The first choice didn’t really matter in my case (retinue in front or spread).
Rangers mixed with frontline troops.
Intercept any flanking cav with your own, this is crucial.
When given the chance, target enemy archers with your own, this will force enemy archers to back off. Later on, refocus them on enemy frontline.
When given the chance to intervene yourself, pick the join frontline option (not flanking with cav). Your performance should inspire Kroridians and make them go berserk, piercing through the middle and forcing enemy to flee.
This might obviously depend on your army composition, but it worked for me, and you can see how many of each soldier type I had in the post I quoted earlier.
Elya is warm and kindhearted in this playthrough and she’d resolved to wear the crown well for the sacrifices the dead made for her to get it. I found it fitting because while she is warm and kind, she is also a warrior queen in this playthrough with Strength 5 (and “warm and kindhearted” does not have to equal “naive and sheltered” which is what I like about Elya). Does cold and cunning Elya get different text?
Also, what about her reaction to Vedran’s capture/death? In my playthrough Elya was glad that my Marshal spared him (since he was no longer in Rade’s hands), but when she saw him in prison she really laid into him and called him out on his BS. That I found fitting—again, “warm and kindhearted” != “naive and sheltered” especially when Elya has Strength greater than or equal to 4, and I can sort of see her reminding Vedran that he continues to live because of her grace as her being at the end of her rope with him (and also having to deal with a whole bunch of new problems such as the bishop). I wonder if this differs if Elya is cold and cunning, and if she has lower strength (in my weak Elya playthrough, Vedran died).
I wonder what the ramifications of the “Warrior Queen” achievement will be in ITUO.
Read the demo twice but was still really excited to read it from the beginning again. Binged it all already and this is definitely one of my favourite IFs. Also Dariiin, brooo he’s the best.
Been lurking around since you first posted, and this has easily been my most anticipated WIP for the last 3 years. Did not disappoint. Probably one of the best IF games I’ve played, and the battle scenes are easily the best I’ve read. The amount of influence the player has over the battles and the fact that the story continues regardless of the outcome is just f*cking awesome
Finally found time to play this, went depressed war criminal pragmatic tactician and was planning to be jealous at the start but she won me over. Ended up supporting her as queen and romanced Obren.
Everything felt logical and nice, the tactics worked and I had legitimate fun fighting here as an old wargamer. I truly appreciate the healing path, I did not expect that. Gonna be fun to play someone extremely different next time.
I have played a second playtrough, this time with a warrior Mc. I draw against Mozoroff. However the game treat it as defeat. Why?
Also after the Battle there is write: - 1wonder heavy cavalry.
I don’t think that it’s normal
To become king you either build up jealousy points with elya without being friendly/nice to her, or you keep her at low leadership level (Don’t let her build up experience being a leader) and then retreat from the final battle.
I’m in the middle of rewriting the code for chapter nine, but it’s an absolute beast of the project, and I’m still writing Whiskey daily. The previous code is both buggy and also… just awful, so I’ll make a guide for it once it’s no longer causing me physical and emotional pain.
If you have a screenshot, could you link it?
I’ve fixed that in the code but I’ve yet to send the fixed files just yet. For some reason, the number of riders was being listed as Rade’s infantry, which is uh… not correct.
It does!
Do you have any specific screenshots? If not, that’s fine.
I am once again asking for a screenshot lol
There is; I had a beta tester win with every specialization.
Lol no, sorry. If you want the ability to get into the pants of pretty much every named character (including the sort of big bad), then you should play Whiskey-Four.
The Holy Father himself isn’t going to make a show in book 2 on account of being old, but I plan for a sort of Papal Legate fantasy equivalent to play a central role.
Replay leadership path, Elya is dead, i killed vedran, mira is dead, my mc became the queen. God, losing Ellie destroyed me
I hope mc can finally off herself or just let herself captured and became Rade’s captive/consort in the sequel. This woman has been through a lot and tbh death would be easier for her. I feel that aromantic mc is the best path because how much she has been damaged she cant connect with other people anymore. Truly a great work, cant wait for the sequel.
Overall, the story and characters for that matter are truly well written and crafted. I very much enjoyed the emotional rollcoaster of my MC, not to mention being easily flustered. In short, I give a 9/10. Though I did find some typos in spots.
However, I will say that it’s disappointing that there wasn’t a female romance for a female MC. You have the two straight romances and the gay one, yet why not complete the cycle of romances with a lesbian one.
The “simplest” fix would be to have Lada be Bisexual and possibly take some admiration on the female MC, but thats likely not gonna happen. However, there could be the solution of having a young female soldier who is passing as a male simply for their own reasons of joining the army, who gets discovered by the Marshall by chance, which starts a whirlwind romance with both dealing with each others secrets.
As with history there have been women who have dressed up as men who did fight in wars, so it’s not out of the realm of possibilities. So if the Author does consider perhaps making a patch to add-on a female romance for a lady Marshall, it could work out in the end. Otherwise, my lady marshall is gonna be a lonely, repressed gal.
Certainly looking forward to the next book, and do hope for more than just two books.
The horse is female for me. I named her Aurora. I use a personal journal. A good way for the Marshal to cope.
@Bacondoneright Just a question if you don’t mind… After re reading the final battle(tactical approach), Rade say something that he trust only himself, to deal with the Royalist constant harrasing. So the question is:
Is Mozoroff a man who like micromanaging his subordinate? Is he a leader who try to not delegate to his subordinate? Or he is right when he said that his subordinate are just incompetent/average?
Now certainly, you can make the argument that Mozoroff action made sense, because of his experience with the whole guerrilla style, but surely there should be some of his knights who had fought in Krorid, and should theoretically knew how to answer to the hit and run tactics employed by the loyalist
So what is the correct answer?
Have enjoyed most of the book and am near the end, but have no real idea what I’m supposed to do to even get a draw on chapter 9, have tried so many combinations of choices and no dice, it may just be me but I’m not even sure what exactly I’m having the army do some of the time when telling them to do things.
For reference I have 1800 Infantrymen, 11 Light Cavalrymen, 357 Heavy Cavalrymen, 294 Archers, 800 Rangers and 2800 Retinue, with Formation Combat 2 as a trait. Weapon specialization.
Just wanted to post my appreciation for this amazing book. I just finished it and I gotta say wow. Loved my longhaired tactically minded Marshal. I especially loved having to cut my hair when returning to the jungle and now having to wait for it to grow back that I’m back at the capital even though I got my fancy brush back. And yea especially love Obren… That is all as far as that statement is concerned lol again just wow this book is amazing! Waitings gonna be rough.
