Him dragging MC out of his bender and staying by their side would be pretty slay, actually, and something akin to ripping out his heart for his sake as well. At least for my propaganda about band giving less of a damn about their lead singer than the beloved friend and enemy.
Man, drugs just don’t have enough of the consequence yet. It can be used so much just for angst alone! The drug scandal! The tests we did! If my Slammed MC can get their career ruined and returns only with the help of the exec lady and his boyfriend, so can MC!
In a patreon q&a 7 was asked if mc called in the middle of the night and needed help would he help. He said no and something to the effect of it not being his job anymore
Cold callous arse but I still love him. Don’t think tho he’d really leave the mc in trouble. I hope.
I finally got around to reading the new demo, some thoughts:
Prologue and Ch.1: I really enjoyed the new scenes and options given in the prologue, I agree that the MC feels more customizable and fleshed out. As for chapter 1, I loved the farewell scene with the band. Jazz is the mvp.
Ch. 3: I love it. I loved the drama but I think the chapter has too much going on. That single chapter could be split in 3 and you still wouldn’t lose momentum.
Blake’s car scene: it was superb, the banter, the chemistry. Ahhhh! One of the highlights of the chapters.
Overall thoughts on the rewrite: the extra scenes and new stats make for a more personalized playthrough however there’s too much exposition and info dump. Some parts really drag and honestly, you could cut them out completely and nothing will change narrative-wise.
Seven and Avina:
Avina was barely present in ch.3 and the car scene was ok. They didn’t do anything wrong imo. I did read their latest pov and I know most likely they weren’t sincere, but my MC isn’t privy to their thoughts so I really didn’t have a reason to be rude to them. As for losing points with Seven if you’re mean to Avina, well they’re Seven’s friend and Seven is not privy to their thoughts either so it makes sense to lose points there.
Seven and his unique brand of vitriol never cease to amaze me. It’s kind of funny to see what childish response they’re going to throw at the MC when they don’t know how to react. The scene at the beach was a bit random ngl. I’m still trying to make sense of it.
The band:
I like them better in the rewrite. There’s still a disconnect between what we’re told and what we’re shown. As @iMadeYouReadThis said, maybe it’s due to the little time we actually spend together doing bff stuff, idk. Trivial but Iris is so abrasive for no reason, girl please chill. August is amazing as always, I love them.
G, Victoria and Viktor:
I didn’t care much for Victoria ever since she forced the MC to go to the penthouse but man, I felt really bad for her in that scene, that was overall so fucked up. I’m still going to romance G, but I hope there’s some option to make it less painful for Victoria.
I love G, I could never not love them tbh. Anyway, picked the option to say that it matters that they tried, but G is spiraling (the constant drinking, their helplessness). Even though I told them they should stay away (not that they’re going to listen), I want to help them.
Viktor can choke on their salmon suit.
RO:
I agree that some romances feel rushed. I personally think there are too many LI and some paths are suffering from it. G, Blake and Dakota’s feels the most organic so far. I love O but the chemistry they had with the MC in ch.2 was lacking a bit here. I’m very intrigued by LA. Also Triple A is hot.
I’m still craving some other self-destruct sequences for those who would never endanger their career by drinking or doing drugs (sometimes because they used to drink a lot and blame the booze). I mean, c’mon, I could come up with a bunch of other ways to travel on the path to self-destruction and self-endangerment right off the top of my head. I just need one of them.
Remind me again why I want to romance this callous little fucker?
I like this idea. Alternative: Blake. Please, baby, let me write our songs. We can save some of your porno songs to mix in, but let’s have some better lyrics… adds the last part in a whisper so as not to hurt his feelings
@notapretzel
I agree. And it would’ve been nice to have a chapter end with a win for the MC, instead of more angst, even if it immediately gets snatched away. I’d like to actually be able to enjoy what few highs the MC gets to experience before being hit in the head with a sledgehammer again.
And I agree on Blake. It was incredible. So was Dakota.
I didn’t get the beach scene with Seven, either. It seemed very random and like the MC had to be hallucinating, because no way in hell would that happen.
Sorry for not quoting the specific line, but the mobile layout is hell on earth so I’d rather just reply normally, so genuine question in no way meant to be as a jab: is the logic behind “my mc isn’t privy to certain info, ergo I act accordingly” related to the roleplay side of reading ifs?
Because if so I understand completely, but otherwise I can’t wrap my head around it because I can’t go that in-depth while reading and so if I know something I can’t pretend otherwise, if that makes sense?
Or maybe it’s because I started getting weird vibes before and so the pov was just, in my eyes, a confirmation.
To be honest, so can I. But drugs and alcohol just sound like a surefire way to make Seven abandon his durian raccoon persona for a bit - he still cares, I just need him to be alone. Avina brings in rancid vibes that totally break the tension.
I need a downward spiral. But it seems bad habits are probably the only current way to start one.
Though I’m married to a cinnamon roll in rl so I guess this is how I get any angst/drama. Dated some mfers like 7 in the past and they definitely stayed exes, you’d think 7 would be the last ro I’d ever pick. Glutton for punishment I guess
I tried not to let side povs change my MCs behavior just because I, as the reader, have that extra knowledge (it was also one of the reasons I unsub from Amy’s Patreon and was hesitant to sub again knowing too much can ruin the experience, but that’s another topic). My main MC rides with Blake and has minimum interaction with Avina, so from her pov Avina is okish, they’ve exchanged 3 words in total so far. Idk if that makes sense.
It would be fun if they were after the day they had
Anyway, I didn’t understand if the “I defend you” was referring to the cheating allegations or the affair with Victoria, because if it’s the latter maybe Seven was trying to confirm if the MC was actually seeing Vic, checking out the competition so to speak. Otherwise, idk what was the purpose of that conversation.
I’m pretty confident that the reader is meant to pick up on weird vibes; whether the MC does or not is up to you, though.
So yeah, speaking for myself, I’ve gotten pretty good at compartmentalizing meta knowledge and having my characters act without it (most of the time - and sometimes I’ll purposefully throw them into a bad situation just to see what happens).
That’s really interesting! I personally can’t relate in this specific case, but I guess that extra content so to speak can sort of ruin the story in a way.
I consider myself a pretty immersive reader, in which it’s easy for me to picture the world I’m reading about, but sadly once my brain knows something it’s impossible to forget about it.
The first time I play a game I do have a tendency to just play “myself” as it were, but in theory I wouldn’t have any outside knowledge for that first experience. After that, I find it much easier to fall into an actual character of mine and act accordingly.
Yeah, I just wanted different bad habits. I may have to write what I’ve got in mind, because it’d make some of this angst look like child’s play.
My husband is a cross between a cinnamon roll, a smartass who doesn’t know when to tone it down (which is hilarious to me, but watching other people deal with it when they think he’s serious is just painful, lol), and a complete goofball. People think we’re weird. They’re probably right.
Like you, I had a couple of 7s in my past. It didn’t end well for anyone, because I fight fire with fire and gasoline (and maybe some explosives), which inevitably burns everything to the ground! I figure it’d be fun to see how it works out with one of the parties not upping the attacks until one of you limps away bloodied and broken.
Huh. I didn’t even think about the question being about Victoria, which duh… I should’ve, considering it looks kinda like the MC and Victoria are sneaking around together. I guess it never crossed my mind because my MC is straight.
Same. My MC didn’t like Avina right out of the gate. Call it instinct or whatever, she just had that “someone walked across my grave” feeling as soon as she was in the same room with Avina. As a reader, I got bad vibes, too, and every interaction with them leaves me wanting to take a shower and scrub with comet to get the ick off of me.
Reading the POVs did not help. I can typically compartmentalize (that’s kind of part of RPing and writing), but when I already get the heebie jeebies over a character and then get confirmation that it’s worse than I imagined? Yeah… my character ends up getting more and more psychic, lol.
I have a “test” character named Mia Valentine (because it makes me laugh). She’s an OC, but she’s very flexible, in more ways than one, ahem, and a good one to test a game to see if I like it and what LIs I need to create a MC for. Once I make those decisions, I start making my MCs. They don’t always turn out the way I expect…
Plus another thing is like, I could see myself ignoring certain info for the sake of roleplaying but for Avina’s case is impossible because the pov left an awful aftertaste. It was too pungent in the bad feelings department, so now every time they’re on the page I’m like “I know what u are”
Ha! I have a character like this, although I wouldn’t say he’s a “test” character, per se (he’s actually the character I’m using as my Infamous MC right now). I’ll admit, he’s one of my personal favorites to play.
He is guileless, impulsive, and somehow has chemistry with every RO, so he’s my exact opposite in several ways. But that that’s what makes him fun, haha.
This definitely happens to me, too. The most recent example I can recall are two characters from Baldur’s Gate 3: The Emperor and Raphael. Every time they spoke to the player it was so obvious that they were opportunistic, manipulative creeps - like, I know what that sounds like - and as the story progresses and you learn more and more it just gets exponentially worse.
My fave character to play in that game is a dummy, so I must insinuate my own instincts into his decisions regarding those two. I must protect.
Yeah my mc never trusted Avina even before the patreon pov came out.
Originally in the chapter 2 demo I chose to share a bus with soft violence…but with how in ur face “savina” was and then Avina being all “seven doesn’t like sleeping alone” like b*tch I know. My mc used to share the bed with him.
What’s that phrase? I will leave such an imprint on your heart that anyone you entertain after me will have to know me to understand you.
Like irregardless of how much it’s forced with Avina x seven they will never be what mc x seven was. Not even close.
And tbh I LOVE the old flashback stories of seven x mc when they were teens bc seven was so kind and funny and actually not an asshole lmao.
But basically yeah all this to say Avina & seven can choke. My mc has moved onto G. If it blows up in her face at least G is honest about being a train wreck
see, now i’m confused because i was told it wasn’t supposed to be interpreted as MC and vic having an affair, even though i totally thought so. i didn’t have a chance to replay chapter 3 more awake to confirm lol.
my MC would’ve liked to tell 7 to fuck off during that scene. but if that was what seven meant with that question, she would’ve told them to fuck off even more bc she’s straight so, no, she’s not having an affair with victoria lol.
lol same. i never liked avina tbh bc i always got those vibes from them. ever since we first met them, they always felt so fake to me i knew they had to be kinda weird. so actually i’m just happy to know i was right
lmfaooo yeah that was funny tbh. thanks for telling MC that, avina! i am sure they weren’t aware of that. so childish lol
I think it was less of it being mc having an affair with Victoria than more viktor saving his client G’s ass and pinning a conspiracy of mc and Victoria plotting together. Like I don’t think it was the affair angle at all. Just major pr and making certain people be out of the messy situations.
See I absolutely wondered 7s motivation for this conversation. He specifically says he sought mc out to have it and yet has spent years avoiding her like the plague. I’m wondering if it’s a lowkey fishing ‘hey are you romantically involved’ wih V kind of thing. My mc is straight female so it’s a no but rereading the article seems to insinuate more than just cheating on the show.
Triple A has mentioned before 7 defending us against the cheating allegations very early on but after that photo it makes me go hmmm…
