I would be interested in check it out

So, first of all, sorry if this is kind of reviving an old thread (I don’t believe we’re supposed to do that…? this is my first post, I have no idea really), I don’t know the limit for the thread to be ā€œdeadā€ but I want to feel something out…

My story may fall into lines of fanfic (even though I tried my hardest to invent a new world) for a few different ā€œsupernaturalā€ stories on HG, so let me know and I’ll trash the idea (right now I only really have an outline, so don’t feel bad)

Anyway, my story has you in the role of an ā€œapprenticeā€ (really a glorified intern, one who gets field experience instead of coffee) for the Monster Peacekeeping Unit (MPU, name subject to change, I’m bad at names, so if you want you can recommend some). You are also a ā€œmonsterā€ who discovered what they were by accident when they were in the middle of robbery at a coffee shop as a kid. This led to you being inducted into ā€œmonster societyā€ and as the impressionable youth you were, you learned about the MPU and wanted to join. You never expected to be an apprentice when you signed up, but hey, you have to start somehow.

Now, onto ā€œracesā€ for your monster character (well, you can play kind of human, you’ll see)

  • Changeling - Changelings alter their form at will, they are truly gelatinous blobs. They are resistant to bullets, and in some cases, are even able to ā€œthrowā€ bullets back as a weapon

  • Ferox (not committed to the name, it’s wild in latin I believe…) - Ferox are basically humans with slight animal aspects. These usually relate to whatever animal they are (bears are hairy and incredible strong, hawks may feathers in place of hair, and have incredible vision, etc.)

  • Vampire - Do I really need to clarify? No offense, but hopefully you know what a vampire is if you got interested enough in reading through this after I labeled it ā€œsupernaturalā€ though mine won’t burn in sun, or anything crippling like that

  • Werewolves - See above, though in my version, they aren’t uncontrolled when turned

  • Ghouls - Some humans are born special, with the ability to come back after death. This event occurs once, though killing a ghoul is very difficult. Their nerves are almost dead, and thus feel little to no pain. They can survive long periods of time without blood. Though they are ā€œzombiesā€ they don’t necessarily (NECESSARILY) hunger for human flesh

  • Wraiths - Wraiths are essentially phantoms. They have the ability to phase into things, though this ability doesn’t extend to any force exerted upon them (for example, you can easily slap a wraith, but a wraith could say…reach into you and smash your heart…yeah, maybe I thought this one a little dark…)

  • Mind Benders (I really hope for a better name, either from me or any of you) - Mind Benders lack any real physical capability, though they can reach into one’s mind and alter it slightly. They can, for example, eliminate short term memory, but they can’t do anything like, blow up someone’s brain with a burst of psionic energy (too much D&D…ish…)

  • Hunter - Hunters are humans with a special gene. This gene causes them to develop combat skills of someone who trained for their whole life time by the time they are teens. Calling them ā€œhuntersā€ is perhaps a little rude though, as they do not actually have a latent thirst for monster blood (metaphorically of course). Studies have started into potentially replicating this process (though maybe not in this book, maybe not a good time to mention, but if this takes off, I kind of have a trilogy planned, kind of), in order to ā€œmail orderā€ a hunter.

Anyway, I feel a need to center a little on the main, and romancable characters, as I will be trying to make this a sort of romance (ish, I have very low confidence in writing this, but I’ll try). All RO’s will be ā€œgender interchangeableā€ (for lack of a better term) based on the player’s preference.

  • Shay/Shaye (Hunter) - Vigilante who occasionally helps the MPU, despite disliking them since they are ā€œtoo slow and indecisiveā€. Generally calm, but can be brash when angered (usually by murder). Believes in swift (occasionally very harsh) justice.

  • Ian/Isolde (Vampire) - Is the leader of the group that you are assigned to. Is somewhat gruff, rude, and quick to the point.

  • Adley/Adalia (Changeling) - Works for MPU as their infiltration expert (as the MPU prefers a more nonviolent way of solving problems). Is not at all forthcoming with information on past, and usually brushes off conversation.

  • Virgil/Vivienne (Ghoul) - Works for MPU as their negotiator. Is always against killing and advocates for nonviolent solutions.

  • Remmington/Reanne (Ferox, fox or cat based, I haven’t made up my mind yet) - Works for the MPU, is their stealth specialist (occasionally called assassin). Is very quick witted and sociable

  • Kaden/Kaelynn (Wraith) - Friend of the player, is greatly pleased to find out that the player allowed to know about monsters. Does not work for the MPU, but likes to help the player when possible

*Turner/Tabatha (Werewolf) - Is a low ranking member of the anti monster league (I’m really bad with names, but anyway, this is probably the group name of the main villain(s)

  • Well…This slot is for the main villain…but I’m not sure I should disclose anything, in case I actually write this, I may want to keep this secretish…But anyone, to sum up why this is here, I’ll be making the main villain a RO, but this may not happen in this book, Like I said, if this goes well, I’ve plan sequels

  • Luke/Lillith (Mind Bender) - Works for MPU as a ā€œreserveā€ member, and generally uses abilities to disorient, or pull jokes.

Maybe I should mention the drama of the story (since I can’t think of the actual writing term). Basically, you are the intern, and the team you are working with in the MPU gets pulled into a confrontation with a group that calls themselves the Anti Monster League. The League encompasses people who want revenge on monsters who got out of hand (as the MPU isn’t perfect at protecting everyone, of course), this means that their ranks don’t just involve humans, but also humans converted into monsters.

Anyway, let me know what you think, I’m sure I’m missing something that people would want to know, so feel free to ask and thank you for any consideration.

Maybe I haven’t played enough games on here but to me the idea sounds very appealing. I will admit, however, that I am a bit biased when people dangle non-human MCs in front of me.

Also, you’re not reviving an old thread, you’re using it exactly as it was intended to be used.

This is an interesting idea and I would look forward to ready/playing it

It sounds really cool. However, it still sounds like it wouldn’t hurt to polish it. I feel like the mc has to have some sort of falling out before of what’s happening, but of course that’s all up to you. I do hope that you’ll give some thought about making it. I get excited whenever someone’s making a new wip for hosted games. I like seeing what other people can ā€œimagĆnateā€.

What exactly do you mean? Like, I plan on making a sort of childhood biography to establish the character, and one of the options would be to kind of reject your monster (or of course hunter) heritage and try to act normal. Or, do you mean like, parent drama when you’re abilities are discovered, which I would find it kind of cruel for a parent to keep something like that, so I may go the orphan route for the MC…I haven’t decided for sure though yet. Do you mean something like the town rebelling once you undergo the discovery, which I’ve been trying to come up with a way for the MPU to come and clean up that mess (since depending on what monster you choose, may result in you killing the robber in the beginning, but really, this is all theories and outlines I’ve come up with), and preferably some way that doesn’t involve a mind wipe, as I feel this is kind of over used in the whole secret monster society thing. Sorry if I’m kind of rambling…I tend to do that a lot…

I personally think a few things that COG should do that would be cool would be:

  1. A game where your a king and have to run a kingdom basically face problems choose who to marry stuff like that war maybe.
  2. A free for all battle of some sort
  3. Maybe like civilization is dead and your on your own and you have to survive and rebuild it.
  4. I think there might be a game like this but maybe you get to play as the grim reaper or something similar, I cant think of any interesting plot points but this would be a pretty cool game

Regarding the first point, I feel like the recently released War for the West would scratch that itch.

And as for point three, I’m pretty sure I’ve played several WIPs with that premise.

I’m pretty sure the 4th was actually a fairly popular WIP in the last few years. Hopefully the author comes back to us

Hi everybody I’m not new to the forum and I have several WIPs that while I haven’t posted in a while are written but not coded due to my job however I’ve been toying with a new idea that is essentially combining WW1 with war of the worlds and so here’s my first pitch:

The year is 1917 after 5 and a half years of brutal combat the Allied Forces of Europe are facing their darkest hour. With the Russian Empire all but overrun, the French pushed back with mere miles separating the enemy from Paris. Meanwhile the brave men of His Royal Majesty’s British Expeditionary Force struggle to hold the line while the only thing keeping Britain from sharing Europe’s fate is the largest Armada ever created for the enemy is not the Kaiser but of the fourth planet from the sun, Mars. However Europe is not lost as the Kaiser’s war machine valiantly stands on the rivers Rhine and Oder; all the while reenforcements from America and Canada cross the Atlantic fresh from victorious campaigns in the Rockies and Mexico. This is where ur story begins as a fresh second lieutenant in the American Expeditionary Force. This is your story.

please let me know your thoughts, any questions comments and suggestions

Hi all, I’ve been a fan of these games for a long time and I tried my hand at coding my own game a few years ago but I lost interest in that specific story (and writing in general, for a while). I’ve always been a huge fan of historical fantasy, so I thought I’d try my hand at another game, a topic I’m much more interested in.

It’s not nearly ready for a demo, but my idea is this: The Legend of the NƻƱnë’hĆÆ.

I was heavily inspired by the book series/tv show Outlander, but I wanted to go in a slightly different direction with it. This game would center around Native American culture (specifically the Cherokee) and notably, the end of their traditional way of life, after the Trail of Tears. I realize how heavy of a topic that is, which is why I want to make sure I do lots and LOTS of research to do them the justice they deserve. That said, there will be quite a lot of fantasy elements, some of which I’ll be taking a little bit of artistic liberty with.

If you’re unaware, the Cherokee people believe in a supernatural spirit race called the NƻƱnë’hĆÆ, which are essentially the equivalent of faeries in European folklore, though there are many differences. Translated to English, the name essentially means ā€œThe People Who Live Anywhereā€ or simply ā€œThe People Who Live Foreverā€.

You will play as a modern day Cherokee, and after an encounter with the faeries, will be transported back in time to somewhere in the 1820’s. Although some things are set in stone, many believe the legends of the NƻƱnë’hĆÆ to be true. Some were said to have warned the Cherokee of the greatest catastrophe their people had ever known, and quite a few followed them into a beautiful cave deep in the mountains where they were able to escape the fate of the others who didn’t enter. According to the story, it was from that group of Cherokee that a small number of modern Cherokee that still live on their native land are descended from.

I’ll be delving into a lot of other interesting folklore so I’m really excited! I hope this interests some of you as well. Let me know what you think of it

Welcome back @DevilDog_1999 this idea looks awesome and I hope your able to continue with your old WIP’s as I remember them being very good as well and would love to see them developed.

This looks amazing. It’s a unique take on a piece of history and fiction that isn’t used often (outside of the aforementioned TV show) and I can’t wait to see how this goes

Hey y’all,

I’ve got a game I just started outlining, so the idea is still a little rough around the edges, but here goes.

You play as a somewhat naive young man or woman from a small, isolated village set in a generic medieval fantasy Europe analogue - relevantly, one where people largely believe that the world is flat and that you can eventually reach the edge.

Despite spending their entire childhood hearing about the horrors that lie beyond the boundaries of their village, your character has the spirit of an explorer, and has spent their childhood daydreaming about the outside world. They watch the sun rise and set every morning and evening, and over the years, they fall in love with the horizon.

On their seventeenth birthday, a travelling merchant brings word of an expeditionary force chartered to set sail to find the edge of the world, and to report back their findings. Your character decides to set out immediately.

Your character may or may not make it in time to join the expeditionary force, but regardless, it fails (because the earth is round) and your character ends up joining two other characters, each on journeys of their own (a young hero of prophecy who is supposed to bring peace to the land at a great personal cost, and a witty, opportunistic treasure hunter who always looks for the third option in a no-win situation).

Throughout the game, your character becomes a little less naive and a little more worldly and discovers that their fellow villagers weren’t wrong - there is great evil in the world. (They also discover that the world isn’t flat and that touching the horizon is impossible, but when people ask they still might still say that’s their quest because people love hearing about a good quest.) Your character periodically has opportunities to turn their back to the world, and to live a good life with wealth or family or whatever they desire, but even if they choose to settle down, they will become increasingly dissatisfied until they finally feel like their work is done.

The only stats I’ve decided on for sure is the naivety/worldliness stat, but I will figure out others as I design the game. Most likely, stats will end up being of secondary importance, while certain choices you make in the story could end up being very powerful later on.

I haven’t decided if I want to include romance, but if I do, both of your characters companions will be options, as well as several others.

Thoughts?

That certainly sounds like an interesting idea.

This feels a little railroady… Obviously every CS game will railroad the protagonist, otherwise the author would never finish it, but it feels like letting the player choose and then saying ā€œactually no, your character changed their mindā€ is highlighting the railroaded nature of the story far more than just forcing the protagonist to want to do it in the first place.

Well, I know that a lot of readers (myself included) do enjoy romance in stories, and if you’re travelling with these characters a lot, it probably makes sense that they be romanceable… But obviously it’s up to you; don’t feel pressured to add romance if you don’t want to.

Good luck with the game.

I don’t know anything about this Interest Check thing, but from what I can gather, this is a thread that you implement your ideas to the community and receive feedback?
I’m still debating but this is my ideal story base and timeline is that of:

ā€œThe Edo(Tokugawa) period of Japanā€
ā€œYour character is obviously a Rōninā€
ā€œPossible 1-3 Love interests (More later on as I figure out how to make a full game/s)ā€
ā€œPlayer chosen sex,race,religion,etcā€
:More at a later date

(To give you an idea of what the story will be like)
However not everything is as it seems, There will be a major plot twist, as the story may change upon release.

                 "Life as a Rōnin"

Imagine the loss of your family, due to your local lord who ordered the deaths of your family, you run, now lost and alone never to step foot back in your homeland. Only to grow up as an orphan, but later taken in by a master swordsman teaching you the ways of the Duel Katanas, to kill, and to let go. After the death of your teacher you are forced to leave home once again, now as a growing teenager nearing adult hood, you set off into the lands of Japan looking for work so that one day you may build up your strength and take revenge on the man that killed your family.
This story will be about Loss, Family, Friendship, Death, Trust, Belief, Romance, and above all Revenge. (etc)
