Interest Check Thread

Kobe, Japan, 1991. The economic bubble burst and your failure to pay your dues to the yakuza forces you to join them under bonded debt. How dear were the days you left behind to you? Will you embody the chivalrous ideal and look out for your community from the other side of the law? Or, perhaps more true to life, turn a blind eye and show your newfound “brothers” you have the grit and mettle to make it in the underworld? Either way, understanding will be hard to come by. Be prepared to convey your way of life through your fists.

Just know yours isn’t the only life in your hands: the boss entrusts you with the care of a brittle young man fresh out of prison. Be his hero or lead him down a dark path—or both.

  • Gender-locked as male with a set background for now. I’m not sure I’ll stick with ChoiceScript, so I want to limit my scope.
  • It’s (hopefully) not going to feel as binary to play as it sounds here, but also not a power fantasy. Because you already screwed up coming into the start of the story and your world is ultimately be no bigger than your city, your “family,” and your buddy, I wanted choices to have more depth than breadth (i.e. really feel like you’re affecting your world in small, cumulative ways) and to take a more intense, adult-oriented tone.
  • “Chivalrous” and “True to Life” playstyles are nods to the two main genres of yakuza movies; I would love to expand on that with other genre staples.

That’s about all that comes to mind. Probably an acquired taste given how most COGs play and I’m not the best at getting my ideas across, but thanks so much for reading!

Working on a demo and having some trouble with coding (not a coder, but I’m trying). But I’m writing a story set in the same world as my indie comic:

Welcome to Trotter’s Creek, a quiet tourist town where diners gossip, cabins creak, and the lake swallows secrets. You arrive as The Writer, a prime‑time TV producer retreating with your teenage daughter, Heather. But fame won’t save you here.

Behind the small‑town smiles lies a legacy of disappearances, corruption, and something monstrous moving through the woods. Chains rattle in the rain. Shadows stretch across the cabins. Every choice you make decides whether you uncover the truth… or become part of the secret.

This is an Interactive Fiction narrative horror RPG where your choices shape every encounter. Build trust, uncover lore, or run for your life as you navigate Trotter’s Creek’s gossip‑ridden diners, corrupt law enforcers, and haunted trails. Heather is watching, and the town is listening.

Set in the world of “Curly the Cursed Con Man”, Trotter’s Creek explores an earlier story where a younger Duane Henslow and his brother Joseph investigate the disappearance of a hiker. Their path crosses yours and you decide whether to join their quest or stay out of trouble.

“You came here to escape the spotlight. Instead, you’ll fight to survive it.”

You can either pop a question to the forum as a whole, go to the writer’s support thread or join the very cool and very helpful writer’s discord server that @Skorak created.

Thanks for the tip mate!

I wanted to ask how do you make a hosted game book because I wanted to make one about a fighting career think fight night champion x ufc career mode, I would add things like press conferences, days leading up to the fight, lifestyle choices, rivalries to pursue, how others would see you a trash talker like Conner or calm like khabib, but yea you get it tho

Firstly, are you on pc or mobile. Because you will have to get the choicescript IDE and then it’s as simple, as coding and writing it.

Mobile

Then, you will be looking for this specifically https://www.reddit.com/r/hostedgames/comments/1oz62hu/choicescript_android_editor_released.

Personally, I have no experience using it, and so you will have to ask other people on this forum or reddit for assistance.

Dragon of Steelthorne: War Sky
(Yes, I picked this because I don’t have a lot of options with the 30-character limit.)

The sequel to Dragon of Steelthorne was entered in Introcomp 2025, where it won 3rd place. Anyway, I’m planning to resume work on this soon.

The Alenian Empire has built steam-powered planes, allowing people to take to the skies. Meanwhile, a succession crisis brews in the Empire’s leadership as three members of the Royal Family fight for the throne.

But where do you stand in all this? As a young noble from the legendary Steelthorne House, you are given control of a large Skyport near Lake Steelthorne, placing you at the forefront of the Alenian technological revolution. Adventure awaits as you take to the skies in your own state-of-the-art biplane.

Work together with a new cast of companions. A confident and sassy noblewoman, an Alenian prince learning the ropes, a diplomat and princess from Jhou lands and a flight engineer from the city of Freehold. Find love and excitement as you take them on new misadventures.

Support one of the three candidates, gain the blessing of the Dragon Gem, possibly gain the throne, and decide the course of the Empire’s future.

You can try the incomplete version on Introcomp. As with the first game, this will be a steampunk-fantasy game with management and battle elements. And romances.

The reason why I’m posting this here, is to get suggestions on what to do with the complete version. I can submit this to HG or submit this to the intfiction Spring Thing contest. Or I can do both. Thoughts?

I’m leaning towards putting the full game on the Spring Thing and later releasing it on itch for free, but I’d like to hear opinions.

  • Submit to Hosted Games. Run an open beta for the full game.
  • Enter it in the Spring Thing and release it for free later.
  • Enter a limited version in the Spring Thing and submit a full version to Hosted games. Closed beta by necessity.

Ok, thanks everyone who voted.

Unfortunately, interest is admittedly quite low for this one. I think I’ll probably just wrap up the story and release it on the Spring Thing, and consider a HG release if things start to pick up later.

The Fruit of the Damned is an upcoming 18+ romantasy interactive fiction game.

The eight Divine created the world. They agreed to split the world between them and ruled in peace for years until the dark one got too greedy. He started a war and left the world in chaos. Shivani, the last of the divine, used the rest of her life force to craft the sanctification stone, bestowing it on a human, Erros. Together, they tricked the dark one, sealing him into the crossroads using the Sanctification stone, and Erros became the first human king.

Centuries later, anyone with a shred of magic is dubbed “maleficarum" and is hunted and executed by the order of the light, a band of human warriors sworn to protect humanity against the dangers of mages and magic. Any mage left went into hiding, eventually forming hidden communities, called counts.

You are one of the mages of a covunt in Valdemar, the most powerful nation in the 3 kingdoms and the most oppressive towards mages. Your life so far has been hard but as peaceful as it can be for your kind, until your twin— a seelie, someone who speaks to the divine and can tell the future through brief visions, sees what they believed was the dark one rising once again. Hoping to prevent that and give the mages a better name, they go on an expedition to retrieve the Sanctification stone from the palace, where it lies in King Erros tomb. The problem? Everyone knows that any mage who goes into the palace never comes back.

For two months, you receive letters from your twin all detailing their failure in finding the first king’s tomb, however, one day, the letters stop coming, and they vanish.

Now, it has been 6 months since you last heard from your twin. You’re finally accepting that you may never see them again- until you find the last letter, dated 3 weeks past

“You must get out of Valdemar as soon as you can, whatever you do, do not come find me. You must not set foot into the palace, or you will doom us all.”

Desperate to save your twin and aid in their plight, you decide to go against their wishes and enter the palace to find them. The palace is however, notorious for keeping its doors shut to outsiders. You just need an in, and lucky for you, you are given one. The heir of Valdemar K will soon rise to the throne, in order to do this, he must be soul-bonded to the winner of the games of Etheris, a set of trials taking place in the palace to find a fit partner and ruler for the heir. All are allowed in, but only one can win. Thrust into a competition for the crown in the one place no one of your kind dares to enter, you must remember your mission to save your twin and possibly the world. And whatever you do… do not fall in love.

Will you help stop the world from burning into ash, or will you allow yourself to burn with it?

[ROMANCE OPTIONS]

KASTIAN/KASMINA - THE HEIR [He/Him|She/Her]

“I am completely and utterly at your disposal, if you wish me to jump off into the Lukrus river / will. You can call me pathetic, idiotic, or rash just as long as you also call me yours.”

The future ruler of Valdemar, with a heart of gold and a smile warm enough to melt even the roughest of exteriors, it’s no surprise they have people lining up for a chance to be theirs, but don’t forget the road to damnation is always paved with good intentions

LEON - THE BASTARD [He/Him]

“You haunt my every breath, my dreams, my desires- Not a day goes by without you consuming my entire being. I beg of you to release me from whatever purgatory you’ve cast me into, for there is only destruction in my future, and I cannot- will not allow you to follow me on this path of ruin.”

The cold-hearted half-brother of K. He’s hated by the masses, dubbed ‘the monster’ for his ugly face and even uglier past. Will you be the one to finally melt the ice surrounding him, or will you become just another shadow in his memory? Remember, monsters are made, not born.

MERIK/MERILA - THE EXECUTIONER [He/Him|She/Her]

“I gave up on love the moment I took the cloth and swore my oath. I never once thought I’d regret it but for the first time in my life, I’m tempted to throw it all to hell in exchange for a taste, one taste of your lips. For as much as I loathe it, you and only you will be my ruin.”

The general of the order of the light and the right hand of the heir. There is no man nor woman as devout to the testament of the divine as them. So many have of yours have died by their hands, can you forgive them, or will you seek revenge? After all, only blood can answer blood.

SERO/SERA - THE LIAR [He/Him|She/Her]

“If this is doomed to fail, then I am prepared to fall, as long as it is you I’m falling with.”

A fellow competitor whose face reveals nothing and mouth even less. Like you, they seem to be here for other reasons than to wear a crown. But will they be an ally or a hindrance to your quest? Only time can tell, lest you forget what you don’t know can’t kill you.

JASIRA - THE PRINCESS [She/Her]

"Nothing matters but us. The world can crumble for all I care, As long as we are together, my heart is full. "

The princess of Ceridwen and another competitor in the trials. She’s an adventurous spirit with a sweet disposition.

This trial will be the first time she steps out of her gilded cage, and unfortunately for you, she chooses you as her first friend. Will you let her fall or help her fly? Keep in mind appearances can be deceiving.

CIAN - THE PURIST [He/Him!

“It would be unwise to resist me, little flame. I am the only one who truly sees you, the only one who can save your soul and cleanse it from the sickness that plagues it. Bend the knee and I promise I’ll be gentle.”

K’s uncle and guardian. Everyone you meet will tell you to stay away from him. His cruelty knows no bounds, and neither does his hatred for magic. From the moment you step foot into the palace, he chooses you as his victim for torment, but the question is why? Does he know what you really are, or are you truly that unlucky to have caught his eye? In the end, everyone knows victory favors the merciless.

Just going to check if anyone would be interested in this:

Defending The Damned

When monsters started crossing into our world, the first response was military.

The second was legal.

Someone has to decide:

who counts as a person

what counts as self-defense

whether summoning a demon is terrorism or immigration

That someone might as well be you.

You are a defense attorney representing creatures from the other dimensions in human courts.

hi hi! was wondering if there’s an interested audience here for a game ala tokimeki memorial and the persona series (i.e. stat raiser meets dating sim + may or may not have supernatural and combat elements if my brain power makes up space for it in the plot)

set in and inspired by one of my favorite real-life cities (and its many ghost stories :eyes:), you play a high school student who temporarily moves from the huge metropolis to live in a smaller town with a relative while your parents take up a job opportunity somewhere far away. you reunite with a few childhood friends you haven’t seen in almost a decade, but they seem hellbent on avoiding you. you’re hurt by this, of course, but accidentally stumbling upon the reason why they choose to do so opens up a completely new and scary world for you to explore with them.

It sound interesting so far! I have no reference to those games you mentioned, but the small blurb you wrote seems fun

Hey everyone, there is something I would really like to know. Do you think there may be any interest in a story that would only have female characters as romance options or do you think something like that wouldn’t find much interest here?

Sorry if this question doesn’t really fit into this thread, but I wasn’t sure where else I could ask this.

In general, the wider variety of ROs the more likely the general audience will enjoy the experience of your game. You can do that by making a roughly equal amount of male and female ROs, or by making some or all ROs gender variable.

But just because the general audience would prefer that, doesn’t mean you have to do it. You won’t get as many readers, but you’ll still get people interested.

If your goal is to be as successful as possible, you’ll want male ROs. If your goal is to make your game as good as possible, and let whoever likes it like it, then go with the original idea.

Personally, the stuff I’m working on only has male ROs. That’s not going to get a lot of clicks, but hopefully people will like it

I’d certainly be interested, though I love women. I haven’t read it yet, but the Jane Austen-themed Autumn Winds WIP only has female ROs. You can find it here: Autumn Winds - A Pride and Prejudice adaptation (81K Words)

Do what you want to write, sure it wouldn’t pull the larger audiences like gay men and straight women, but in theory they should be gay woman and straight men that would read. (largely depends on the plot of the story and execution.)

Always wanted to make something in the vein of the older Otomate games I’ve played in the past, but I’m not much of an artist, so I’ve thought of making one myself through the IF medium! Another idea I don’t think I’ve seen explored that much in the games I love is Swan Lake.

For those interested in games with a genderlocked female protagonist and all-male love interests would you rather be…

  • …The Swan “Princess” fighting to regain her humanity? (In this case, you’re the equivalent of Odette from the original ballet.)
  • …The Crown Princess persuaded into breaking a most peculiar curse? (In this case, you’re the equivalent of Siegfried from the original ballet.)
