So I’ve come up with this idea of allowing you to pick your breakfast in my WIP, basically what I want to do is come up with a list of breakfast items they can pick for their first and second plates and a list of drinks to pair. instead of allowing them to choose from a predetermined combination of foodstuffs.
Basically allowing them to create their own combination of what they’d like for breakfast. All I really want to know is there an unsaid limit to how many items we can add to the list that’s not excessive?
No because that’s really complicated, and i’ll receive a lot of hate if I screw something up. Although building on that idea I can add food from various ethnicities and religions. That’s something I Could consider, and not something I can get wrong easily with a bit of research.
Well, i recommend following the Chekov’s Gun principle. Basically, pick something that someone would have a reason to want to eat specifically, and then just don’t use anything that would mean the same option. And even if it is just a flavor option, i like when the game gives me details about the flavor thing i choose, so it doesn’t look like just a variable in a generic food description.
Well if your world doesn’t have various religions ( i.e. not Earth)
A meaty breakfast
A cereal/oatmeal type breakfast
The military has me here against my will so I’m not eating
Just coffee
Vegetarian breakfast
Something unique to their community fo example if they live underwater fish might be sustenance if they live in the sky birds. So a gamefowl breakfast
Also maybe Consult @MeltingPenguins since she’s the foremost authority on food in games
no, no you didn’t understand what I meant. I’m Allowing the reader to create their own combinations for food not a predetermined combination. Meaning all food is different.
Probably about 7 choices at most. It’s just breakfast, if it doesn’t really affect the plot then I think it’s something people shouldn’t read into too much.
Yes, but I also want it to be unique, so I may start off with a bunch of choices. and then as time wears on i’ll lower the number of choices to the ones most often picked.
There are many solutions to one problem. There is never one correct answer there may be more and some may fit better than others. I hope this works…I don’t want to annoy my readers.
Focus on the narrative and adapt later. Hell have four options at first meat , cereal, oatmeal, and just coffee then later when you’re really chugging along you can come back to breakfast.
Well, if you don’t want to annoy the reader, you can always give them some option like “i’ll eat whatever” or the like, then they could skip breakfast selection or get a random breakfast
Okay, interesting idea about randomizing breakfast although i’ll have to find some help on that…
I would have to make every single breakfast item into a variable and Then number them for randomization. altogether that’s a lot of work
Technically you could just have a write in if they want to put Red Bull and Cold Pizza, Caviar and foi gras with red wine, or “a plate of dicks” that’d be up to them. And their creativity.
