Jolly Good: Cakes and Ale Free-for-All Discussion Thread Where Spoilers May Appear

Oh, I’m glad the mystery of the fellow by the bar in the artwork is solved. My friend and I couldn’t even come up with theories, he remained a proper question mark for the two of us as well. I’m going to share the good news with him (my friend, that is, not Duddles) posthaste.

The artist did “Friendly Goosefish” Duddles quite a kindness there

I quite disagree, I really enjoy the Rose and Thorn. It was terribly fun being able to set that couple up.

Fitzie is such a lovely friend… and such a bewildering love interest. Not that I mind it, I have heard that it’s good for the bloodflow when your head is spinning around like a top, after all.
In all seriousness, I really do love befriending him (or her, but they have been a man when I have played). I love the banter, the teasing and the playfulness (such as chosing to snatch the toast out of his hand and soon there are crumbs all over.) Complicated person for certain, but such a great friend. It feels as if we really have one another’s backs, albeit in a quite unconventional way at times. I must say I got rather touched when he rated me “outstanding” at the end. You’re outstanding too, Fitzie, you’re outstanding too. Ha.

Definitely one of the best games I have played in Choice of games thus far. Interesting plot, with many different paths and intriguing characters with a nice sense of humour as well. Looking forward for the second book of the trilogy.(hopefully it won’t be too long till it releases )

If the dear author reads this: will we get cheats, etc. in the next games too? It made the experience so much more relaxing for me and I hope we get those extras for in-app purchases in the sequels :orange_heart:

For sure I’ll put cheats for the various stats. I’ll probably put in the ability to tinker individually with the different relationship stats as well.

It will be, but I will try to make the wait worth it.

If parts are feeling tough (and if you have the cheats DLC) feel free to mess around with the stats until you hit a difficulty that feels right for you. But I hope that you also explore the various “failing to do things” paths too. A lot of them can end up leading you where you may want to go, albeit indirectly.

I just realised something. If the blue hat girl if female Rory then who was the guy she was talking to in the Tally Ho cover

Don’t tell me that’s Male Rory :scream: (it can’t be Frankinsence since they don’t smoke AT ALL )

But… If both Rorys and MCs can interact normally doesn’t that mean alternate universes intertwine almost daily ?! :scream:

They’re Valentine, MC, Rory and Frankincense.

I’ve always wanted to see some sort of artwork add-on for Tally Ho depicting Figs, Mopsie, Haze, Regina, and maybe some others, if only because the completeness of the Cakes and Ale cover leaves me wanting more.

So, I played through enough times blindly that I finally felt comfortable diving into the code for subsequent playthroughs (i.e. warning for meta spoilers).

First off-- Jolly Good is so, so good. There is, just, so much here.

Second-- I adore Fitzie now, especially after seeing how many times they can develop a crush on the MC and a certain level of pettiness they develop as a result. Some of their subtext went completely over my head my first few playthroughs until I caught them eyeing Vyv a certain way.

Lastly-- I don’t want to speculate too much here, but as another Starling fan… It was very interesting to see what boosts/drops their relationship. I feel like they value dignity and poise above all(?)-- even more than apologetic posturing. Makes me wonder even more about their leave, though I’m romantically bro’d with Fitzie for life.

Interesting trivia fact–one of the early sketches of the Tally Ho art had a masked Haze descending a zip line across the top of the scene but it a) took away from the composition and b) was a terrible spoiler.

Ooh… can you give us the early sketches then ? If you don’t mind of course

Oh… so it WASN’T just a random collision of timelines then… whoops my bad. I usually see them as a pair of MC and a pair of Rorys instead of a diffrent characters

We have another one @Kirlett :sob:

I guess you can say it was a jolly good time eh :smirk:

@Gower, shouldn’t the more relentlessly proper characters formally refer to Uncle Chum as Lord Flutterbury, rather than Lord Cholmondley Featherstonehaugh? Or have I misremembered Proper British Forms of Address?

To go to work for Fifi Buttercup, you need to get on Colonel Firesnuff’s good side while also discovering that they are Fifi Buttercup. This means that you must do the Inner Circle’s mission instead of helping Rory and Mopsy rob the baccarat game, but you must also read the manuscript, then choose to deliberately fail the mission by returning it to Dr. X after using a good Culture stat to tell Firesnuff how great it is. If you do all that, the option to work for Fifi should become available.

Now if I could only work out how to become a professional criminal…

I seem to have stumbled on a loop - the game lets me choose the first option over and over, which always results in the same text and the same set of options.

I’m interested in knowing which scenes you’ve found so far? The only big one I’ve seen is Fitzie coming to talk to you after the romantic scene with Vyv in that little painting closet of theirs, after which Fitzie is suggesting to MC that they dreamed something intimate, and if you let MC wish to know more they start talking about a wet dream they had involving the MC.

Another big one that comes to my mind is Fitzie’s reaction to your romantic interest on someone else. If Fitzie has a crush on you, they’re more hostile against your love interest in the cab talk on Ch. 5 and will also interrupt your talk with your love in Ch. 8. Otherwise, they’ll be more amenable, and may even offer to play matchmaker for you.

If Fitzie is being petty about Vyv or other nice ROs that actually like them, just imagine when Starling actually enters the picture ohmygod.

MC: [Chooses to THINK about Starling]
Fitzie: “And no missing Starling!”
MC: “I didn’t even say anything!”
Fitzie: “I could tell!”

That scene and a few others :smiling_imp::smiling_imp: “Starling is an idiot. And you can quote me” (Iconic line.)

A Fitzie romantically involved with MC actually meeting Starling and seeing them interact with MC in front of their salad…!!! It’s gonna be glorious. Fitzie will achieve unprecedented levels of pettiness.
