I wanna say I’ve been enjoying the game so far as at times its a real page turner but my god is the drama just so incessent and unrelenting. I expected something more in the vain of Choice of Rockstar but instead I got Love & Hiphop.
I don’t think I’m going to continue this as I’m at the point of just dreading reading another Black and Seven encounter.

I don’t now why its so hard for there to just be another music themed CYOA without all the bs added on to it

Eh, depends on your MC. Some would totally be like, “Mass fame, fuck yeah.”

Fairly sure the reason for Infamous high popularity is that added drama i.e. “the bs” as you chose to call it. It’s basically all that gets talked about, whenever the game is brought up, and it’s brought up often.

isnt the main reason for the drama all over the place is because its a TV reality show…keep up the great work author because I cant wait to get back to my moody irrational seven drama

You just have to approach it from the right angle to make it work. The first thing to understand is that the MC has a forced history wherein they proved to be a disloyal shit who refused to stand by the one person in the world who ever really cared about them. The fact that this is forced and is the foundation of the entire story should tell you all you need to know.

It doesn’t matter if they voted to “keep” Seven or not, they’re still disloyal and horrible for betraying their bff/lover. They literally don’t deserve anything good to happen to them, so when something does, karma will come back and bitch slap them in the face with a sledgehammer.

Yes, almost all of the characters are unstable, unhinged, self-absorbed, cruel, sadistic, and/or irrational, but MC is the villain of the story, which is why they are constantly tortured by the narrative and other characters. It’s why anything good that happens to them is almost immediately ruined (get into the competition? get called a cheater and have your accuser join the competition, too! win the first competition? get ruined even more by videos of a situation of which you had no control!). But MC deserves it, because they are a horrible person. It’s only going to get worse for them, too. Instead of railing against it, embrace it. I can’t wait to see how MC gets kicked in the head by the narrative next!

Once you approach it with this knowledge, you stop dreading the MC abuse and applaud it. You can pick one or more NPCs with whom to side and revel in watching the MC be repeatedly kicked while they’re down. When the “redeemable” MCs (the ones who grovel enough and take the abuse with a smile) get their bittersweet ending, it will be satisfying to see that they earned it after being rofflestomped for 20 chapters. And when the irredeemable MCs get horrible ends–because haven’t repented enough for all their misdeeds and taken their narrative beating with grace–it should likewise be satisfying.

It’s all about perspective. :stuck_out_tongue:

Reputation in shambles, hate tweets breaking 200K+ likes easy, manager on the verge of a breakdown. Still the baddest bitch in the competition, though :nail_care:t3:

One thing MC will never be is irrelevant :relieved:

I do sometimes wonder what people were expecting from a game literally titled Infamous, lol.

In the next chapter, I just want to have another opportunity to whip out the harmonica (preferably infront of Blake) just to read other people’s reaction, G’s bit is casually fun.

I’ve mainly stuck with a very humorous MC who could give less of a shit about the accusations because they have the confidence to push through it with their god-like vocal talent and lyrics. Reminds me of the typical Shonen MC troupe even though I’ve stopped reading those stuff for years, maybe I’m just channeling my love for Cinderella with the ‘strength through kindness’ and because I’m not letting my MC stoop down to their levels of assholery (unless they throwing hands) In the long run, it’s alot easier to not give fuel to those who antagonize MC for a reaction, professionalism and all that bs (sideeyes Blake love you boo but I would punch you in the jaw if it didn’t result in tabloids and assault charges)

I also don’t see the issue with the ‘forced history’ with Seven? It’s blatantly obvious that the MC is mainly fixed and they’re relatively mysterious to us as the readers. The drama with Seven is hinted to be the fault of both sides, so aside from Seven’s poor communication skills and initial obsessiveness with MC, what did MC do that contributed to the break up? Based on what answers you give to Seven, you can either be neutral and had moved on, apologetic (again, what did you do MC?) Or be just as much as an asshole as Seven in retaliation. Not to mention them likely being codependent to eachother…

I don’t see the point of making my MC lash out because there’s no point in it except make them look more like the villian, I’ve also graced them the common sense of knowing what they signed up for, they’re in a reality TV show that hungers for drama, it needs a villian and MC was chosen for it.

To quote Riverdale, “if I’m a fucking villain, so be it”. Most of my non-asshole blob not-MC runs got scrapped because it’s just too bloody obnoxious to eat shit with a smile and a thank you from literally everyone. Pushing their buttons and being a cunt is the only current way for MC to even come near to shit that gets dished at them daily.

Most likely I’m basing it off IRL examples because when I see any influential person respond to accusations like an ass, my reaction ranges from :face_with_raised_eyebrow: to "no, no, NO, where is your pr team?! to “ooo they sound kinda guilty :face_with_peeking_eye:” While those who respond in a more graceful/laidback manner with some professionalism, I would have a significantly better opinion over the person, extra points if they have anything to back them up (in this case, MC’s musical talent)

Either way, the accusers will still be in the comment sections but are alot more irritating if you give in to what they want. I’m hoping we get to have more choices to be more sarcastic and snarky in future chapters for more balance.

Still crossing my fingers that once Infamous is complete, I can do a run with an addict MC to see how horrified everyone’s reaction will be.

My MC is almost the same till Seven shows up then she melts and threatens to punch ppl

Kind of random, but in the game Deadlock there’s a character called Seven who escaped from death row, a very Lawless character if I do say so myself :face_with_monocle:

I never said there was issue with it. What I said was that it’s set and MC is the villain. There’s really no other way to look at it, when the MC isn’t even given the option to understand why Seven was rightfully pissed off and hurt.

They either voted to sideline 7 in the band they co-founded with the MC or they voted not to then went along their merry way acting like they did everything they could, when that’s not the case and they’re just as bad as the MCs who voted to make 7 a backup singer (when they already had a backup singer).

I did try with a MC who embraced being a villain, but it felt bloody awful. The closest I can get my stoic, professional MC who bottles up her anger and depression at constantly being treated like shit and (offscreen) finds ways to endanger and hurt herself that don’t involve drugs or booze (because she actually wants to win and has enough sense to know that isn’t going to happen if she’s hammered or stoned all the time, but if she happens to kill herself doing extreme sports, she’s fine with that because at least she died with a rush). She’s fighter (seriously, she was the queen of barfights when she was younger) who has harnessed that tendency and buried it, partially because she is broken. She takes the vitriol with a blank face and has basically learned to not feel her feelings to the point where she’s the poster girl for detachment. She figures she deserves it and knows she lost the love of her life (7) and can never get him back, so if he wants to shit on her, fine–she deserves it for betraying him. She just tries to avoid him as much as possible.

Another of my MCs has become a big ball of beaten down sadness, with no self-confidence, isolated and alone, and feeling like she deserves all the vitriol. At this point, someone could spit on her or throw acid in her face and she’d just let out a breath and walk away with her head down. She’s pathetic and kind of nauseates me because I’m a fighter, but it fits her personality and the fact that she knows she’s a horrible person and was a terrible friend to 7. The funny part is she’s less depressing now that I’ve made her 7 female. When 7 was male, I couldn’t stand playing her because there were no choices to reflect just how off the rails she was.

My third MC is an O-mancer. She also thinks she deserves the vitriol and figures fighting back will ruin her chances of winning, anyway. So she just doesn’t. She wants to–she’s a fighter–but it would risk alienating the audience as a whole, so she won’t. She’s not broken like my other two are, but she does regret how things went down with 7. She just blames it on being young and insecure. She’s more secure with her talent now, if nothing else (she can’t stand her band and knows she betrayed her bff 7, and blames them for the vote), but she just wants to move on. The band is like a constant reminder that she’s a disloyal piece of shit. And being forced into 7’s orbit is annoying for her, because it makes those feelings worse (which makes her hate her band even more), but she takes 7’s abuse without a word, avoiding her whenever she can.

I think the closest I could get to a “villain” is a complete train wreck of a MC. I started a run with a MC like this, and am trying to build her character. She picked up drugs and booze after 7 left, and it’s how she manages to exist, as well as fucking anyone with a heartbeat. She is insecure and broken, but hides it behind a mixture of light snark and stoicism (she’s literally too high to argue most times). I haven’t gotten far with her, but she’s interesting, because she knows she’s the villain and hates the role, so she self-medicates the pain as often as possible. I may keep trying to build her and romance one of the sub-ROs so the shit ending with them will be fitting.

I swear that there was more that happened between Seven and the MC before the voting even took place  Like a fight at a party? The vote was the straw that broke the camel’s back, having Seven leave just because of a vote would be poor writing imho (not something I expect from Amy). Not to mention that Seven was completely smitten with MC and grew up together so it makes more sense that their choice to leave was just a culmination of past event/s and the vote (where I think Seven was pissed that MC didn’t step in to stop it all and voted) was the final reason to leave.

I also want to factor in Seven’s concerning behavior because the obsessiveness with MC needs to be checked :skull: No surprise that strong feelings of love = strong feelings of hate/betrayal

the fight was after the vote, and then seven left because of the vote + the fight, iirc.

The rest of the band ambushed Seven and the MC with the vote, which they had obviously already agreed the result of. They then had practice as normal and Seven pretended that everything was fine.

A short time after this, the band went to a party. Seven and the MC got into a fight, during which Seven said that they weren’t happy and that the MC should have quit the band for them. Seven then left the band and ghosted MC for a while before finally dumping them.

I think, so far, the vote and following fight is a weak narrative device because, based on the reaction offered during the flashback in the demo, it only works with an MC that has voted to demote Seven and has been curt/mean to them during the fight. Amy keeps saying that it wasn’t just the vote but mostly the party fight, ok, let’s see. If you voted to keep them as a lead singer and tried to apologize during the party or, God forbid, try to explain the logic behind the vote, how is the MC at fault? In this case, the MC’s main fault is being extremely dense. You’re telling me that after half their life knowing Seven, they wouldn’t pick up their discomfort over the vote or simply know beforehand that Seven would have expected them to tell the band to f* off?!

Seven is extreme in their feelings and reactions but no matter what the MC could have said to them during the fight and the hurt feelings involved, weren’t 10+ years of friendship worth at least the courtesy of a heart-to-heart instead of going radio silent for a month and then showing up to say it’s over without giving the other party a chance to clear the air?! Unless the vote and fight were the culmination of deeper issues that had been building up over time, this vote/fight narrative will never make sense to me.
