I, the Unbroken One [ITFO Sequel] [August 19, 2025] [Short Story Poll]

The entire short story about the marshal joining Rade would be “and then they won the Civil War and killed everybody, the end”

If you mass the retinue in the center for greater damage instead of dispersing them equally while otherwise following this strategy, your Cohesion remains above 90 while either an infantry charge or cavalry charge brings the rebels to 71. They are defeated either way because the right flank is shattered.

@Ultra_In_Something my bad. Sorry.

you sure?

Retinue modifier starts at 1.4 then if you dont disperse your troops you get following bonuses
regimentation 1 gives +0.25
skill_FormationFighting 1 gives + 0.6
so you get At least 2.25 retinue modifier

skill_FormationFighting 2 gives only 0.8
so you end up with 2.2
so formation figting is worse skill for doing damage
even after these it gets worse
if (skill_Regimentation > 0)
*set RArcherKills * 0.80
regimentation 1 decreases damage from archers and can also help you with cohesion
FormationFighting dose not help you with anything else

Progress continues at a very good pace. I’ve been freakishly busy a few days this week, but the rapid progress on other days has made up for any words I missed then. Should have a free shot this weekend to both work on Patreon rewards and continue chugging along on Chapter 2. It might end up split in half, delaying the reunion with the Janowitz to Chapter 3.

I’m curious, do you have even kind of a guess at what you think the final wordcount will be? Obviously it’s going to be much higher than any preliminary numbers but just for the sake of scaling

As my liege wills it.

Well, @Bacondoneright, could it be possible to tweak formation fighting II so that it gives a better combat bonus (above the 2.25 modifier of regimentation I + formation fighting I) if you put the retinue in the center?

The details of the whole thing are here:

i dont think first game is geting any changes. there are few these kind of things where balance is a little wonky.
if i was making sugestions for second game which im now making  i would say that formation figting needs some kind of buff it should deal most damage which will also be buff for weapon master mc. probably also should stay weapon master unique thing,
weapon mc should also get to use hes crosbow someday
comunication could also be improved i think it should be buffing cordination of retinue with light cav and rangers. maybe second level could involve teaching light cav and rangers same thing that we taught our retinue.
regimentation and veterans are both in good place.

tactics mc is in overall best place one problem it has is that doing its special ending battle just is not worth it curently. You can easly do more damage and take less casultys with normal battle and it also gets you much more army loyality and plus vassal loyality.
curently geting best outcome in tactic mc 2 battle is harder then geting best outcome in normal battle IT needs some kind of buff to be worth doing

i already talked about weapon master mc and it will be balanced and fun if formation figting is buffed.

leadership mc is in good place. i think just leting him mainly recruit more units like in game 1 or leting him get some faction points plus few battelfield aplication will make it as fun to play as it was in game 1,

i think these are main things that i would like to see to be improved in game 2 from balancing perspective.

Why do you think that formation 2 should give a better outcome? In terms of military realism I kind of think that formation 2 without regimentation (ie establishing subordinate units and NCO-like positions) is trying to do something before you’ve built the organizational infrastructure for it within the army.

If we’re going for a level of verisimilitude rather than just gamey type balance, I think Regimentation I is the most necessary upgrade and should make everything after it easier, depending on which direction you want to go

When I finish writing my Rade x Marshal fanfic it will be so over for you
armstrong chase

(I haven’t started at all)

Realistically, both regimentation I and formation fighting I may be better overall but formation fighting II involves standardized equipment and more stuff which no doubt should increase offensive capabilities.

I believe on the idea of formation fighting I and II having to be better for at least offensive capabilities in the last big battle and other future battles at the cost of more casualties.

Now I’m going to write a Mira x Veluska fanfic to counter yours.

I’ve already started :smiling_face_with_horns:

Will we get to know more about Cadarn and his relationship with the marshal?

That’s something I’d like to finally learn about.

Also, I wonder if compensation for the veterans (both in Border War and KCW) will come back up. I can see Lukewarm/Warm Elya, the Regent, and Sane Usurper choosing to start the compensation plan (in Elya’s case, of her own free will and without player input, Sane Usurper is taking responsibility). Cold Elya and Mad Usurper will likely need some (okay, a lot of) convincing.

Yep

If Bacon will not write Rade romance we must do it ourselves

I’d post it on Ao3 but that site requires an invite to sign up which could take a week for some reason

Rade x Marshal fanfic

Hi my name is Kresnik and I have long ebony black hair (that’s not how I got my name) with a long fringe and a ponytail that reaches my mid-back with a big cowboy hat-shaped head and cunning brown eyes like soaked tree bark and a lot of people tell me I look like Veluska (AN: if u don’t know who she is get da hell out of here!). I’m not related to Mira but I’m glad I’m not because she’s a major fucking bitch. I’m a Stiedry but my ring fingers are missing unlike Sobik and Mira’s. I have light brown skin. I’m also a marshal, and I served in a jungle called Krorid in Kanton where I’m the forgotten one (I’m twenty three). I’m a goth (in case you couldn’t tell) but I wear mostly green. I love brigandine and I buy all my armor from Krorid. For example today I was wearing a green brigandine with matching chainmail under it and steel gauntlets, steel pauldron and steel boots. I was wielding a steel greatsword, with a leather scabbard, and leather belt. I was walking outside Wrido. It was snowing and raining so there was no sun, which I was very happy about. A lot of nobles stared at me. I threw my ring fingers at them.

“OH EM GEE GET OUT OF MY WAY LOSERR!!!” someone shouted behind me but before I could turn, they (the person shouting) bumped into me and then made me fall on the ground and then they (the person shouting) started laughing evilly like “MUAHAHAHAHA!!” and everyone else laughed like that too (we were in public) and then I looked up and then I realized it was actually MIRA (the person shouting) the bitchy queen of Kanton and wife of that asshole Sobik the king of kanton and the mother of those idiots Belos the crown prince and Vedran the other prince and that useless girl Elya the princess and I was about to cry when someone (not the person shoting) yelled “hey stop that!!” and it was Rade (pronounced rah-day) the hottest guy in canton.

rad nelt down and extended his hand and i took it. hE said to mira (the person shouing) “leave him alon” but Nira (the person shuting) was stupod and sed “Oh yeah what’s he gonna do he deosn’t even have ring fingers huehueeheheh” she (the peron shuotng) laughed bitchily.

i snapped and screamewd “FUCK YOU MIRA!!” and panched her (teh person shuoting) with my fist and then she (the person not shouting anyumor) deaded.

“waw radde says “that was so cool and your head isn’t ugly”

“Tee hee hee hee” I chuckled grimly “ty gov’nor”

“u should join my army were gonn kill sobik and take da thron” rude sed flatly but i saided deadpan “ugh no i can’ton (hehehe get it? like can’t and Kanton) becoz i have to fight for my spoiled sister eliot” but red just look at me

“Kresnik, my love, forget Elya and teh war and run away with me” Rade sed. His husky voice sended shivers down my spin.

“Oh Rade,” I swooned “You hav no idea how long I’ve weited to here that!” He took me into his arms, his sleeves threatening to burst as his massive biceps bulged and kissed me.

“Make love to me, gov’nor” I whispered.

“gladly” reda (prononced rah-day) sez dryly as he took off his armor“ get Rade for me”

He chuckled grimly. I chuckled grimly. We both chuckled grimly.

Then he put his gov’nor in my gov’ness.

“UUURRRRAAAAGH!” i moaned grimly. and then we made love like that.

sudden ly raad started shaking “omg what’s happening to me???”

“OHMAHGAHD R<3DE” i gasped “YOU R GREGNANT!!!”

Vedran shut Kresnik’s journal. He refused to read another word from that horrid book. He had been reading through the papers they stole from Kresnik’s tent in the hopes of learning something useful but the last thing he expected was that. To be frank, simply looking at it left Vedran feeling violated. Not even the thought of invading Kresnik’s privacy could give him any satisfaction.

Vedran’s thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Rade’s soldiers approaching his tent.

“Your Highness,” one of them called out, “His Majesty sent us to collect the papers taken from the Marshal’s tent.” Hearing Rade being referred to as “His Majesty” irked Vedran. That title would have been his had it not been for his father’s letter. Already Vedran was having doubts about joining Rade.

“Enter,” Vedran said as he gathered Kresnik’s papers. Two soldiers entered the tent and approached Vedran. He handed Kresnik’s papers - the useful ones - to the soldier nearest to him. The soldier examined the papers in his hands for a moment before his eyes fell on Kresnik’s journal, lying near his bedroll.

“What about that one?” the soldier said, gesturing towards Kresnik’s journal with his free hand.

“Tha-” Vedran said but suddenly he paused. While the thought of humiliating Kresnik was tempting, allowing Rade to read his journal would mean subjecting another person to Kresnik’s literature. No one deserved that. Kresnik’s journal was useless anyhow. There would be no harm in keeping it hidden.

“That’s mine,” Vedran said, “It’s best if you forget about it.” He looked into the eyes of the soldier nearest to him and hoped they would both listen.

The soldier stared at him for a moment but then nodded. Perhaps he saw the urgency in Vedran’s eyes and took pity on him. “Aye,” he said, “we’ll pretend we didn’t see that then.”

They took their leave and Vedran let out a sigh of relief. He could now think of a way to dispose of Kresnik’s journal discreetly. As he contemplated how he would go about this, he heard the soldiers whispering outside his tent.

“Did he just steal one of the Marshal’s papers?” one soldier asked.

Vedran could see the silhouette of the other soldier nodding.

“Aye, the forgotten one.”

I think it’s the case where you’ll get a better return out of addressing the wider fundamental issues, than going hog-in on specialization for people who still won’t have anyone to tell them who they should be stabbing with their highly offensive equipment.

But that said, guys, you’re debating over a difference between 2.25 and 2.2 performance gains. Which means the mixed approach offers literally 2% better performance compared to the other option. In other words, this is perhaps a little ridiculous level of min-maxing that really doesn’t need some extra addressing on the author’s part.

first its not only 2% difrence, Regimentation is mainly defensive buff it aslo gets you 20% less casultys from archers and also increase your cohesion plus can give you buff in previous chapters.
but even that is not problem main problem is that both leadership mc and tactics mc have other things going for them Problem with formation figting being bad is that its only thing that weapon master mc has going for himself and when that is worse outcome then defult option it is bad balancing.
weapon master mc in game 1 is just playing in hard mode, he has few fun things he can do but mostly it is just hype moment and dose not give you any actual bonnuses.

tactics mc can kill 2500 rades man on walls, gets least casultys from plague, gets 2 difrent fun tactics which are strictly superioir in first battle (can kill 6500 man), gets unique option for second battle and even if you take rade in open battle and he still has most advantage becouse Rades army is at least 2500 man fewer then for eney other mc which decreases your casultys and makes wining much more easy.

leadership mc can save +50 cav more cavalry from first sally out plus kill 250 rades man and then is only character that can do perfect negotiation in first recruitment which gets him +25 heavy cav(for total of 75 heavy cav then all the other skill which is really good ) and plus 1 point of recutiment power , he can also save most people from archer traps and generaly also gives quite decent bonusses for every battle,

weapon master mc can kill 250 man in first sally out but without saving 50 aditional cav and can also buff troops in battles roughly the same way as leadership mc after that he gets one more unique thing which is Formation figting 2 Which as i said above is bad by more then 2%(becouse it is 2% worse in dealing damage and gives 0 survaiblity buffs which other combination DO give on top of dealing More damge) These is problem becouse from army-management standpoint it is only major and interesting thing that he has going for him.

2 out of 3 skills above are fun and give interesting bonuses which can lead to difrent experinace 1 of them is just an hard mode.

Weapon Master MC really should be less effective as a general though. The bigger the scale of the battle, the less Weapon Master MC should really matter.

The whole point of the Weapon Master MC is that they are good in individual combat.
