Keeper of Day and Night (Update Post 1932)

Born to Die - Paradise edition is my favorite album :sparkling_heart:

Anyway, I’ve seen a lot of vine and meme references on the blog. I’ve been a follower of your blog for quite some time and there was almost little to no memes at all. I’m so happy that the KotSaM fandom has grown so much and all the memes on the blog put a big smile on my face. And that’s why I ask — will we ever have the option to sneak in a vine reference in the game? Can the MC drop a small reference or something like that? I mean, you already incorporated the fandom’s leon-fanclub inside joke. It was hilarious, and I was shocked that you did that! It’s admirable to see how in touch you are with your fans. And this was just a comic relief suggestion, so I don’t expect you to take it seriously. But it’d be funny!

Or maybe the celestial blade could reappear again? But the MC still won’t be able to purchase it. The celestial blade has pretty much become a running gag in the KotSaM fandom. Maybe just a random little mention in a dialogue?

Edit:
Found a little typo, by the way:

Done*

I also found it weird that the player could choose to boast about helping to put down the hellhound yet still have the option to tell Leon that it was wrong to boast about it. Isn’t it a little bit hypocritical? Maybe you should remove that option for players who’ve chosen to boast about their contributions to the battle?

For the ROs from the last book, what level of the MC’s relationship with them reach? Like will there be the first “I love you exchanged”, or maybe the MC and Ro sleeping together?

Yes, but not really. It is hard to tell with a sentence fragment. “Did you do…” which is how I read it, is correct, however, “Have you done…” is correct as well.

Except that the MC never really said “Did you do…”. If you click that option, Cressy will answer. So it will seem like the conversation went something like this:

MC: “Do anything last summer?”

Cressida: “I had an internship with Congressman Dalton, and Cyrus had one with a professional duelist.”

And it’d be less confusing if the author replaced do with done. In addition to this, the conversation might seem a little less awkward unless you fill it out with your own words. And isn’t it weird that the other choices seem to be grammatically correct except for this one?

So what’s stopping the mc from revealing this? I mean it’s not like we’d be walking away from a well-paying job and my mc certainly has no interest in covering his magical dad’s tracks for him when it comes to corrupt activities.

My mc’s instinctive answer would be a resounding “No!”. After all his supposed “powers” never really manifested on their own and to this day he feels far more comfortable using ritual magic or potions than his powers.

Shouldn’t they be busy keeping the balance, whatever that means given the absence of actual, celestial creatures in their parts of the world, instead of bothering with an “artificial” experiment like the mc?

That’s so cool, wow! Though I and my mc both will be sad that it is in line with our known space programmes and that there are no secret magi Moon or even Mars bases.

In addition when code crawling, this choice sets a plus when it should be a minus, unless magical dad really is a masochist:

#I blame Lysander, whatever it is. _
_ *set lysanderrelationship %+5

_ He’d hurt your mother, or at least hadn’t stopped someone else from hurting her. It’s not like the two are worlds apart._

And a bit more of Lysander’s douchebaggery here:

She’d burst into tears when you’d said that you were a keeper and explained what it meant, but she hadn’t brought up the Constellation Project. Maybe she wasn’t told the purpose of the project. Or maybe, perhaps even more worrying, she didn’t even know it had happened.

Sorry, I never really kept up with vine, so probably not a vine reference. MC should have the opportunity to reference a meme or two though!

(Did the first game mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell not count as a meme though?)

Suggestions like that will make me keep bringing up the celestial blade in the sequel and only really have it available in the third book :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Thanks for the catch!

I’ll add a variable for the next update so Leon can call them out for it if they boast and claim it’s wrong for him to have done it.

@Midnitewulf01
There will probably be both dramatic declarations of love and casual "love you"s said. Anything NSFW will be left to the reader’s imagination and won’t be covered in-game. Thanks for asking!

I might give an option for MC to consider it, but the issue is that no one would believe them. The Delacroix Family is dead and beloved—some rando’s saying they had a human experimentation project going on? The public’s not going to side with MC; even once they’ve been declared a keeper, they don’t have the sway to do something like that.

There are also the issues that almost all of the evidence was destroyed; most of the employees on the project and others with awareness of the project are dead; and certain people in positions of power don’t want any information about the Constellation Project to get out, including two of the three secretaries.

Both of the keepers are busy in their parts of the world, but MC should have the chance to meet at least one of them depending on what species route they’re on.

So essentially fame stat, absolutely useless for anything remotely worthwhile at all. :unamused:
And an entire office of Keeper relations? Seems like everybody is profiting of off this keeper thing somehow, except for the mc who must do it for the beyond worthless “exposure”.
But mc and Sera do have some evidence unless you’re saying Sera destroyed all of what little they had? If so my mc really needs to have a talk with Sera.

Okay so just going to default to the standard line of: “I don’t want to be a keeper!” then. Again it doesn’t seem like there are any benefits in the gig for the mc and certainly no material ones.

Would they have any useful advice, like how to quit the gig for example to impart?

Hoo, hold up there, you’re saying the third might not mind or even like it if it does get out? The late Delacroix family not so beloved with our Nymph Secretary, particularly after her near death experience during the recent mess. Sadly while she might derive som passive enjoyment from the spectacle it doesn’t seem like she’d be willing to provide any backing, political or otherwise.

Caught a tiny spelling error here:

“I didn’t have any friends living [/s]their[/s] there last year.”
Why is the mc being moved to another dorm? The old one was just fine.

Also, geez “practical magic innovations” this and that and so on and so forth. Altair, our former RA, Jaime’s mom even Sera is everybody that eager to make his deadbeat sperm donor even wealthier? Ugh! :unamused:
It almost seems like it is a monopolist. Any chance for an mc who isn’t interested in becoming a duelist or vapid media personality to intern with a competing company, preferably under an assumed name? Does it even have any (significant) competitors or rivals or is it really a monopoly?

Yes

That’s good enough for me!

It is a meme. They die pretty quickly but yeah, it used to be

But what if you made it available in the third book and before MC can buy it someone else decides to purchase it right in front of them

Author, you really like to torment us :astonished:

Will you put them on the character list at your blog or would it be too spoilery?

Very few of my characters would be interested in mentioning the Constellation Project.

Why not?

I think it’s because of the public backlash?

Several of my MCs like the quiet life.

Here’s a few mistakes I noticed:

The first option should be either “protect my dad” or “my dad going to be protected.”

From the stats screen:

Isn’t Altair a year ahead of us? So he would be a junior.

Should Roxana’s name be bolded too?

I really liked the little blurbs about how the characters felt about the MC.

You’ll only have a chance at that without the keeper gig I think. Being a keeper makes the mc a constant target for monsters and rogues and mc doesn’t have the skills or resources and wealth the protect themselves as we rely on the charity of our magi friends for that.

Okay so I totally posted this in the discussion thread at first

Was replaying earier and noticed some things:

This option seems to be jumbled. If it helps I got this right after the scene with the picture of my MC and their RO. My MC had a mom w/ a bad relationship.

Extra quotation mark.

They have the information Sera got from reading Director Castella’s mind, a list of people an operation was performed on without stating what the operation was, and a verbal confession from Director Castella. Castella wouldn’t be willing to testify and there’s not enough evidence to force him to do so.

Both keepers work closely with their respective (supernatural) governments, but keeper isn’t a celebrity position like it is in America, so it’s very different for them than it would be for an American keeper.

Practical Magic Innovations began with magic tech innovations and expanded to other fields including ritual magic and potions.

There are two or three significant competitors, but none that are particularly relevant to the story.

It wouldn’t be spoilery at all, the other keepers just aren’t major characters in the game. (I haven’t even come up with last names for them yet )

@Hannah_Minger @Vox
Thanks for the catches!

Also, @daydreamsincolor it seems like the highest we can set our relationship stat is 70%. I had 80% with a few characters in the first book so will it be possible to have an option that raises the relationship stat to 80%?

Damn…you mean they actually got a well-paying government job for life out of it, with the appropriate resources, organizational support and training instead of just being told to do an impossible job with no resources or training? If we really can’t get out of the whole keeper gig I don’t suppose any of their agencies would be willing to employ the mc?

The government here needs to understand my mc is not a Delacroix, is not particularly wealthy and has had no advanced or secret magic training. Being told that keepers should protect themselves, never mind being able to afford to mingle with high society, with no additional support because all previous American keepers happened to be born to high society families and independently wealthy from birth does not help or make my mc more inclined to take the gig. :unamused:

Well unless my mc is going to need a place to intern as a junior in the next book too. He certainly isn’t going to do it with his sperm-donor’s operation. :persevere:

We can also set our stats to 30 max, when there were even some 35 stat checks in the first game and while my main mc topped out at 33 INT my magician one got 37 there.

Oh, it seems like maxing out your stats isn’t available?
