@MahatmaDagon @Nerull
How do you do, fellow sane human beings?
Is the publishing on track? Everything is fine? Need more testing?
Hey Doomsy. Weāre currently making some arrangements with Choice of Games regarding royalties and tax transactions. Since @Nerull and I are Brazilians and currently live in Brazil, we cannot receive potential royalties in the same way most authors can.
But the game is finished, yes. We intend to update it after the release according to feedbacks, fixes and errors, but it is basically done.
Oh, thatās great to hear. Not the āroyalties troubleā bit, but the"game is finished" bit. Hopefully you got a somewhat valuable experience from it.
Iāve seen your War of the West project, donāt believe it was around when I last appeared. It will be difficult for me to test without a guide, but I can say right away that option to discuss the Kingās letter with your Scholar never goes away, as never does a question āWere they both from the villageā regarding the massacre survivors. You have lost a hide reuse somewhere. Also, asking a Spymaster whether she has a theory automatically ends the dialogue, regardless of which options were used or not before.
Also, going to stats during a āhold courtā re-rolls a court event. So you can get an event, go to stats, return, have a different one.
Anything else I will carry to the main topic. Didnāt want to split two messages.
Lovecraftian game im in,are there romance options?
As I said before really awesome game. the writing was fantastic with pacing being just perfect. The only things that have kinda let me down where the plotlines and characters that never went anywhere and were just red herrings. I dispise them because they are so annoying so many off just donāt go anywhere and if there are too many manage to shift focus from what really crucial story elements and plotlines (these events in my playthrough didnāt really manage to get my creepy factor up just my annoyence factor most of the time. Considering how I now know that many of the are red herrings nearly all of them have been upgraded to annoying.). But that is just personal preferences.
For the future (if you plan to add something or for your upcoming work in this series may that be prequel, spin off or sequel (I personally hope for a sequel but a spin off would be fine too.) ) if you add:
- Femme fataleās and romance options (itās an occult horror story I think they should be a given and on a more serious note considering this is a multiple choice adventure and literally every other has one in some aspect or another a lot of players went in with the expectation of an romance option.)
- Creepyness and a sense of wrongness (while this game had them in spades they were in my opinion nothing in comparrison to āThe Shadow Horrorā because that was soemthing else (Iām not good at describing things sorry
) - Giving me the option to roleplay as Old Man Henderson! Or someone like him. You do that youāve earned my loyalty forever!
So to conclude in all seriousness: Less plotlines that donāt go anywhere or characters that are merely there to go hi/bye itās an multiple choice game if you introduce them to us then atleast allow us to interact with them deeply or atleast give them a purpose other than (give the world some life and breath).
Increase the horror, creepyness and unnaturalness to give us the feeling of hopelessness which was lacking during my playthroughs.
@Lucifer You can have a one night stand with Kevin or Emilia, if I recall correctly. I think both are same-sex events only.
@MasterChief117John Thanks for the feedback. Can you elaborate/give examples on what elements you felt werenāt properly tied up by the end? I donāt think we left anything unexplained, but some of the explanations are really hard to find, and might take some specific combinations of background/archetype/choices from BOTH of your characters.
About the sense of creepiness and wrongness, the narrative and the descriptions of the game changes according to your Sanity value(even the description of characters and the map itself), but I can think of plenty of things that I find disturbing in it regardless of that as well: Paedophilic rings, rapist murderers, mind controlled citizens, prophetic dreams, people following you, contacts being murdered, betrayal from your ābuddyā, ancient worshipping of unknown creatures, conspiracy elements, insane and violent people who are willing to sacrifice themselves, people being used as offerings, the whole notion that no one will believe you regardless of how well you will do your job, the constant questioning of your own sanityā¦
In the end it can just be a matter of opinion, taste or how hard it is to reach certain plot elements because theyāre too specific/hard to find.
I love this game and Iām super excited that itās going to be āofficiallyā released soon. Itās great to have a choicescript game that doesnāt revolve around the usual character-building and relationship mechanics, and the writing, design, and atmosphere are really good.
Also I feel like the game is dark enough as it is. I actually liked the fact that there were a lot of red herrings; it feeds into the overall mood of paranoia and distrust. It also contributes to realism; most people in the town are not in on the conspiracy, even though a paranoid investigator might imagine that they are. In my first playthrough, I followed all the false leads and thus lowered my sanity level a lot, while in my second playthrough, I ignored everything that wasnāt relevant and maintained a high sanity until the very end.
I bought the game but got a game breaking bug. Do I report it here or should I PM the author?
Iām not sure how this goes because I donāt have direct access to the game files, but Iām still the one whoāll fix those bugs in the end and send it to them, unless itās something completely unrelated to Choicescript. What happened?
Also, thank you for your purchase.
EDIT: Also, I think there should be a new thread for discussion of the game now itās releasing. Iāll try to contact the mods about this.
I cant send pictures right now but Iām not sure they would be usefull anyway. It happenend when I arrived at the āmanorā with the second investigator. The screen just went blank when I clicked next to go there and now I cant really do anything other than go to the stat page.
There was also a few times my first inspector who was male was refered to as miss and while questioning alexander about the first inspector they spoke about them using the second inspector name, who was a woman. If I catch them again during another playtrought Iāl screenshot them.
I love the game by the way. The sanity system is great and I know Iāl have multiple playtrought. I especialy love that my character can spend half their time completely stoned. I really hope to see more of your work in the future. Your game style is pretty unique around here rn and I love how much we can customise our character in interesting way. Discovering occultism trough the dark web was a pretty fun backstory to have.
Damn, Iām really sorry that happened to you. I have no idea how a ānextā button could not be working right now, so I think it could be something related to the platform(Iāll need the good people of Choice of Games staff to verify).
The gender mispronunciation and Alexander giving the wrong surname was something I thought we had got rid off entirely, but just like some of the characterās backstory, it always comes back to haunt us.
Weāll be doing everything we can to fix those things as quick as possible.
Also, Iām glad youāre enjoying it! Thereās indeed plenty of replayability potential, just make sure to change your Archetypes and Buddies so you can find some of the unique events related to them. There are even certain combinations that open up unique plot points, and some things that might seem meaningless at first(decorating your house, for example) can have big impacts depending on which ending you reach.
Iāl keep that in mind. Who knowās maybe Iāl blind my enemies with my voice activated light system and them massage them to death on my brand new 600$ sofa.
Joke aside the whole game is really cool. I love how deep the game seem to be and the 10 years later thing was unexpected in a cool way. Youāre really good at making us suspicious of everyone and I really forced myself to trust some peoples. Youāre great at setting up an atmosphere too. Revisiting some of the locations from the prologue was really fun.
My curent character is a weed addicted scholar trying not to let paranoia cloud their judgment and my best bud is a drug dealer so hopefully interesting stuff is gonna go down.
Iām really enjoying the game, my only criticism so far is some of the phonetic Scots language. Iāve lived here all my life and some of the pronounciations or phrases Iāve honestly never heard and sometimes characters who do speak that way will use english words that most Scottish people donāt. They say āyeaā a lot at the beginning for example which stood out to me particularly because itās a word Iād associate with an American not a Scottish person, the word more commonly used is āAyeā. Other than that though itās really good and I understand that this is nitpicky and only something thatād bother someone from Scotland.
I was looking forward to this game but it wonāt even let me purchase it. Bugs, maybe?
@PaleHorse Iāll let Nerull answer you on that, because heās the one who knows Scotland and lived there for a while, while Iām not even sure I know the difference between a bagpipes and a pipe of bags. In the end it could be just the case that he perceived the pronunciations as a foreigner and that was translated into the text.
Still, Iām glad youāre enjoying the game regardless!
Were you trying to buy on Google Play? There was a review there mentioning the same problem. Steam and Appstore seem to be working fine for now.
EDIT: It has been fixed.
Itās out!

Hey weirdly enough it seem like the bug resolved itself. I went back after refreshing the app a few time and suddenly it brought me back to the town āhubā and when I went to mayberry walk it didnt bug this time.
I just finished it and f*cking hell that was fun. The ending came a bit abruptly but Iām really glad of the result and honestly I hope you guys have more detective games in mind because youāre really good at this. I ended up with a score of 17. It would have been great to hear more about the result of our investigation though. I assasinated lenox and then it immediately ended. It would have been fun to hear about the result of leaking the rapist stuff to the press, telling his victim I killed him and other big actions like that. I did kill like the town doctor, Priest, police chief, the rapist at least one guard but it felt like the only murders that got any attention was the macleoud.
It would have been fun to find the first inspector body too but I understand the logic behind them not being found. I also sadly didnt get to inform kevin of W fate despite having saved his friend from the final ritual.
Overall I still gave it a 10 despite the epilogue not giving as much closure as hoped. This is the kind of games Iād love to see more of around here and even tho I know the story now I still wanna see what else I can do. Next playtrough Iāl either be a bloodthirsty criminal or a pacifist detective.
I just realised it was out on the play store. Congratulations
Looks like youāve got some great reviews already.
(If thereās bugs/typos, get people to report them to you. Talk to COG and when you/COG are ready you can submit an updated file with the fixes).
Oh hey last bug I noticed. I couldnt contact my buddy for the last mission. He told me of a meeting place nearby the neighbour town but we couldnt actualy go there.
