Interest Check Thread

While the two ideas sound interesting,I will have to go with the second one since I prefer to play as a female. However it’s your choice and whatever you choose to go for,I will play it anyway cause I am bored these days.

Personally I would be interested in either of them, although the Greek concept does interest me more personally.
If you going for wide appeal though I imagine the second concept would would be far better suited for that due to the setting being able to more easily accommodate certain expectations the community has for IF such as multiple genders and such, but honestly just do whatever you’re most interested in as im sure they would both garner attention.

Finally got Internet back, damned mountain roads, well I want to try both, it is just choosing what to do first, both are stories that I already have written, just not in code and with multiple options, they are both campings in DnD that I mastered being the greek one more fleshed out character wise as it was more role played thant dice focused.
The second one is extremely ambitious as it is a story that I have been dragging with my friends since 2012 xP the world is massive and the options would be many, either case what I truly want is making something that have many ramifications, probably should do something more simple as first try, but we will see.

Thanks, the greek story is a bit of a take on a tragedy it isn’t meant to end good for any of the character involved, obviously the story would be changed to give a satisfactory resolution for every player. However I think that as a first try should probably go for the more inclusive story.

Hey people, an idea for a story is stuck in my head, so I’m just gonna leave this here… for feedback and stuff.

The Rain Washes All Away
[cyperpunk, sci-fi, low fantasy]

Rain always stops. It always stops. It always does. It is what makes it beautiful — its brevity making us long for it once it is gone. But this rain is different. This rain is forever. It pours down on the city relentlessly. It weeps its sorrow upon the Osean Peoples, reminding them that this life, this world, will never let up.

summary

The Rain Washes All Away is a story set in the lawless capital of no-man’s-land — Osea the flooded city — on an Earth rebuilt after the apocalypse, where those responsible for the end of the world — the Weathered, a winged people with the ability to manipulate the weather — are hunted like animals by poachers collecting their debt to humanity, their wings cut off as trophies.

You take on the role of a seasoned Weathered mercenary who’s lived their entire life hiding in plain sight, drifting from job to job, hunting your brothers and sisters in the employ of the debt collectors to escape their greedy clutches. You’re far past redemption, but when an anonymous contractor hires you to find the infamous Weathered revolutionist hunted by the ruthless Connoisseur of Oddities running an underground trafficking ring, an opportunity to do at least one thing right in your life presents itself.

Will you take it or forever hold your piece?

features
  • Choose who you are: gender, sex, appearance, and personality, and experience the world react differently towards you depending on this
  • Choose how you feel about your wings and prosthetic limb — do you nurture a deep hatred for yourself or those who demonise you?
  • Forge connections between a diverse cast of characters of all backgrounds, friends, foes, family and lovers
  • Get even further involved in the dangerous underground of Osea, either willingly or by payment
  • Participate in a revolution as both the oppressor and the oppressed in a world where you are a pariah even to your own people
  • WIP
characters

(LIs are written in bold)

Saon Hanna / in his mid-thirties / man

The tactless mechanic you’ve been working with throughout recent years. He’s an eccentric type, staying as far away from norms as he does the law.

Naomi de Rossa / in her early-thirties / woman

A mysterious woman with unclear intentions who knows too much and reveals too little. She’s hired you to find and retrieve Loveless before they’re caught by poachers.

Seal / unknown / unknown

A person of great renown, they’re said to be the head of a big underground smuggling cartel, although not much is known about them.

Killjoy / in his mid-thirties / man

Seal’s right hand man who dons a constant scowl. He’s feared in both the upper city and the underground, carrying out Seal’s dirty work.

Loveless / in their late-twenties / gender selectable m/f/nb

The wanted Weathered revolutionist on the run from the Connoisseur and your new rescue target. They’ve stirred up the hornets nest of the most powerful people of Osea fighting for what they believe, and now the world wants them dead for it.

Winona/Winnie / in their late-twenties / gender selectable m/f

Your idealistic younger sibling for whom you’ve taken on the role of protector, although they continue to insist they need no such thing of you.

romance

I’m a sucker for IF romance as much as the next person, and it would be my intentions to include it in large degrees if I choose to see this project through. Although I also want to give the player the options to be an emotionless prick who can’t form deep connections and just sleeps around lol.

I appreciate all kinds of input you may have :))

I’m currently working on an interactive fiction that’s very “game-y”. There’s a central gameplay loop that revolves around going on expeditions into “the Tunnel”. Story events occur based on triggers (such as finding a certain trinket in the Tunnel that turns out to be cursed) rather than being based one “where you are in the story”.

Of course, this is very different from the usual Choice of Games style, so I was wondering if this is something others in these parts would enjoy.

For more details:

  1. The Tunnel is divided into layers. As you progress through the game, you will unlock later layers.
  2. The game is not tied down to any particular systems. Sometimes your skill in something is just a number, other times you either got it or you don’t, and yet other times I’ll have a fully-fledged skill point tree for certain actions. It all depends on what is most appropriate.
  3. A lot of the game is just designed to be “big” for the sake of it. It’s meant to feel more like exploring a world that slowly opens up to you than reading through a book, and there’s a lot of focus on freedom in how you go about that.
  4. The narrative style is focused on clarity to make that "big"ness I just mentioned easier to swallow. Gameplay features open up quickly, but not all at once, and there are marked differences between “narrative” passages and mechanics passages.

I’ve made a Tumblr page and post about my IF idea, if anybody wants to know more, here’s the link: Diamond Nightingale IF on Tumblr .
Edit: fixed the link, it should work now.

That sounds really intriguing!

I started making a game but it’s weird so not sure if anyone would even play it lol.

It’s called Pugland: Chief of Staff, taking place place in an alternate Cold War era universe, where people are… pugs. You are born in occupied Pugland (Darn Rupugssian Pugs), you will experience the dreary world through your pug’s eyes, molding him into the perfect (or not so perfect) politician. During your midlife crisis, the Soviet Pugnion collapses in violent fashion, leaving you and your best friend Bambi to lead Pugland into an uncertain future. As Chief of Staff you will botch foreign policy, sleep through budget meetings, pacify unruly politicians and lobbyists, craft meaningless legislation, drunkenly write speeches, hire imbeciles, embezzle funds, and more.

Any interest or ideas? Thanks.

So, I’ve been reading a lot of IF in the past couple of years and decided to write something myself. Kinda scared, because it’s been a while since I published my writing online, besides english is not my first language. I read a lot in english, fiction in particular, but never tried my hand in writing on it… Now, about the story:

Synopsis

You are one of the druids, attuned to nature, able to see things others cannot and wield magic unattainable for ordinary people. Your kind was once immortal, but no more. Now a human must be initiated once in a while, to make sure your people never cease to exist. Farmers, artists and nobles alike must undergo a ritual and be bound to nature once a mark appears on their skin. Only royal families were safe from this fate due to an agreement made with druids long ago. Until now.

The mark blooms on the skin of the crown princess. Goddess of nature has made her decision and the ritual must be performed. Only the royal family will never give up their heir. Consequences of their defiance will be dire, but the king refuses to see reason. Your people’s knowledge and beliefs are only superstitions to him.

You must find out why the centuries long agreement between your people and humans was broken. Become a Speaker, an agent of your clan, to regulate growing disagreements with other druids and the royal family. Partake in mystical rituals and uncover long forgotten secrets.

Features
  • Play as male or female; straight, gay, or bisexual.
  • Customize your appearance and choose your role in the clan: a Keeper, a Shadow or a Blade. It will determine your abilities and the way you’ll deal with the challenges ahead.
  • Romance one out of six characters: three male and three female.
ROs

LINETTE, the Princess
Golden hair and golden heart, the crown princess of Elrian shines from within. She is a fine warrior, though not so much a ruler. Linette’s stubbornness and righteous nature make her quite unpopular among the nobility. Despite that, everyone agrees she is still a better candidate for the throne than her brother. You haven’t met her before, but you will soon. You have to, for she is the one who’s fated to become one of your people. The princess doesn’t trust or understand the druids and the task of convincing her falls on you.

TRISTAN, the Prince
The prince is easy to like, but not so easy to read, with his slightly tilted head and playful gleam in intense green eyes. An amused smirk often dances on his lips, though there’s a hint of bitterness to it. Tristan plays many roles: a disappointment to his father, an annoying but beloved brother to his sister and a memory of a pleasant pastime to his lovers. As the princess gets dragged into the druid affairs, so does the prince. Unlike Linette, he’s fascinated with your people. Some around you think that things would be much easier if he was chosen instead.

DAIRAE, the Hunter
An easy, open smile reaches his brown eyes when you approach. You’ve known Dairae all your life, and whether you consider him your friend or not, there’s an air of mutual respect and understanding between you two. He accompanies you on your little adventures sometimes, a bow in his hand and keen eyes that notice things you would have missed. In the coming days there might come opportunities to strengthen your relationship or to alienate him for good.

KIERAN, the Seeker
You can recall the sound of his calm, monotone voice, but his features are starting to blur in your mind. Kieran left your clan a few years ago and no one explains why. He was an intelligent and curious soul, always improving his magic or exploring old ruins most would avoid. You never got to know him that well, for Kieran was always secretive and evasive. As the tensions between the druids and humans rise, the mysteries you’re trying to uncover will put you on a path Kieran once walked. As you follow his trails, you might learn more than you expected.

EINA, the Mystery
You feel her cold gaze pierce you like thousands of daggers, tearing you apart just to see what’s inside. Her lips curl into contemptuous smile when you approach and her eyes squint ever so slightly, like she’s laughing at some joke only known to her. Eina is always there, somewhere, watching your people – but mostly you – from afar, yet rarely approaching. It seems like she’s waiting for something, anticipation flickering in shining gray eyes. Some druids insist her appearance is a bad omen, though they never deign to explain why.

SEILANN, the Seer
Gifted with a power to see things others cannot, she is respected not only in her own clan but also in some of the others, including yours. Being a seer is a rare gift and an overwhelming burden, but Seilann takes all challenges that come with it in stride. She seems to be very wise for her age, or so other druids say. You’ve met her briefly several times, though nothing transpired between you two, expect for several shallow conversations. It’s going to change soon, when the seer’s visions will set in motion a crushing wave of events that will change the lives of your people forever.

Note

The way druids are portrayed is sort of my interpretation. There are all kinds of elves and vampires, whose characteristics vary from one piece of media to another, so I read about them and added some things from myself. Their appearance is also supposed to be different from ordinary humans, but I’ll elaborate on that some time later.

Ooh, I like the idea. Sounds like it might require a LOT of writing and coding, but my interest is piqued.

Yep, that’s certainly true. I’m approaching this as more of a “living project” at the moment. That is, I just write and see where it goes. I plan out a few overarching storylines, but for the most part the direction of the game has been “what could I improve at this moment in time, right now” rather than moving toward a predetermined goal. It’s an interesting strategy, but I think it’s working well for this project, especially considering it’s scope.

I’m almost done with a demo version that includes only the first layer. As it’s coming along, I’m worried that the style is too different from the usual CoG format, so I don’t know if it would even fit as a hosted game, but I’ll at least see what the feedback on this forum is like.

I’d definitely be interested in checking it out. Sounds very sandboxy, and that kind of explorative format can be a lot of fun.

Have you thought about what to call it?

I would play it.

Any more ideas about the features?

Yea I have most of the plot planned out, although I really suck at summing up points of the story into features :,)

I’ll update my post rn

I was considering changing the tone to be more serious and making it much more historical (rip Pugs), so it would feel like growing up in Cold War Poland and becoming the first Chief of Staff. There would still be light hearted moments, but it would be less weird lol. Would you guys prefer this or the pug version?

I like the silly pug version, but I would tone it don’t a little. Seeing the word “pug” every page would make me sick of it.
