I love that idea and hope to see your game. Also, that “inspiration” list, daaamn.
i am unsure what the actual plot of this is, but perhaps that is cuz of my reading abilities. i quite like it, i have not seen many IFs that focus on dreams and stuff like that. am interested to see the mystery behind it all, and how the mc fits into this global epidemic that is going on. very good!!
To quote DWMU :
PALADINS SUCK !
BATTLE MAGES RULE !
okay, so the TLDR is this: the 2 mysterious figures are trapping people into the world of dreams. you discover this due to your medical condition making you sleep much more often than other people. strangely, you are immune to the comatose condition. you can resolve to save everyone with the power of love and friendship… or not, you can also be complicit in their plans once you figure out L and Lane’s motivations.
thank you for the nice comments, i appreciate it a bunch! i hope to combine my love for dream analysis and character-focused narrative into something fun :))
oh in that case, butter me intrigued! definitely am looking forwards to that story being told. i especially love character-focused IFs, so you already have my heart!
Hi, so I’m still working on my assassin WIP but I’m tryna brainstorm for the final part and i got this idea that popped into my head that I’m just kinda placing here for future me to maybe consider and see if any of yall find it interesting?
When tragedy strikes and you find your loved one on death’s door with no way to prevent it, you find yourself begging for any help. *Any. * And when the devil offers to prevent it. You hurriedly agreed, willing to do anything to keep them alive. But with any deal of his comes a twist.
You have to relive the deaths of your ancestors and prevent them from meeting their own grizzly ends.
-
Try your best to survive a seemingly endless loop of death using information gained from each failed attempt to try and cheat death.
-
Fight through the plains of northern Italy as a Roman soldier, survive the brutal napoleon march into Moscow, and surpass all odd over the fields of France as part of the 101st.
-
Will you manage to maintain your sanity through it all. Or will you wither and return to your loved one a completely changed person?
Waddya all think?
You have me here.
But seriously this sounds interesting. Vaguely reminds me of early assassin’s creed games.
I’d like to propose a title to add to my ever expanding library of WIPs
Schetman - The Jewish Sport
Take the shoes of a young Jewish basketball player during the birth of the NBA! Watch as Ossie Schetman scores the first basket in league history! The Philadelphia Sphas become one of the first NBA teams under a new name the Philadelphia Warriors. Take your chance to fight anti-semitism and become one of the best players in the world!
Oh oh! your words have ignited a fire within my soul!! very interesting premise and i adore stories that use their narrative style as vital ingredient in the grand feast of immersion, if that makes sense? either way, your taste is exquisite! desperation and the allure of making questionable choices for noble intentions, it’s a recipe for the perfect delectable bread!
i may not be one to don a jersey and engage in athletic pursuits, but I do appreciate the artistry that lies within a unique and captivating perspective; a hidden gem among a sea of baguettes! may the pages of the story unfold before you like a delicate pastry
Ok, so just wondering, how many people like riddle games? In Phantasmagoria, the next chapter (not yet released) has an area where the guardian requires that you can win your way through in one of three ways: gift, sacrifice, or challenge. The challenge is a riddle competition that you have to answer correctly.
So my question is, how many people enjoy guessing riddles? I was thinking about coding in a mini game accessible from the start page once you’ve completed the game once to allow players to guess at the riddles they didn’t try during the game as I’ve got more than you can answer in a single play through (and could try to think of some more to add if making it into a mini game.) It’s not just an ask a riddle get an answer situation. You’ve got some banter with the guardian, option to get hints etc.
Is that something people would find fun to play?
- Yes riddles are fun but I don’t want to have to play through the whole game to see them all
- Riddles are fun but I wouldn’t want a mini game with them.
- Nah, riddles are boring.
@Jacic I enjoy riddles myself, but not everyone does. They can be frustrating, especially since clues are so often obvious to the writer and not so obvious to readers/players. I’d make sure any riddle you use has its solution easily searchable online for them. Never underestimate the player’s ability to make something more complicated than it is or to take something simple into an entirely different direction.
In the game itself there is the option to avoid them entirely by going down the gift or sacrifice routes, but for those who want them there’s a hint system with extra clues, the ability to turn on extra hints automatically like the first letter of the word or how many letters the word has, or you can be given the answer if you don’t want to guess at all. I find them fun too, but don’t want anyone to not be able to get past the chapter if they can’t guess one
I don’t mind riddles, they can be fun. But as a non native English speaker (and as someone with dyslexia) they can be frustrating (especially when it’s a typebox option). Some of the text based riddles in Relics 2 nearly made me rage quit the game. Maybe you can include a list with answer to choose from after an x amount of failures while typing in the answers and/or getting hints without results?
Someone else just suggested the option list on another thread. I do actually have a toggle on the stats menu where you can tell the game just to give you the answer if you like (I don’t want anyone to have to rage quit! It’s meant to be fun not frustrating.)
I’ll see how hard it’ll be to have to add a separate option to keep or remove the textbox in favour of clickable options instead. (It might be something else I could potentially toggle from the stats menu if the code doesn’t get too messy.)
Thanks for responding everyone. That’s actually kind of interesting that we’ve gotten almost a clear split down the three responses although if you take into account that 2 options wouldn’t want a minigame, that’s 2/3 against it.
Just as an extra thought, what if it also had a mini story attached that happens after the main game? (The minigame would be locked until the game had been played through once to avoid spoilers). You can ask some of the characters a few more questions/interact with them, possibly win something of their affections… or not. You might just want to be rid of the whole lot of them and the final award could be that they have to leave you alone and stop haunting your dreams. Or maybe you want a hellhound released from the underworld as pet to take home. (Who knows how that would go. Doesn’t seem like a great idea but its your choice lol). I don’t know, but it wouldn’t just be a “here’s some questions, give the answers”. Would that change anything? Or not really?
- Yes, it it had more of a story the I’d like a riddle mini game.
- No, I’m really not interested in a riddle game regardless.
- Maybe, but only if there was the option to have preselected answers rather than free text entry
Who’s a good boy?
Thanks everyone who voted Looks like quite a split there, but even if half the players are interested then it’s worth me making the minigame as it shouldn’t be a big extra job to add in to the start menu. That way it’s completely optional for those that don’t want it as well. I could also put an optional setting in to change it to preselected choices (so players can choose free text entry with or without extra hints) or a normal choicescript button press from a few different possible answers) and just see what the feedback is like on a riddle game set up that way.
Wont have the mini game (or chapter with the choice of challenges including a riddle contest) up quite yet, but hopefully not too far off. When it’s updated anyone interested in this sort of thing I’d love to hear if it looks like it’s working ok or if it needs something changed to look ok.
You know, I don’t think he’s been given a proper name. Maybe I need to change that
Would anyone be interested in a realistic historical fiction where a player is a Union officer in the American Civil War? You would start as a regimental officer in the early war and work your way up to command of a division or corps, where you can make real impact on real life historical battles.
For those following my main game, Manticore, have no fear. I am going to keep working on that game, but I have been dealing with crazy writer’s block, so I’m starting another project to bounce back and forth between. This game would be less ambitious because it’s more like my usual type of writing and I don’t have to invent the whole setting, events, and characters from scratch.
Your humble and affectionate servant,
Dan Rasmussen.
I would like a civil war IF, there’s barley any IF about it here (for obvious reasons)
Also would we be able to choose what type of units we would be able to lead like infantry, cavalry, and artillery
