Well, i think for jolly good 1, all characters won’t fully develop a eternal love relationship yet,
although the closest hint i got is when Vyvian wrote i love you in my back , and i return the gesture, but vyvian may have hidden motive … from what i experience in the ending, the relationship will only be blossom in book 2 , what we have now is sort of close companionahip that may or may not be further blossom depend on the story of book 2
Ah… so in this case the first game is more on securing who fits ya fancy and the second book is on pursuing that fancy. The post I made above can be inaccurate since I based it all off my experiences and stats in Tally Ho so I acknowledge that.
Absolutely loving the game so far! The NPCs are incredibly detailed, and there’s so many choices the MC can make. The relationships with the other characters feels so authentic.
I loved the interactions with the MCs family (Matilda just might be my favourite fictional aunt!)
It’s easily the best COG game I’ve ever played
I’m just here to show my utmost love and appreciation for the “Sweet dreams” scene with Fitzie I think it’s my favorite scene in the whole game. It gives their romance in the making more layers than teasing and joking around AND if you combine it with the “And the next day, you will wonder why I’m not being sweet to you” dialogue… oh, Fitzie, but you are being sweet. Secretly. My heart just… melted.
QUESTION: could we actually have something with Fitzie in this book? Because I tried to make something happen at the opera, but I didn’t want to push too far or make it the “I just want 5 minutes of fun” way so at the end I chose the “Sigh. You’re right” option. And Fitzie was like “Good.” BUT HE DIDN’T SEEM THAT PLEASED SO. Should I have kept insisting???
Though I have to admit, I’m lowkey longing for Starling and they didn’t make a single appearence yet Could they be… a future… RO? Ahhhh, crossing my fingers
Ah, I haven’t done the scene at the opera, but if Fitzie’s in the arena and you’re forceful about your relationship, you two can get into a… shall I say compromising but blissful situation involving a closet room. Bet there’s something similar with the opera and the office as well.
By the way, I was looking around in the code and found two possible typos. Is this the best place to report them?
So, the game just released! I’m so glad to see its final form. It’s delightful, full of those small details, the careful balance between comedy and drama, the effortless narration that makes these stories so special. I kept thinking of something funny I could bring to the table, something to make all the regulars in the thread share a chuckle in this special time. I squeezed the old lemon for guidance and played with some ideas in my head during the spare time.
But then, it suddenly hit me.
I could try to write a Steam review of Cakes and Ale, in the voice of Bertie Wooster:
That last bit might need a bit of explaining. I tried to do an awful misquote by having Bertie mix this line from Tennyson’s Ulysses with a quote by Homer, who wrote the Odyssey, about Ulysses.
Ordinarily, send them to support AT choiceofgames DOT com.
But now that I’ve seen these, I’ve fixed them, so all set. Thanks for your eagle eye! These will be fixed in the next update (I’ll send in a batch of fixes tonight).
I can say with certainty that Starling will appear in Game 2 as a major character.
I can also say with certainty that Juniper will appear in Game 2 as a major character.
See, that’s what Steam needs. More entertaining reviews. Thank you!
Yes !! I see another one has oddly fallen in love with our former servant and @Gower your replies regarding Starling are being more and more cryptic with each post. Please consider making it (thoug its fine if you don’t want to do it. We can’t exactly force creativity to happen if its doesn’t come to us). But to be honest dear author, do you know Starling would make a huge fuss in the game beta or was it something you just realized once the first game was released?
I’m a simp for Starling. Poor MC didn’t even do anything wrong in my playthrough (took the blame for Marmaduke) and still she was like “Yes. I’m so sorry I’ll do better please come back”
Though I have to say, Starling seems the perfect servant in many ways, but Fitzie beats them in the most important quality: loyalty. At the end of the day you want someone that sticks around even when things get tough!
Now THAT I can preach. While Starling may have fit the mold of the perfect servant: is that all to be a GOOD one ? Starling seemed to be the type of person who is duty first, everything else is second ! But this can work since Jolly Good is a series AND they will appear in book 2, Starling can develop/ change their ways. Also, is it just me but why do I found Starling’s departure very skecthy ?
I mean MC stated that they never gotten along with Starling but they are a TOTAL WRECK once Starling left their service and from the dialouge they seem to care for them dearly. Maybe Starling left with a bad note and it soured their relations but it was never stated what was Starling’s reason to leave the MC’s employ… For all we know, Starling may left the MC’s service for another suspicuos reason and they just used the MC’s scandal to leave their service. Like maybe coughcough fallen in love with their employer coughcough
Look, I would give ANYTHING for that to be the reason, I’m totally in for the dutiful servant falls for employer and I want that Starling x MC romance BADLY, my friend, BADLY.
But, I dooooooubt it I always thought Starling left because of the scandal, because it would tarnish his own reputation, but maybe there are other reasons. I don’t think it had anything to do with romance, though, sadly. Also, MC caring about Starling depends completely on what type of MC you play as, I believe. In my playthrough, my MC felt bad about being a source of shame for Starling and she wanted to apologize, but that’s the most I got.
Funny side story: I read the Vyv epilogue (in Chapter 8) today and noticed that they talked about getting their own servant. Maybe that’ll springboard into Starling’s comeback. Or maybe they found a job working for some high-end client in Flutterbury, which also seems likely. Anyway, I’m pretty sure that choosing between Starling and Fitzie might be a pretty big plot point in Game 2.
Ernie doesn’t really show up with a relationship bar, it’s true. That’s something his share with other Gases, like the Noblest Gas, Toppers, Rory, Duddles, Paige etc. I guess that happens to make the relationship bar more shorter and cleaner.
A theory that I've been putting together
I’m preeetty sure that Public Enemy Number One, the one that Inspector Ambrose comments in the opera ending of Chapter 6, is actually Buck. The only evidence I have is that Buck spent some time in America before coming back to the UK and working with the Rowdies, something that is also true for PENO. And the Rowdies generally seem to have a very, um, blasé attitude about the law and common sense, a perfect place for someone planning to upset the current order.
@Greyscales Ah! Thanks for the hint! I’ve definitely visited the news place each time, so I’ll avoid it in my next playthrough and see what happens. Somehow, though, I’m more afraid of the scandal/fallout from a bad article than I am of an actual explosion
(Speaking of fear, I just discovered that an MC who establishes a fear of chimneys can literally pass out by picking an option where they try to say the word chimney. I cannot believe this is a thing, oh my god.)
I suppose this depends on what you mean by “something,” but I did manage to kiss Fitzie twice during my romance run with them! Once during the cab ride (while Hecuba was basically like… right there, oh dear), and once again later toward the very end.
Anyone having issues with the Extra Helping DLC? Played the game through once so far since I bought it yesterday, fantastic through and through. Decided to buy one of the DLCs and see how it changes the game. However, whenever I activate any of the cheats to change my stats, I return to the game and my stats have been reset to what they were before. Am I missing something?
And again, thank you @Gower for another lovely game. I was a huge fan of Tally Ho and I’m looking forward to your next games. Honestly I’ll probably buy each and every one as they come out!
I had that problem if I didn’t make a choice after returning to the game. Cheat, lock the stats, return to the game and make a choice that advances to the next page - that normally works for me.
Actually I think Fitzie beats Starling in another very important quality too…Fitzie is far sexier and nicer to look at. Also probably more clever and devious too.
Not to mention fun, Starling seems to have been a stick in the mud while my mc’s actually have fun with Fitzie. So whatever happened Starling simply wasn’t the right servant for any of my mc’s.
Well I chalk that one up to the mc being a super posh person of leisure. Note that in Creme de la Creme the mc also has trouble with some pretty basic things, having grown up with servants too.
And while, yes, they could certainly learn to cope without a servant the hard way…eventually, unlike say the Hedonist from the “Exiled from Court” Wip, this mc hasn’t lived without much money or a servant long enough for that to happen. Anyway just my two cents.
Got questions: Is there any good-bad with being nice to auntie and Marmaduke (Jenkins vibes anyone? lol) . I though, kissing up…mean more mouney…but nothing but half assed compliments? Like sheesh…stingy much .
Does anyone feel like Inspector Ambrose is much more straightforward and competent-seeming this time around? In Tally Ho, he seemed to be purposefully deceptive about his methods and abilities, but the vibe I’ve gotten this time around (at least in my playthroughs) is that he’s more direct and seems to be really good at his job.
