Ideas for less popular superpowers?

As I said, the process of manipulating the probability gotta be complex and not easily spammable. I think that leaves alot of room for plot to be consistent and avoid the “Araki Syndrome”. Otherwise, probability manipulation is too op.

Yup, specifically in COG games. When was the last time we could turn into stuff without being a werewolf?

What’s op depends on the power level of other characters too, though.

…and now I really want to make a chatacter with a passive probability manipulation power (something logarithmic, I’d say, the further you go from the ideal area the smaller the change becomes).

Well probability manipulation still sounds op imo because can’t you just have your punch have 100 percent chance of knocking the villain out in one punch?. Also by passive manipulation you mean it is like a ‘‘it happens cuz I hope/wish/think it will happen’’ thing?

No, I mean that things around you suddenly have increased/changed probability of happening (automatically, without you having any control over it). Like you walk into a casino, and suddenly the probabilities of every game in the radius shift (it would probably slightly increase the ones that already have higher probabilities, and decrease the opposite ones, unless the math itself turns something bizarre).

Like, say, the probability of house winning would shift from 60% to 62% or something.

Ohhhh so like wild magic sorcerers from dnd but without spells. Also…how is that useful if you don’t have control over it?

It’s not. That’s the point. :woman_shrugging: Not every power needs to be useful.

Although you might use it to boost someone’s chances, so maybe it could be a little useful in right context.

Interesting…a world full of situational, not worth it superpowers, instead of the basic tropey superpowers like in every setting…are you gonna write a story like that(if you are going to)? Or is it just that one character whose superpowers sounds useful on paper?

Yeah, I have one at works. Some powers that are useful, some that are pointless, some that are flat-out dangerous for the person with them, and a lot in-between that are useful in some situations and useless/dangerous in others.

Really? Is it still untitled or is there a wip page somewhere?

I don’t have a wip yet, I don’t quite know where I’m going with it at this point and need to figure it out first unless I want to rewrite the whole project every month or so :woman_shrugging:

Thing is tho isn’t there like…many anticipated superhero/superpower titles? Fallen hero, community college hero and hero project is what I know so far. Hero or Genesis too.

There is. Doesn’t mean I couldn’t make my own :woman_shrugging:

…good point. Not like they are churning out the games like a factory line. Good luck, the power impairment sounds really unique. Hope you really do something with the idea.

Just a list I came up with of cool/unorthodox superpowers and combinations of them I think would be interesting:

Gravity Manipulation with Density Fluctuation (Basically making someone able to pass through walls or make themselves bulletproof)
Metallic Skin, Energy Absorption and Reflection, Long Claws
Chameleon DNA (So invisibility, probably your run-of-the-mill enhancements to the human body, and a tail)
Manticore Mutation (Wings and a tail that can shoot out quills)
Super Speed, Shadow Form, Mind Manipulation
Ferret DNA (Lame animal to have your DNA fused with, but hey flexible, quick, and agile, not to mention greater hearing and sight)
Possession through Kissing (wouldn’t that be awkward, you kiss someone and then take over their body like a ghost)
Angel Wings, Gun Proficiency, Enhanced Eyesight

Well, if I were making a superhero story and wanted characters who didn’t have the standard super strength, speed, flight, DNA fusions, and elemental control, I’d use something like these. Heh, maybe I will someday actually. Although there are a LOT of superhero ones, to be fair.

Tbh this sounds alot like stock superpowers just recycled.

-Power to know the answer to any question or problem you are faced with. Not that you know everything at all times, just the answer instinctively comes to you when asked.

-A character whose power is literally a user interface similar to a video game, complete with an inventory where they could store and carry impossible things. Mini maps with quest markers that tell them where they need to be for whatever their current goal is. A save system that allows them to go back and load their last save from the past while retaining all the knowledge they gained.

The gaming UI power sounds similar to the webtoon The Gamer, if you’re familiar with that. No longer following it, though.

Now, for my contribution to the thread: power to sneeze in demand.

Not familiar, but like they say there is nothing new under the sun.

Here are some of my ideas, I will add more to this post if I think of any:

  • The ability to slow down your perception of time, or speed it up (Time Dilation).
  • The ability to see the paths of projectiles (Trajectory View).
  • The ability to see the future, but only for a finite amount of time (Limited Precognition).
  • The ability to un-age (Reverse Aging).
  • The ability to taste the composition of anything (Super Taste).
