Keeper of Day and Night (Update Post 1932)

Can we buy the celestial blade in the second book?

Oh, sorry. Just wanted to know which characters possessed unknown abilities. But I guess the probability of someone figuring out what that ability is would be higher. I’m curious to see what’ll be revealed in the future.

But when it becomes official, will you update the ROs’ “known abilities-list? Or will it be too spoilery for players who’ve only played the first game?

I got pretty bad vibes from him. When MC talked about the finals Theron gave Leon the side-eye and that’s when I realized he’s one of those “back in my days things were much better”-type of person.

Aw, I really liked Mirabelle. Totally not because we’re both vietnamese and share the same surname. She seemed genuinely sweet and did her best to make Leon warm up to her. I guess Leon has attachment issues because when MC asked why he didn’t like her he said “she’ll be gone in a week” which makes me think that his dad has had many previous romantic relationships that didn’t last very long?

SAME HERE! Briseis please let me pet you :sob: But apparently you have to raise her hidden stat (I think) if you want to pet Briseis.

It was the author’s first game. And it the first part of a trilogy. It’s only one piece of a long story. I think the author divided the content so that she’ll have enough content for three books. So we’ll have many, many more options in the sequel. And hopefully in the third and final book too!

Relateable. I love dogs, and hellhounds are just snarky puppies :two_hearts:

What’s up with everyone and the celestial blade? Everyone wants to buy it now  The author intended it to be a joke. But maybe the KotSaM fandom can finally convince her to make it an actual thing?

@daydreamsincolor will we have the option to buy magical items and weapons in this sequel?

But those cost real money and the mc doesn’t have nearly enough of it, this is why the one good suit mine has had to be a charity gift from Leon and Cyrus. :unamused: Well at least shopping with them seems to be fun, but not being able to pay for things himself did nothing to make my mc feel less like a damsel in distress.

This is why I suggested letting the mc on the Delacroix massacre subplot browse the bazaar stalls too prior to going to the restaurant in that scene (totally not because it would have allowed my mc to buy the shield item that would have let him carry his own weight at least in the final battle without needing to be rescued by Leon  ).
Since my mc had about $1000 left over he would have either bought more (I mean we could have at least given Alty both gloves and snow globe) or more expensive gifts for Alty (and maybe Cy too) or maybe at least one leather jacket, assuming there ever was a sale on at Kerse, for himself.

I like dogs in real life but my poor mc has been hounded by those hellhound things one time too many to ever truly like them. As for the frost bear that is mistaken for a cute puppy at first, how will we ever be able to afford to feed it when money is quite tight already?
That said probably going to go for the phantom cat and teach it to be a guard kitten and keep my mc paternal relatives away. Also means he’ll be living with both big fluffy cat and little kitty cat, besides even my mc’s heart melts for the adorable kitty and Cyrus scene. :cat:
Hope none of the suitemates (or Alty)

My mc was quite charmed by her too, she seemed pleasant at least. Probably again going to be a big contrast to the shrew of a stepmother the mc possibly gets from “Xander”. :worried:

You mean the thing most of us old grumps eventually turn into? I wouldn’t hold that against him too much.

Really? To my mc he seemed like the only one of the parents he’d met who was both pleasant with him, even if that part was politician pretend stuff (it’s a skill secretary Monroe certainly doesn’t share or care to apply to the mc) and he didn’t come with outrageous expectations, claims or demands and just let us be ourselves for once. Again a big contrast to Tiras, Secretary Monroe and that jerkass “Xander” or even, on the other part both president and director Castella.

While my mc won’t bring it up unprovoked if Leon pushes him or is too nosy about the “Xander” sperm-donor thing my mc will strike back at little kitty-cat.

Will my mc finally be able to take Alty up on that offer, even when we’re not taking the telekinesis classes ourselves?

Fortunately my mc always relishes the challenge of figuring out Alty’s secrets.

Interesting seems Dominic is one of the very few people to share my mc’s initial reaction to Cyrus it seems. In addition Cyrus is funny, something he shares with Altair, though Alty is more restrained in that regard.

Awww…Alty, come on particularly since you’re probably a genius yoursefl. Sera is cool.

Since my mc is apparently just as smart when he isn’t being lazy I wonder does Kol think he’s “scary” too?

Heh, another sentiment my mc shares with Cy.

I’ll say it again, your mc probably needs to folow Katia’s strategy as an evil dragon Briseis seems to be susceptible to bribery with treats for the moment. Once she gets older that will probably turn into treasure and princes, so take advantage of it while the going rate is still affordable. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Okay, a bit of a thing- The game doesn’t change in any way if we’re dating Katia, and since we meet up with Katia that’s a bit jarring.

How about a hug, a peck on the cheek, a line about texting each other over the summer, something?

Jobs? I mean, we had jobs in the first game.

And since we literally live in a magical city, wouldn’t magical items be “mundane”? Like buying a potion is like buying a bottle of overpriced water Fiji water is overrated.

I’m fine with Leon being my sugar daddy tbh.

And I’m totally fine with Leon being my knight in shining armor too

Would you like that scene a little bit more if it was Cy who took a hit for you?

I love dogs and cats! My MC loves dogs and this is a headcanon thing but I’ve always imagined that she grew up with a dog but it wasn’t actually her dog. The dog belonged to her cousin. But the dog didn’t actually belong to her cousin… It belonged to some guy who lost it.

I’ve never owned a bear but I do own two ducks so my opinion isn’t valid at all but can’t we just share Briseis’ food with the bear? I mean, Sera’s pretty rich so she probably has a lot of pet food in store.

Same image

Imagine if she actually turned out to be the nicest person MC has ever encountered. Biggest plot twist ever.

I thought millennials hated that stuff? Constantly being hounded by the older generation? Why turn into something you despise? I don’t think I can speak for every gen Z kid but personally I wouldn’t pull that card on my kids. So yes, I do hold that against Leon’s dad. And I hold that against anyone in real life who even dares to mutter the words “back in my day, kids would…”. And Theron keeps hounding Leon about being a failure so there’s that too.

Yeah. The whole situation was pretty awkward and stale.

It’s funny how we can bribe Briseis and Thalia with food.

Ok let’s be real, if Briseis was big enough to kidnap anyone, who would she kidnap and lock inside a magical tower???

Yeah, but I have the sneaking suspicion that with the Keeper fame it will be either impossible or undesirable to maintain those jobs. In any case we don’t earn nearly enough of those part-time things to pay for a high society wardrobe and I imagine the really useful high quality magical items carry a commensurate price tag that will be comically beyond our reach.

I mean I think Secretary Monroe isn’t going to let my mc continue his sinecure personal assistant job and my mc doesn’t want to become a political PR prop and certainly not a “media personality” who’d be paid in nothing but worthless “exposure” anyway. :unamused:

Difference between our mc’s mine would ideally like to be able to carry his own weight and pay Leon and Cyrus back by buying them some nice and expensive stuff. He has no problem with accepting the occasional gift even of clothing, not being able to return the favour in kind is what really gets to him. Which makes it charity.

Speaking about jobs and reciprocity again I suppose that in the new Altair subplot my mc doesn’t quite like the idea of his asshole sperm-donor benefitting from Altair’s considerable skills and intellect.

Or Altair? I mean anything those boys do is totally hot and sexy. Ehm…well…no comment! :persevere: But again in the long run the problem would be reciprocity, my isn’t able to return any favours he receives. Which is what lies at the core of being a chronic damsel-in-distress charity recipient.

Ugh! Needing charity to even be able to feed our own damned pet would really be a new low.

Okay speaking as one of the older “Millenials here” but back in my day kids weren’t cyborg zombies constantly glued to their various apps and “smart” screens. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Nah, I love my young budding martial artist cousin and I’m frankly glad that apart from college tuition and barring a new financial crisis/depression most things seem to be looking up for his generation even if mine is partially a “lost” one saddled with sluggish wage growth and the price of the financial crisis.

That said since to him and his generation I’m already a balding, older guy who, like his parents doesn’t “get” modern youth culture, music and celebrities it is sometimes fun and stress relieving to act the cranky old guy like that. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Which is why I get that Cy’s crankiness is part of his mechanism of dealing with being constantly put under a lot of stress.

Hmm…we must really read that differently since for my mc his interactions with Secretary Monroe, Tiras and most of all his own asshole sperm donor are far less comfortable. Then again it might just be indicative of the severity of the “daddy issues” in this game that Leon’s dad is kind of the “best of the worst” when it comes to that lot.

Well, she was either duped or voluntarily shackled herself to his asshole sperm-donor, so how great could she possibly be?
At best my mc might feel kinda sorry for her but he really isn’t in the market for a second “mother” at this stage in his life and he certainly needs neither pity nor charity from her!
Lastly it also has to be viewed in the light that “Xander” seems to have really hurt my mc’s mom and then abandoned her and my mc both for his new, perfect trophy wife and family (possibly assuming he is even married of course). Which is bordering on criminally negligent because my mc did turn out to have dangerous and unknown magical powers, even if they were worthlessly late in being discovered and never once “manifested” spontaneously on their own.
Again, it’s kind of obvious he doesn’t really see the mc as his kid, just a potential asset he might have written off a bit too soon initially now that it turns out the Constellation project did produce a viable result.

Well Altair does seem the most princely of our friends. Leon and Cyrus probably also qualify though. :worried:

Actually, you can choose not to raise your fame stats and thus you can stay pretty irrelevant. I think you’re blowing up the fame thing out of proportion. I think when MC gets announced as a keeper the public would go crazy (for the better or worse). But after a few weeks or months you’ll be classified as an irrelevant celebrity with 15 minutes of fame unless You decide to raise your fame stat.

It’s nice to rely on someone after being abandoned by the person you thought you could rely on aka our father. That’s my MC’s mindset.

There’s other ways to repay them if they’re our RO :smirk:

Ok but at least his angst rating is the lowest

Maybe the MC can repay them after getting really known as a keeper? Again with the fame stats… it has so much potential.

Don’t get a pet?

I never viewed millennials as that old. I mean, their humor is as bizarre and nihilistic as gen Z memes.

Leon was clearly uncomfortable and it was once or twice mentioned in the text.

Theron and Lysander share one thing in common: They don’t acknowledge the MC’s existance.

So kind of like the greek gods?

I mean, look who Mirabelle ended up with. I thought you disliked narcissistic characters especially after all that complaning about Leon’s ego. But what about Theron? Remember the solstice scene?

Except Altair and Cyrus has a chance to fight aginst Briseis. Leon scored pretty low in the fighting ranking list (you can find it on the blog). Leon would probably end up as the poor locked up pretty prince in the tower and Cyrus is the brooding prince in shining armor :stuck_out_tongue:

They weren’t catastrophic :') , I understood what you were trying to say. I was quite happy to see some French. XD

I don’t know if anyone picked up the phrasing of the first option but I’m sending it anyway. Sorry if I’m repeating(but I don’t have the courage to read every post…)

@daydreamsincolor Speaking of foreign languages — will we ever see Mirabelle speaking vietnamese? It doesn’t need to be a full scene, maybe a few simple words like “good evening” or “greetings”. I’d be happy to help since I am viet :slightly_smiling_face:

Wouldn’t we be forced to have role in the solstices no matter what though? If so that would never allow us to completely fade into obscurity.

Seems like what we really need to stay a “normal” magi is prevent that announcement in the first place.

Sure, but not being able to carry his own weight would do nothing from perceiving my mc as a “gold digger”. And it doesn’t address the reciprocity issues with Cyrus, Leon and Sera in my mc’s case as he certainly isn’t having crazy good sex on a regular basis with any them.

Yep his angst rating. Him working both for his asshole sperm-donor and with a woman who might very well choose to blame my mc for the death of her own son isn’t going to help for my mc’s own angst rating.

Seems to be non-paying position, unfortunately.

Only assuming you like being a vapid “media personality”. Also trying to become one would mean that corporations and politicians would force their style and views on the mc, so forget about having our own style.

I think my mc can manage a phantom kitty, even on a crappy Buffy type “job”.

Awww…thanks.

Actually, Theron does, assuming the mc is a Nephilim, which is why my main mc and witch-boy likely have different first impressions of the guy.

Well, there would certainly be similarities, but fortunately none of the dads here are actual gods.
But to answer your question, if it turns out “Xander” was able to be a decent father and provider to his “real” and magical family, while tossing the mc and their mom aside, then that would make my mc even angrier, yes.

Theron at least is a good provider, Xander couldn’t even be bothered to pay a single cent in child support in spite of his wealth. So at least Theron isn’t a deadbeat while Lysander very much is.

I do, typical attention loving politician stuff.

Reminds me of their banter if you choose the funniest branch in his conversation during the party, even if that loses you a few minor relationship points, that dialogue is totally one of the funniest in the game.

Even if we do attend special ceremonies, a lot of people would just look at us and think “oh yeah, it’s that keeper kid.” and move along. Because as far as I know, celebrities can become very, very irrelevant very quickly if they choose to not pursue their fame. Some popular celebrities in the real world have fallen away from their glorious days. Lana Del Rey was still babysitting when she became famous.

I meant like… bringing them to dates and spend quality time together to form unforgettable memories. Or something mundane such as giving them a massage. But like, yeah, your way works too.

MC’s angst rating is crazy, I agree on that.

Remember what I said about the fame stats, kids. It’s up to you if it’s a non-paying position or not. For MCs with high fame stat — yeah. But as far as I know your MC isn’t that type of person, so yes, you unfortunately won’t get any profit from this.

So not getting a decent paycheck is an issue but don’t want to work or try to make a profit?

Meh. I don’t know about that. If MC wants to be a fashion icon wouldn’t they get to choose? I think the author implied that too, that we could choose to make a certain item trendy again.

???

What

In my nephilim playthrough he ignored me during the dinner scene. Didn’t the author write it down too? I save screenshots of my favorite scenes so I might have it in my ss folder

No, my mc doesn’t want to be a “media personality” but if he can’t get out from under that solstice stuff they better include an appearance fee. By “celebrity” standards it doesn’t have to be that high, but since it is a high society social function to pay for what he needs to wear to look decent I’d still be thinking between 10 to 20k per event. Which, again, in celebrity terms is still little league stuff. But my mc is not doing it entirely unpaid or “for the exposure”.

Yeah, but she at least became famous for something she was actually good at and enjoyed doing, that’s a big difference. Because whatever a keeper is supposed to be doing my mc is totally inept at it ( I mean my mc can barely use normal magic as it is) and since it seems to center around “addict junkie” magic he’s not sure if he wants to become good at it because he can’t afford multiple stints of swanky rehab and the “prison style” rehab for poor people amounts to torture. :fearful:

As for fame itself, my mc wouldn’t have minded too much if said fame had as come a price for doing something he loves like being an actor or something and before his life took this strange twist my mc might have been toying with going into politics but in those cases he’d hopefully (assuming they had worked out) have become famous for things he actually did, for better or worse.
However the kind of “fame” that seems to come with being a “keeper” comes from just with being born and it seems that, much like today’s constitutional monarch’s we’d be prevented from having any incisive, divisive or disturbing (political) opinions in public.

Our female (less so with the male ones) royals are always “fashion icons” by default in spite of most of them being utterly boring even judging from what little I know of women’s fashion, but bold statements they don’t make, expensive most certainly, bold, no. And mc’s in this game don’t even have the money for expensive, so that would default to utterly boring middle-of-the-road completely bland stuff.
Same possibly for being a “fashion icon”, everything has to be mainstream, bland and acceptable to as many people as possible. Which isn’t what my mc wants to be at all.

As for work my mc wants to do, his shortlist in high school was (local) politician, investigative journalist, actor or scientist in descending order of preference.

Trying for actor or politician is out in the magical world.
Even if he wanted to be the latter he doesn’t exactly grasp the politics of the magical world (unlike those of his human home town, where at least he could have started small) and America is currently experiencing the very joys of someone who doesn’t seem to have a clue of what he’s doing being at the helm and my mc does not want to go down in history as NMC’s most incompetent political nitwit.

As for being an actor it really would have been the work and getting paid to continue to be a drama geek that he would have loved, getting really famous for it would have been something he’d have found annoying but like I said earlier had it been the price for being able to do something he truly loved he’d have tried to find a way to make it work.

Lastly in spite of his relative academic laziness in high school one thing my mc does know is that he’s smart and if all else failed he could try to fall back on that and STEM subjects, though it means both working harder and not quite doing something he loves as much as the other options, but for good pay, regular hours and a decent work-life balance he could have made that work too. And some STEM subjects are at least interesting and worthwhile so if he was lucky the work would have been at least moderately fulfilling at the end of the day too.

But unless NMC degrees teach the relevant skills for that and are recognized in the human world the keeper reveal blows even that backup plan to smithereens as his asshole sperm-donor turns out to be real, possibly unavoidably big in the magitech world and my mc does not want to work for that guy or his half-siblings.

I already commented on investigative journalist, given his new keeper status that too seems out of the question and he doesn’t want to be a presenter or anchor as that would mean a boring job in an even more boring suit. Although I suppose he could try and write a tell-all book about the Constellation project, but that would mean cutting real close to home and exposing himself.

Here’s the scene:

Spoilers

*if magi
*if species = “nephilim”
“So, this is $!{name} ${surname}?” You’re almost surprised he knows your name.

“Well, ${heshe}'${s} not the waiter,” says Cyrus, before Cressida elbows him in the side. She isn’t too focused on your conversation, instead exchanging pleasantries with Mirabelle, but she’s obviously aware enough to know when her brother’s being rude.

Instead of being annoyed, Dalton laughs loudly. “It’s been a while, Cyrus. Have you been helping $!{name} at all with ${hisher} powers? You always were good at flying.”

It’s not much but he does actually remember the name of a Nephilim mc and unlike Alty’s dad and Secretary Monroe he at least remembers his manners.

The 100% true and accurate story as far as my mc is concerned.:sweat_smile:

But that’s all stuff my does anyway, so it still wouldn’t make him feel better about being a perpetual charity case.

Yep.

You can pet Briseis if you have Seraphina relationship at least 60!

Petrova, Darzi, Kerr, Ebner, and Moriarty will be the most involved in the sequel—two of them are involved in faction subplots, and MC should have the chance to TA for one of the others.

Thank you very much! Choice of Games has a few tutorials on their website that I read, and then I sort of just jumped into coding. I’d definitely say the easiest way to get coding is by coding. When I first started coding, I would figure out what I needed to do, and if I didn’t know how to do that, I would look it up on the Choicescript wiki or reference the tutorials. I definitely got way better throughout the time I spent on the first book. Good luck!!

@Terrell_Williams
Ahh, gotcha. Thanks for the catch!

It will probably be a possibility as a solstice present for MC to receive.

Probably not. It depends on how soon they’re revealed in-game though—e.g. Jarrod being a hunter was revealed pretty early on, so it was basically common knowledge, whereas Altair compelling Astrid wasn’t.

MC and co will have the chance to go to Mirabelle and Theron’s wedding in Day and Night! (It’s practically the only formal event I’ve planned thus far without a monster attack!)

Yep! (Or make one if MC’s a Ritual Magic and Potions major.)

IIRC it’s mentioned that Altair tutored MC in telekinesis if they ask for lessons, although there’s no scene showing him tutoring them.

There’s this line—was it not appearing properly?

"It's so good to see you again," cries Katia, ignoring her fellow nymph entirely.
*if RO = "Katia"
She peppers your face with kisses, wrapping her arms tightly around you.

Lysander isn’t married and doesn’t have any kids other than MC.

Thank you!

Possibly at the wedding to her mother or brother. Thank you for your offer!

I was listening to her when I read this :joy:

Oh my god you listen to her too???

If you don’t mind me askng: What song were you listening to?

Oh. So you will only update the list when that knowledge becomes common knowledge in the kotSaM fandom?

At least MC gets to catch a break!

No problem. And thanks for taking my suggestion into consideration!

Not surprised about the no other kids thing, he’s a lousy father after all. But honestly surprised about him not having his classic CEO trophy wife.

See @Fay it’s nice of them to let Leon invite us. Of course, my mc will probably need to borrow a suitable suit from Leon for it, which isn’t exactly his preferred style. But better than wearing the one nice suit he has to literally every event or showing up in something cheap enough that he can actually afford it that’s going to really clash and stand out in a not very positive way.

Hmmm…that may be why I don’t remember it, but I also don’t remember it giving even a single point in stat-rise. But then my mc’s don’t take telekinesis.

So… it’s a hunter attack instead?
