I will be upset with you if you don’t play a video game. There, now you can’t win! Nothing stopping you now from picking the choice that brings you happiness.
Sometimes, you can learn from other games. Even if they are not always directly relevant, you can find both inspiration and ideas to help you in your own game making.
My take of this is that no, staring at a screen of any kind when you have a migraine is definitely not the best idea.
I’ve finally translated my little fairy tale game from Diversity Jam to English, added some content and fixed a few mistakes.
Yes, this is usually where I get my game ideas from. Pretty much, wow, this game is great, but it would be even better if this were that etc. etc.
Sometimes when I have a horrible headache and I still am really feeling the writing/game creation energy I will work on planning instead of actual coding - trying to figure out my characters and plots and what vars I need better, do a little story boarding - all on paper rather than the computer as it will be a lot less straining that way.
Will, you’re an adorable lil boss, and I had to take your answer. XD
You are one hundred and fifty percent correct here.
You are absolutely correct. Sadly, ADHD means laying in bed with my eyes closed means sleep. And if I sleep, I fuck up my sleep schedule for the whole week.
This is a very good idea. Thank you!
Day 3 of migraine. Not fucking fun. TAT
If I don’t immediately try to sleep my migraine away, it’s 99% going to last the whole week, which means I’m going to waste that whole week anyway. But you obviously know your head best. Please try to get healed anyway!
(I hate migraine, if that wasn’t clear already.)
I have had a surprising amount of success in just powering through a migraine by going to the gym - including today, when I woke up with a pretty nasty throbbing behind my right eye.
Last month I was trying to get through some scenes I wasn’t super excited about (and I didn’t do a single one! yay me!) but I’ve been working pretty hard on them this week and I’ve finished a few but the more important part of this is that in doing so, I have hit a mini-milestone! The first possible kiss in one of the romance paths! It’s not that big a deal really, but I’m happy to have gotten this far and just wanted to put it out there.
I’ve been thinking about amnesiac RPG protagonists, and now I have this bizarre idea of a character who’s a reality-warping cosmic being who took a human shape, forgot who it was, and retconned itself a human identity, rewriting the world in the process so that it retroactively was there before, even though it originally wasn’t.
I need sleep.
I think this is basically the conceit behind the systems in 2002 French RPG Arx Fatalis.
Does anyone else struggle with anxiety surrounding starting writing/doing things in general?
It’s always so hard to take the first step even if I know it will get better as I go on
Writing this as a commitment to do 2K words today
I can do it!!
This reminds me a bit of one game, but saying which one it is would be spoilers. Sounds super interesting!
As said before this week has been a very busy week so not a lot of time to write. Most of the free time I had this week to work on the project was spend on improving the code and doing background work/research for the characters. Which I guess is also important, but doesn’t help me reach my word goals. Next week I’ve got 2 days off work so hopefully I can play some catch-up on my writing then.
Hello everyone,
As I wake to the beginning of week two of July 2024, I look to really focus in on my editing passes and changes I am making based on the feedback I have received.
There is the tail-end of a heat dome driving the temperatures here into the 90’s, but they say things will go back to normal by the end of the week. I hope so because I am more productive when the temperature is more moderate.
My next planned post here will be on the 15th, which will have both an excerpt and a status update for the third week of the month.
I hope everyone has a productive and happy week!

Have a very, very rough snippet. Warning, contains snakes.
Slowly, carefully, you creak open the warehouse door and peek inside.
Well, try to. It’s dark. Coming in from the sunshine lets you in a need of waiting for a couple of minutes to let your eyes to adjust. When you finally get your vision back, you look around, and - what you see is definitely not what you expected. The floor is covered by a black, slithering, hissing mass of snakes. Live snakes. Vipers, maybe? Dozens of them.
You recoil, slamming the door shut.
Jan looks at you from the huge bowl of porridge on the doorstep. “What’s wrong?”
“Snakes,” you say.
“Oh, come on.” Jan brushes past you and opens the door.
Inside, there are no snakes. Instead, dozens of black cats lounge on the floor. When you enter, their heads turn to your direction, in unison, golden eyes glowig in the light that’s creeping in from the doorway and the small, dirty windows high on the walls.
Sounds intriguing. I was all set to call for Samuel L. for a moment to deal with the snakes but then not so much . . .
@lliiraanna I laughed so hard at that I wrote a whole bit with a character talking about how much they needed coffee, only to remember they don’t drink it.
I seem to be spawning random ideas today. Now I’m picturing an urban fantasy, where the supernatural creatures try to keep up the masquerade (as you do), except that it’s totally pointless because the regular humans are fully aware that the supernatural exist, the humans just pretend not to notice because the supernatural work so hard for it and the humans don’t want to hurt their feelings. Or something like that, it’s a bit vague thought.
Better not. I mean, you could do that I guess, but it would be a very bad idea.
The MC in that scenario is a detective trying to find a missing reporter-slash-vigilante-slash-wizard, who lives in that warehouse, and those snakes are actually magical guardians of the place. So you would a) get yelled at by your partner, b) annoy the person you’re trying to find and whose help you need, and c) get your ass royally kicked by a warehouse.
Reuse it for another character?
On the other hand, that’s probably at least 15k more than what I have.
omg lol
“Can–can you still see me?”
“Uh. No. Definitely not. Totally invisible. Wow.”
Am I talking to my seven year old nephew or to a 345 year old vampire??
I wanted to hit 10k this month and for every word I wrote that wasn’t for my romance, I wanted to write twice that for it. So far, I’ve written 8k!! And 6k of that is for my WIP!! I’m so happy and proud!
There’s some stuff coming up later this month that I think is probably going to impede a lot of progress (and if I’m being honest, bum me tf out, which will also impede my progress) so I’m really happy to have started off this month on such a high note!
I hope this is a healthy, happy, and (if possible) productive week for everyone! And if you don’t accomplish everything you want to, I hope you can be kind to yourself anyway.
I’m so happy to see you comment something so positive on here, keep going we are all proud of you!
