Jolly Good: Cakes and Ale Free-for-All Discussion Thread Where Spoilers May Appear

For the written characters I use this. As for the spoken word, this story is set in a time period close enough to do the original redneck, so the dialect of the poor, white, farmers of the Southern, former Confederate states. So that would be the baseline, now I also know that Hollywood deliberately forced actors to actually over or ham act that part, which is a large part of how “modern redneck” or the Hollywood Texas drawl was born.

I guess if forced to be a pioneer of Hollywood Redneck I guess this is a pretty decent impression:

Or this other one, also from GTA, for a bit less overstated version.

There’s no real redneck accent, as dialects and word pronunciation from different redneck parts of the United States are similar, but not similar enough to group them in one accent. The accents of Georgia and Louisiana, for example, are completely different from each other and the accents of some Southern states, such as North Carolina and Arkansas (well, parts of each of those), can’t even truly be described as “Southern.” Generally speaking, the accent that I see most commonly used in Hollywood is a Mississippi/Alabama-style accent, with more-heavy-than-real-life use of local dialect (ya’ll).

Regarding Mopsie, I double-checked and huh, there really isn’t. The ending I was thinking of was the one where she matures emotionally.

We do get a reference to Slippery Sal, at least! Tabby will mention it if your scandal is about stealing from the museum!

I love the philosiphy conversation with Vyv about how there are meanings for two individials to break up and then meet up again… i kind of agree with that as i had experience the same sentimental outcome real life as well, we lost contact with someone and then meet again , only thing i can’t decide is whether we continue where we left and start anew

I played this demo and I ABSOLUTE LOVE IT ! though I think I found a few error(s) in the demo.

What I have observed

Pilcrow when MC was retelling her tale how she got into the club noted that she didn’t leave a thank you note to her uncle. This was utter nonsense since I did create a thank you note.

Besides that this demo had me laughing and I thought when Fritzie said romantic but deadly I thought it was about Fritzie fighting for the MC with those debt collectors / pretending to be a couple (which would DEFINTELY increase her scandal bar). I didn’t think that it was an option to go on a roof and escape from the collectors there. Honestly that entire scene made me laugh. I’m cackling up just as I write this. Seriously, it didn’t help that she would have fallen to her doom if some poor window washer wasn’t there to catch her XD. That entire scene is a masterpiece and it has now become a canon part of my MC’s timeline (un)fortunately. Also, I’ve only met that window washer only once but I hope he’ll appear later on in the series. It would be comforting to know that the same window washer is there to save her in any dire roof jumping chaos. Plus, it can be an inside joke in the series

Since, I, unfortunately LOVE this demo too much I must (unfortunately) gush about it in this post

Tabby

Didn’t meet her in the demo unfortunately. Maybe, I should have gone to the dark alleyway instead… (probably would help finding that cofee store)

Gilberto (shining golden pants)

He kinda reminds me of Figs… if he wore shiny gold pants, played epee and probably much more attractive??? Like, seriously his affair with the random lady there reminds me of the Figs + Mopsie subplot along with the Rory,Frankincense and Mc love triangle. Except with more paparazzi ( does Jill really count as one? hm…)

Vyv

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM! They’re so sweet. A bit of a dreamer and … well, ditzy but they certainly mean well. Their description suprises me but it was a really pleasant one. And the part where both MC and Vyv forgot when they met was absolutely HILARIOUS. Heck, the entire law school scene was hilarious XD ! From Vyv’s exclamation & doodle drawing, to the professor’s remarks to MC’s choice and his uttershock when MC decides to apply his own lectures against him XD hahahaha… (the students writing down MC’s arguement was the cherry on top). Vyv is so utterly sweet. They’re like Figs but more loveable. They have a soft spot in my tender heart since I sort of relate to what they’re going through right now though unlike them my parents are much more supportive of my endevours.

Fitzie

Now, HERE’S the showstopper. Fitzie, fitzie, fitzie. If i would describe them like how Rory did it would be “Fitzie You’re a riot !” XD

To be honest they’re such a breath of fresh air. While everyone else feel closer to what I would have imagined them Fitzie is just the complete opposite. Their bold, Intelligent and certainly up to no good. They certainly are the complete opposite of the MC I’ve played in Tally Ho for sure! And I love the somewhat “one-sided” animosity between Fitzie and the Tally Ho Mc. It’s such a shame we can’t have any interactions between the 2.

When I first met Fitzie I was shocked at their behaviour right from the get-go. They don’t act like the Fitzie I had headcannoned in my head and they certainly don’t act like a servant from an elite servant club like Cadbury’s. But even then I fell in-love with them immedietly. Sure, They’re a bit rough around the edges but they certainly have potential and from what I’ve observed they need some mental stimulation cause that excessive energy is making them QUITE destructive.

Their banter with the MC is hilarious and I LOOOVE their dynamic with my MC. A girl who’d rather stick her nose into books while being surrounded and pulled into shenanigans of all sorts and a servant who’d get her into MORE trouble via getting her OUT of trouble or just not being a typical Cadbury molded servant. They honestly have a knack for finding one and despite constantly assuring my MC that they’re there to get her out of trouble they probably enjoys getting into trouble. They probably find it exciting.

Starling

I didn’t know the MC had a previous servant. And, from what I’ve known so far they seem like trouble despite being a competant servant. They certainly don’t have a good reputation in the Cadbury club for being such a bore and they certainly made MC’s life harder when they left the employ and spilled the beans to a JOURNALIST for some reason

But, despite all that I’m still intrested in their story of being in the MC’s employ since we only have a vague description of it except they left with a bad note and the fact that you can pick their gender makes me suspicious… Don’t tell me they’re going back to MC’s employ once Fitzie gets sacked :scream:

The MC

To be honest, MC deserves a spot here for being a character and I love them so dearly. The diffrent tone of voice between the narration in the prolouge and the chapters were honestly staggering. From the prolougue’s cheerful and jovial tone to chapter 1’s more melancholic atmosphere. Sure, there were some funny moments but when things come to halt and the player can choose to introspect themselves in that moment you can find the true feelings of this blank state character.

They’ve got themselves to ruin, they’re in that dark moment in their life and they don’t know what to do. They honestly dissapointed their family and all their friends left them for it. They don’t know how to climb the social ladder since that position was given to them since birth, they don’t know how to fend off themselves since their spoilt their entire lives and they certainly can’t use their useless gossiping and leisure skills to make a living can they?

Even if they want to make their uncle and aunt proud they can’t because well, to them MC is just a failure and I think because they’re constantly called a failure in their life they somehow… become one. It’s kinda like the idiom “Be careful with what you say” because you don’t know what your words’ effect have on people. MC probably absorbed the idea that they ARE a failure from a very young age and up until now they still wholeheartedly believe so. This as a result made their scandal hit them harder since they’ve probably think they are an idiot and are just waiting for the big moment to screw up. And, once they did… they truly believe that they ARE that idiot and truly can’t recover from this. They don’t see their own merits just like Rory, who up until adulthood still believe they’re a dumb unless Tally Ho MC encourages them.

( I wonder how many idle aristrocrats are like them. They have the spark but they don’t see it because their society has failed to nurture their talents. And, how many potential drivers of the future have been halted or ruined because of this?)

Now that I think of it these casts of misfits fit PERFECTLY with each other as they can play off with each other well. You can even do narrative foils with the ROs due to how similar and diffrent they all are.

Basically, They’re the embodiment of “they’re confused but they got spirit” except in a much more comedic setting.

Anyways, that’s all I can ramble for now. And, I’m sorry to waste your time with this HUGE comment. Hope you guys have a great day (and, don’t for what ever reason DON’T click MC’s tab unless you want to become sad or keep the idea of being a loveable goof)

I think Pilcrows says you didn’t post the letter. You have to actually go to the post office.

ooooh… How do we get there anyways? or send the letter?

i’m not sure there’s an option to actually post the letter but i could be wrong. i assumed that if you wrote the letter you will eventually post it.

You gotta leave the coffeeshop early enough to reach Cadbury’s early, then you get some free time to do misc stuff like posting the note, preparing interview questions, and such.

I can confirm that Tabby is met in the coffeeshop, which you have to leave your home without being pursued in the first place to even get to find.

Ah… I see, I’m too distracted talking to Ambrose and trying to get him to not suspect me being Guy Fox

The post office is in the hub area you reach after getting rid of your pursuers :slightly_smiling_face:. The coffee shop is also there, and you can calibrate how much time you spend inside it, chatting with Tabby.

I’m not so sure, but usually, if the MC reaches that hub a bit too late, they might head for the Cadbury Club instantly. You have to go 15 minutes earlier to make it to the job interview on time. I don’t have the exact numbers, but I think Vyv’s adventure in Chapter 1 might be one of the longer ones, which would explain why your MC always seems to show up in the nick of time. Hopefully that clears things up a bit.

In the spirit of my own Britpicking feedback on the game itself: the narrator might be reminded that “new” is pronounced “nyoo,” not “noo.”

@Gower I have a question. What is the maximum amount of evil we can do in the game?

You can wear spats to brunch. I offer that merely illustratively. That level, though.

I don’t think I’ve laughed nearly enough this year, but just the first chapter of the demo has more than made up for any missed quota. So very, very excited for the release later! Less than a third of a day to go!! (Also, Fitzie’s comments/casual roasting of my Tally Ho MC at times had me wheezing.)

Minor Pronoun Error

Forgot to get a screenshot, but there’s a moment somewhere during the interview where the phrase “Fitzie crosses him arms angrily” makes an appearance? I think it was during the question about Starling.
