHBACK SALE! A Midsummer Night’s Choice is also 40% off until August 27th!

Bought it as soon as I got the CoG omnibus notification.

oh and shout out to the author for letting my male MC wear a lavish gown and glass slippers to his coronation BTW :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: the first few chapters i played earlier this week were great and the whole thing has such a great comedic tone to it while still keeping the pace up.

Does anyone know what the stats mean? I’m a bit confused by them.

@wolf666 From what I got from the story
Distress is like Damsel in Distress,
Independent is like can take care ourselves,
Blue Blood is like behaving like a Royal Brat (like the brother in this story),
Sans Culotte is like siding more with the low class side,
Traditionalist is like supporting old fashioned rules and stuff,
Rebellious is like going for new and non-traditional stuff…

The Ball and Adventure says itself…

Brilliant loved the game. Had two different endings especially on the first playthrough when my MC said fuck it and walked away. Great story shame about the lack of one on one with the ROs but otherwise brilliant

Well, my princess Isabella performed magnificently from beginning to end as a proper, traditional, aristocratic princess and damsel in distress, winning the loyalty of all sides and assuming her rightful place on the throne, having her happily ever after with Broderick, quite traditional with the knight in shining armor.

Hm, it would have been preferable to have both Edward and Leticia confined in a gilded cage, as they were probably equally guilty, but given how hard it is to balance the two, it will have to be the one in Leticia. It was difficult to decide whether it should be imprisonment, exile, or the gilded cage, but Isabella does still care for both of her younger siblings, treacherous as they both are, so the gilded cage it is for Leticia, the better to keep an eye on her. Besides, there were many other factions in the conspiracy that were manipulating both siblings to their own ends, so the siblings are not entirely guilty, and Isabella would like to think that they would not have gone so far as killing their parents.

I enjoyed this overall, especially the dungeon escape part and the various shenanigans that we ran into there. I also liked all four of the rescuers more or less equally, and thought they did a good job of being sort of silly and caricaturish while still being legitimately competent and endearing. I think this is the only game I’ve played where I both liked all of the main characters/ROs a lot, and where I liked them all about evenly, which I think is a pretty big feat.

That said, I managed to completely botch the ending, and I died before I could really get any answers as to the conspiracies and stuff, so I’m left a bit frustrated and debating if I want to give it another go around. Since people brought stats up earlier, does anyone know how Stature works? I suspect my attempt at a peaceful ending went south for me because I wound up with very little of that, but I’m not entirely sure why (or if that guess is even correct).

I think this game could really benefit from a checkpoint system or a save system. The abrupt death at the end kind of killed my interest in ever replaying.

Ooh, Thanks for that…

WoW… I like that there are few clashing type of choices…
This story worth few replays…

I wasn’t interested in the throne in the beginning but the siblings betrayel pissed me off and i took the throne because they are pathetic excuse of a family , still kind of bummed that we could actually only severely punish one of them.

Eh want me to spoil it a bit for you?

Bravo! Delightfully witty and the characters are wonderfully diverse. It’s also excellently paced. Needs an option of puplic spanking at the end tho(for the royal brats)
