I, the Forgotten One Release Thread (1.2)

Hi! So I played the game, and I loved it! The way the story unfolded was so sweet!

Things I liked:

  • Milon! I played as a female MC and I think Milon was a 10/10 RO.
  • Some other characters I greatly appreciated were Darrin, Obren and Elya
  • I enjoyed how the MC’s coping aspect was able to unfold. I think the story telling was very well done.
  • The path of considering Rade’s offer (I didn’t try it yet) it seems very intriguing. It is hard because he is clearly motivated by his own pride, but would love to be able to see more of the historty unfold between him and the MC. I almost want a prequel :joy:

I have to talk about the battle:

I personally could not win the battle with the troops I had on the first play through. I have no clue what I did wrong (I think I went too heavy on the archers), and I will most likely play through it a few more times to seek all the endings and figure it out. But after 4 tries and failing I gave up, and I was still very pleased with the ending and how the story turned out regardless. Just made me excited for the next book. Usually a “not the best” ending is upsetting, but it was so easy to make peace with it and still feel good.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT STORY TELLING :raised_hands:

Hi everyone! I adore this game. I’m really struggling with the final battle as a leadership-specialised marshal. I’m sure it’s possible to win, but I think I’ve tried every permutation from the checkpoint, and always lose.

I must be making some costly moves in the earlier battles, choosing, unwisely when asked whether or not to rescue stragglers and the like, picking the wrong weapon and armour, choosing the wrong army upgrades, or mis-investing my points.

Can anyone please recommend some steps for being in the best shape possible for the final battle and winning?

Funny, my most successful weapons, playthrough involved stacking up ridiculous amounts of archers and rangers

Strong and cold sis is the perfect combo, absolutely terrifying, and seemingly much more ruthless, exactly what’s necessary to finish this war

I personally prefer a warm and kind sis but strong (I had her at 6).
My goal is for a sibling ruling duo with different expertise and actual cohesion compared to the constant squabbles of succession. Hopefully with the goal of being rehonored just to give up succession again. lmfao

Not sure if it’s mentioned (didn’t notice in cursory search) but there’s a potential issue in CH.5 damage calculator that might be worth looking at:

	*set RebelDamage RebelInfantry / 15000
	*if (c5_MainStrategy = 5)
		*set RebelDamage * 1.15
	*if (c5_MainStrategy = 3)
		*set RebelDamage * 0.90
	*set RebelDamage * Tic2CasMult
	*if (WoodResponse = 3)
		*set RebelDamage * 1.15
	*set InfantryLosses + (RebelDamage * 1.10)
	*set RetinueLosses + RebelDamage
	*if (skill_Regimentation > 0)
		*set RetinueLosses * 0.85
	*if (c5_CavalryStrategy != 1)
		*set CavalryLosses + (RebelDamage * 0.50)
	*if (StrugglingReserves > 0)
		*set CavalryLosses + (RebelDamage * 0.60)

The problematic part here is that CavalryLosses receives damage in the same manner as infantry units, but their “body count” so to speak is actually 4 times lower (50 vs 200 people per 1 unit). As a result, placing your knights dismounted as part of the battle line results in disproportionally large losses to heavy cavalry (in my test run out of 500 dead total the dismounted knights had 300 or so dead, more than retinue or even basic levies) while, going by the code, the intention was to have their losses to be half of regular soliders, on account of heavy armor etc. to match what the game states in description, how the knight losses are relatively smaller.

As a fix the damage multiplier for CavalryLosses could be reduced to 25% of their current values, or the CavalryLosses should be ultimately reduced by 4.

By inspiration focused i’m assuming you mean leadership? If so I recommend the following.

Leadership strats

Firstly do not tell the nobles about the kings death you get more heavy cav that way. When it comes to the open battle charge the archers and then continue attacking (only do this if using leadership). Split the army between nobles and ordinary soldiers when it comes to the sick. Choose formation fighting when it comes to the troop upgrades. Do not allow milon and lada to search for the missing people. Have Elya strength at 5 and then choose support her option when dealing with the Baron. Then when you recruit do a 2:1 split of archers to infantry depending on how many archers you have ideally you want a rating of 5 however 4 is good as well and 3 is baseline what you can have bare minimum, personally i go 1.5 infantry 3 archers and .5 light cav. Then when it comes to decide the tactics for the battle choose to build up defenses instead of traps and then the one where your infantry retreats into an archer trap. Disperse your retinue evenly. When it comes to the injured work people shoot back at the rebels if you have 4-5 archers as you will badly hurt the rebel lines if not then don’t worry about it and make a ceasefire with the enemy. Send your light cavalry over the crossing, and then send your heavy cav after them. Then ride to join your men and inspire them. Then when the enemy routes chase after them. Take the longer path and then ransack towns for supply. (NOTE this is only to be able to achieve a complete playthrough and not an optimal leadership guide.) When you get to Lanorlay, say that the parade was too much of a stir and admit bluntly for extra troops. Armor and weapon are personal choices and don’t have any effect on overall larger battles. The next upgrade is regimentation. For the next recruitment do 1 rangers +3 retinue in the form of veterans. Do rush the men with the rangers instead of holding the position. Improve cohesion by evenly spread. Put rangers with your archers. Intercept with riders and then call them back. Keep up the pressure. Send riders to intercept on the left. Use your archers to shoot rade and his archers. and send the right cavalry to flank. For the final option use your archers to shoot the enemy infantry. and send your light cavalry to flank the line, and for good measure pull men from the rear of your line. For the final choice, join the infantry to help bolster morale. You now have a victory in both ataming and the final battle. Play as you wish.

Edit: This guide largely will work for the weapons specialization and the tactics specialization as well with some minor changes such as doing the trap on the walls if you choose tactics. In all this works as a good setup however baseline on how to win the final battle. If anyone needs help with figuring out how to work a specific build i.e. wanting to do traps instead of defense with tactics/weapons or any other big variations I will do my best to assist just let me know.

I’m just hoping that the new update makes some of the achievements, easier, like avenging the Sally and bleed them dry. I’m hoping to get a total victory, the marshals, Sally, avenge, the sally, all in a single run, and it should theoretically be possible if the archers/Rangers check is a little bit lower

You forget the ultimate sacrifice that is made if you choose to do the marshal’s sally.

Why would you want to kill you own horse :sleepy:

Thank you! I really appreciate your help and the opportunity to complete a playthrough. Do you happen to have an optimal leadership guide for a future play-through?

Also, I imagine I haven’t seen the full effect of this stat yet as I haven’t gotten past the battle but I’m curious about how to raise Elya’s leadership strength stat if you happen to have any info on that. Does it have any effects throughout the story, or only after the final battle?

EDIT: Clarity

This screenshot was taken after the ball. My Marshal met Darin in her room, but he’s not showing up in the character sheet. He shows up in the sheet when the Marshal meets him during the ball instead of mingling. You might want to check over Milon/Lada’s character sheet addition as well (if the Marshal doesn’t meet them at the ball). Not game breaking but not unnoticed either.

@BlindSwift You absolutely can win the final battle after informing the nobles. I did it twice. Granted, this was a Tactics Marshal but still…

I take the short route but I always have at least 1 point worth of light cav (1.5 in my most recent playthrough since I got WQ instead of DTP, and may have missed out on TV) heading into chapter 7.

@Jason3 Total Victory (TV) is earned in Chapter 5 as one of the possible outcomes of the Battle of the Atiming. While it is not the only way to earn this achievement (I’ll let you figure those other ways out for yourself), it does go hand in hand with the Atiming River Massacre (ARM) achievement. Victory (V) is earned in Chapter 9 for winning the final open battle against Rade. As for the ARM, LoghainFury posted an awesome guide upthread.

It isn’t. It really isn’t…

@Van1llaPudd1ng You can’t have sex with Milon (or Lada, for that matter) in ITFO. While both parties can admit they want to have sex, they agree that the moment of said admission is not a good time and place to do so (and they do kiss and have a date later, but there is no sex scene (fade to black or otherwise) in ITFO).

I’ve been trying to get the Total Victory achievement in Chapter 5 and have been looking for a guide which brought me here, can anyone tell me how do I achieve it? I mainly invested in veterans/retinue and a light cavalry. Any help would me much appreciated.

Editing since I am unable to reply more than once on the same topic:
@BlindSwift Thank you for the reply, I tried it out and finally got the achievement thanks to the guide. Do you also happen to know a guide to get Victory (V) in chapter 9 after obtaining ARM?

Currently no I don’t, I THINK that if you choose to tell the nobles about the king’s death and take the shorter route to krorid you could still win the final battle but i’m not 100% sure about that. But at the same time I simply refer to it as optimal because it’s how you get the “total loyalty” achievement where the nobles at the coronation all talk about how they’re grateful for your actions.

The way you raise this stat is by successfully guiding her to be a leader such as giving her advice when she asks for it, i.e. telling her the reason belos died was because he was foolish, or by telling her to be strong on the outside but weak to herself in private. The biggest kill to this stat is taking over when you get to the count’s castle. Let her announce herself and convince the count for troops so she gets a leadership point and doesn’t lose any. It does have an effect on the way scenes play out such as her dialogue at some points and whether she can potentially die or not during the retreat ending for the final battle.

But can you do it by informing the nobles and then taking the short route to krorid where you get attacked and lose a good amount of troops as well without light cav?

If it goes over well then that would be good.

Edit: I previously posted the way to get a different achievement with a similar name. I apologize. Thanks to @snowflower for correcting this, see the post above for how to do it.

@Jason3
I don’t have a guide as of the moment, however I recommend following my previously mentioned guide where you stock up heavily on infantry and archers, however you should aim for having more 3-4 Archers instead of 5, get .5 light cavalry, and then every other point to Infantry. You should be able to get ARM that way. When you get to Krorid get 2 groups of rangers, light cavalry, and infantry and you should be able to get victory.

If you do any of the cavalry charges in the final battle they takes a spear to the body and your character says they won’t live for much longer. Edit: this is the Horse’s death. Elya dies with low leadership and if you retreat from the final battle

That’s actually supposed to be there! It’s referencing part 3 of Shakespeare’s Henry VI play.

It’s lowered in the new code (still not uploaded, but I’ll keep everyone posted).

Good catch!

Do you have a screenshot?

I think I kept the path to victory too obscure. In the new writing, archers are more effective and all options should be more decisive based on your retinue’s traits.

It should be possible with the new code! Just hang in there

Actually, that shouldn’t be a problem. If I’m understanding my spaghetti code properly, this damage is spread onto the cavalry in terms of a unit rather than raw losses. So 7000 rebels would cause 0.467 damage, which is further halved into 0.233. This number is multiplied by fifty as according to its unit

Additionally, I’m pretty sure that the following two *if statements *if (c5_CavalryStrategy != 1) and *if (StrugglingReserves > 0) cannot be true at the same time. If there’s an issue causing mas cas for cavalry, it’s not in that part.

That sounds extremely weird. I hate to ask, but do you happen to have either screenshots or happen to remember your options in that battle? I can’t do much unless I know where exactly to look in the code.

It’s been made easier (or so I think). If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that math is hella finicky to test for. Once the files are uploaded, we’ll see for sure.

The variable I think is c11_VassalLoyalty or something similar, and I plan for it to have a dramatic effect on your troop composition for the second game. Being ruthless is efficient, yes, but burning the villages of your own people is widely seen as a dick move. Certain heavily ruthless actions may have unforeseen consequences down the line…

Yes, but the damage inflicted by such a charge (especially in the updated version) is staggering. Drawbacks, people.

Yup.

@BlindSwift Thank you for all the info!

I really was convinced that my battles went not that good, but now I see I actually did good. All battles where finished with the enemy retreating with a lot of losses for the enemy, my losses were always 200-500 dead while the enemies losses were up to 2000 losses.

The most ruthless parts were when everyone teased my poor stoic MC about Milon…damn she almost stabbed herself right there :joy:

Does anyone know if you can get a night :heart_on_fire: with Milon. I think I played my MC to f*cked up & got only smooching :kissing_heart:

I care not how many rebels I can kill if my poor Astra has to take a spear to the gut to kill a few thousand I’d rather let them get away.

No problemo just glad to be of help.

About that Vasssal loyalty variable, is it intended for taking the tactics guerrilla warfare path in chapter 9 to not increase it whereas winning the actual battle does? and how much of a negative impact will there be from having to use that new horse? is the sequel going to have some sort of horse performance variable or something?

Did you see the Darin character sheet thing earlier? Sorry for making two separate posts about it.
