I'm Sorry, But I Think We Should See Other People - ROs You Hate

Prodigal is the initial arch nemesis in heroes rise. Who can summon war materials. She obsessed over the main character because she wants a nemesis, to the point of building up the mc’s career so she can tear it down and her romance is based entirely off the fact at one point you go in her head and see how much she obsessed over you.

Anyway she still causes less problems than BM so whatevs in my book

I’d argue that this undersells how twisted Prodigal actually is by leaving out details like how she was going to nuke an entire major city just to prove what a failure you are as a hero and what a legendary villain she is, how she kills her pet when she realizes she may not be able to come back to her lair, how she tips off a SWAT team to surround you in order to make sure you have no choice but to work with her at the start of the 3rd book, etc. It’s my understanding that she was basically only a romance option by popular demand though, so obviously she clicked with some people in a way that she didn’t for me.

Unless it’s Manerkol, in which case we all collectively anti-stan Manerkol.

Tyler from Psy High, is already annoying that the MC is automatically super attracted to them by default but the end of their route was disappointing seeing as they decide to dump the MC at the end no matter what happens at the prom.

I’d much rather choose Alison now instead whenever I replay that book since she’s always there for the MC no matter what, is alot better than the ex friend who uses the MC as a rebound when his girlfriend dumps him or the crush who only likes the MC when they get popular.

Oh, I got bad vibes from Tyler right away, just how hard the story was trying to push that they were super super sexy and popular and I totally had a secret crush on them, followed by how hard they tried to work me over, that was the fastest nope I ever noped.

I’ve already graduated high school, I know that scam when I see it.

Literally my Mecha Ace pilot and his boyfriend Hawkins. I didn’t have enough Presence and had to rely on reputation, but I can fully imagine him going like that in the speech path.

Stealing superweapons in order to submerge humanity in endless war that, according to his philosophy, would make them stronger is just so dreamy. Although I think the main events that made these two fall in love were Gundam duels with each other - they weren’t even Newtypes, yet the connection manifested through kicking the everliving shit out of each other regardless.

High school was definitely a scam

Hawkins is Char, right? I beat her everytime we met and she fell in love with me and we either destroyed the enemy fleet and lived happily ever after or took control of the weapon and ended all war. One of those playthroughs was with the ATC girl

Literally who? I always end up with the best friend. I don’t know how ypu could end up with anyone else.Though it does limit me in the sequel.

I seen a few people go for him

Now that’s one RO I’d like to see people defend. Not because of the whole “haha im evil!!” stitch, but simply cause to me he’s the most stale piece of bread. There’s barely any breadcrumbs about manerkol, what made people point at him and go “that one, give me that one.”

Yeah, he’s A CHAR. But unlike Char, power of love can persuade him to stay down.

Yeah, but I feel it was not only Lalah. His relationship with her reads more ambiguous in the original series (in Origin they’re far more romantic), so I feel she was some sort of a pedestal for him. A model Newtype and an icon, representation for the reason he fights. Kycillia mentioned that after he found Lalah his goals changed.

And then after she dies he finds another Newtype he views as a reason, Kamille. I read Char as someone very prone to locking on and idolising someone he sees as a representation of his goals. I think the combined loss of Kamille and Lalah pushed him over the edge, not simply the loss of Lalah.

He’s hot, long-haired, a vampire and wants to destroy soul stones. That’s mainly the only reasons why I romance him personally. I like long-haired men, fantasy dictators and even though the relationship reads like a Wattpad SI paired with Melkor in yet another Silmarillion fanfic, at least he hates Soul Stones as much as I do.

I feel like pre-CCA Char would’ve put his guns down if he had a reasonable chance at a future with Lalah but her loss hardened him immensely

You see a bit of the softer char with his relationship with Nanai(?) But he’s already pretty much locked on target by then

I love long haired characters too, but for once I will have to turn my back on my comrades and say I can’t like this one just because he’s attractive.
Sometimes a pretty face is all you need, but this one? Not for me, chief. As for destroying the stones, I agree and hopefully you’ll still be able to do it without having to join voldemort

For me it combined with everyone treating my MC like shit. Sure, mine was a bit abrasive, but he only lashed out when people tried to mock him, which was… surprisingly often. Constant mocking and babying got both on the nerves of me and my character so hard the only person he genuinely liked was Elenwen. Others can go on their merry way as far as he’s concerned.

I will never understand why people would want to make or play games where the protagonist is treated like absolute shit, constantly mocked and belittled, and is helpless to do anything about it. I don’t see the appeal of such a thing at all but stories like that just fucking keep popping up and being popular. It’s so strange to me.

Because they abandon you if you mind control the teacher.

Isn’t that like prime underdog story though?

Also I like stories that go full circle with “would the hero save a world they don’t like?”.

In many of those stories, my MCs decide “Nah” and fall to villainy out of spite.

Which is really funny when the expectation is just that you’ll be okay with being treated like crap and want to save the world, and so everybody’s all, “How could this have happened?! You were the chosen one! We trusted you!”

I suppose, if more than a handful of those stories actually did it. A good example of the general idea would be Mind Blind to me. You’re so completely fucked by life but you’re fully given the ability to be pissed about it, and even as shit as your situation is you have your own unique ability and are insanely competent besides. It’s still you fighting against your disability, still pretty underdog, but you don’t get treated like a waste of air by the characters or the story. I’m just not interested in being treated like shit, and personally I’d rather be a powerful character than the weak pathetic hanger-on like Soulstone forces you to be, as a prime example. For me, if I want to feel weak and powerless I’ll just put down the game and be reminded how I’m unable to be independent because of my mental issues. I have more than enough of that in reality to want anything like it in my escapism.

If I have control, absolutely not

The hell of it is, as others have pointed out in the past, yeah the MC is a backwater country bumpkin who has never known the battlefield before… But prior to meeting the rest of the party, they were getting by okay. When you get jumped by the bounty hunters in book one, if you choose to fight them, you pretty handily serve them their asses.

Is it Manerkol’s soldiers or literal dragon gods? No, sure, but you’re hardly as helpless as you become after everybody else shows up.
