Jolly Good: Cakes and Ale Free-for-All Discussion Thread Where Spoilers May Appear

Ahh!!! Congrats!! I’m really excited even though we have to wait for a while. 2020 is a good year so far with all my favorite titles coming out this year.

November can’t come fast enough… :face_with_monocle:

Damn, I read the upcoming games list and got 2 bad need. Cakes and Ale will only come at the end of the year and Tales of Two Cranes will not come this year :pensive:.

It took me a bit to find the listing – @Gower – you hid it with the “Jolly Good” part of the title …

Maybe, edit the Thread’s title to reflect the full title, so those as slow as I am are not confused down the road? Just a thought.

I remember that just before playing Tally Ho I had watched the film Remains of The Day with Anthony Hopkins. I tried to do a butler like Stevens, no emotions or personal values to thwart a servant’s job.

Can’t wait for November!

Just before writing Tally Ho, I read The Remains of the Day, and that story was very much in my mind as I wrote it!

Hooray for reaching the end goal, Gower! Take your time doing as many revisions as you want on the game before launching it (or taking a break after writing more than a million words); I’ll wait for it until whenever, and I’m sure the everybody else on the thread would too.

It it setting up to be one of my favorite years, too. Ironheart, Mask of the Plague Doctor and The Aegis Project are definite purchases, I think.

Tally Ho is one of my favourite CoG titles ever, and to know that Cakes and Ale is coming soon (relatively) makes me want to dab my tears of joy with a dapper handkerchief. Thank you @Gower for your hard work; you are incredible. Watching the word count climb up made my heart tap-dance.

That is to say, I’m absolutely fascinated with the Neolithic hand axe scandal. It’s so charmingly ridiculous, I’m curious to see what are our reasons for stealing. My first thought was that a party-going MC lost a bet, but surely there are multiple options. Someone who is idealistic and a little bit of a nerd would attempt to rescue the axe from the tasteless display case and the godawful humidity.

Or it was a dare… After a… hum… wild party with a lot of alcohol and stupid ideas, it could be a conséquence.
Imagine waking up with it and don’t remember stealing it… Or even what is it…

I actually confused a bet with a dare. Not being a native English speaker is hard, haha. So I absolutely agree with you, could be a dare. Hungover-induced amnesia is a nice touch, too!

Or a very clueless MC could have stolen the axe for a different reason.
‘How did you find the exhibition, sir?’
‘Jeeves, I do not understand modern art these days. They even displayed a rock. Look, it’s just a plain grey stone! Outrageous.’
‘If I may ask, sir – did you turn left or right upon entering the museum?’
‘Right, I guess. Does it make a difference?’
‘I believe so, sir. To the left was the exhibition of late Cubism, to the right was the exhibition dedicated to prehistoric tools.’
‘Oh…’
‘Indeed, sir.’

And we are in beta! Thanks for all of the support on this thread up to this point. I don’t know if I could have gotten to this point without all of you.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I look forward to sharing this with you!

Congrats on reaching the final beta step @Gower!

I am resisting the urge to test because I enjoy your titles so much that I want to be selfish and experience everything on the day I purchase your game.

Even with that said, my door is always open if you ever need/want targeted feedback of any nature – I hope that did not need saying, but I wanted to make sure you knew I was and will always be in your corner to support your efforts.

Congratulations on entering the beta phase!! I’m torn between wanting to beta test it and wait for the finish product. Either way, looking forward to it very much!

Congrats on climbing the impossible hill! Like many, I’m thorn between saving myself for November when the game is all gold and polish and just going in on it while it’'s fresh off the oven. Well, now that my college started, I don’t think I can turn up feedback fast enough. To read the great works of ChoiceScript or power your way through academic papers, truly one of life’s big dilemmas.

Well, I think any game would be lucky to have you two as testers to sand off the edges.

Sorry tiny bit off topic, I have a question about beta testing can I pm you?

If I ever did most of it would consist of descriptions of cute guys and gay porn anyway. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Probably the same except the gay part lol
