Hero Project: Redemption Season News and Discussion

So, wait. Is this game the reason the wip threads are kind of quiet. Makes sense now.
Also, I really wish I could afford the game right now, but I can’t so now I have to wait. Which is sad since from the posts I can guess my favorite psychopathic chicken lover is back.

The problem is not only the railroad, the problem is that you are punished by not playing a character who put the society problems above everything else
Just a example for you: you cant save Miss Boss if your character have 80 Societal or less. It doesn’t make any sense! “You cant save her because you dont care about the discrimination problems and put your family first in your priorities”.
It is cheap, I’m being forced to play in a way I don’t want, because else the character that I most liked (and the RO of my character) is going to die.

Apparently it shows a problem with roleplaying and statchecking too. My character spoke about discrimination literally every chance they had. Guess who still died. Apparently bringing up discrimination in every conversation isn’t caring enough. And here I thought her death was not preventable! Theoretically I’m okay with characters dying due to choices you make, but considering the way stats are read and the fact that she is the only female love interest (not counting Weaver as their gender is determined by you) it becomes kind of frustrating. And character death caused by choices should be a 50/50 thing. Like if you play one way, someone dies. If you play a different way, it’s a different person.
In my opinion, its seems to be some kind of punishement for the player, if they don’t play the way the writer wants to play.

Hell, it seems you are punished if you dont romance the persons who would be discriminated by society.
Did you romance the vision impaired girl/guy/person or the non-binary person? Congratulations, you have a good ending where your RO is conforting your character.
Did you romance the puerto rican bombshell? Too bad, have a bad ending. The degree of bad ending will be decided by if you care or not for the discrimination problems. If you care she enters in coma, if you don’t she dies.
Do you romance the good looking older guy? Too bad, have a crappy ending where he will ignore you and will look at you with hatred.
Critique the game all you want; mocking the LGBTQ community’s acronym, however, is not cool.

The acronym in-game is different from the acronym(s) used IRL. I personally don’t feel like mocking an imaginary spin on our acronym is ‘mocking the LGBTQ community’s acronym’.

I can’t remember the entire acronym that is used in-game but I’m pretty sure at least one(Z?) of the letters only exists in the heroes rise verse.

I certainly enjoyed this story :grinning:, though I can understand how some people are a bit miffed at how the story seem to shape the MC into a particular character. This seems to be characteristic of the writer’s style of writing though, as evidenced in the other Hero series, which collecting Legend points mean there is an ideal path to choose from.

However, do consider that this is only the “first episode” of the season, and I am sure the choices we make will be more impactful then, Also the fact that Miss Boss is put in a coma mirrors Lucky, hence I am sure she will recover again in future episodes. Also, I am pretty sure StarSoar will be another RO that you can start in future episodes. The fact that some RO can end badly like Griffin (I haven’t tried his path yet) seemed realistic and in tune with his character

Spoiler man, a lot of people still havent played the game.

I haven’t played the new game yet, but anybody who has played the original trilogy knows that the author, while otherwise quite excellent, has a penchant for both heavy-handed railroading and overly contrived lectures on LGBT issues. On the former, the author improved over the course of the original trilogy, so I had hoped that the improvement would carry over to the new series. On the latter issue, my friend @FairyGodfeather did a good job of explaining why he had issues with the way trans characters were presented in the Hero Project. Not being LGBT myself, I’m only going to say that positive depictions of authentic LGBT characters do a lot more good than heavy-handed moralizing enforced by deus ex machina.

Meh. I just deleted it. Easier that way.

Huh. Interesting. Dunno if it’s a steam thing, but I can DEFINITELY see my save files for HeroFall on the HeroFall client, but for some reason, it will only read my save files explicitly for The Prodigy.

Fair enough. The context of the original comment was “this game is only about gender identity and sexuality” which I’d argue is not true; taken together with the the acronym bit it felt insulting to me.

Here ALL it’s agenda and propaganda. I am a pro LGB community but If I buy a game about heroes, I don’t expect play LGB propaganda department. This game is made in a way you only could be a type of character with x idea the author thinks is cool, anything else is or hardly punished or skipped from the game. His wonderful writting still. I really think if the propaganda were tone down and be a secondary importance on the plot people would feel a more positive response to the LGB community and no binary people.

Same here can’t access my herofall saves wondering if there is a fix for this yet or will I have to play Herofall again?

I think you should undelet your post. Its a fair criticism, just put spoiler tags.

I can only speak for myself and how I interpreted it, of course. I have no idea what they intended by their comment.

I would agree with some posters here that this particular author can be a bit heavy-handed with LGBT discourse. As a part of the (LGBT) community I love inclusion of LGBT themes when it’s handled in a respectful way, but I don’t think the author has a great track record on that front.

I can’t say anything about this game yet (because I haven’t played it) but one of the most bizarre COG experiences for me (ever) was that one scene in HR: The Hero Project when they gathered every LGBT character in a room and had them fight over LGBT issues for no reason. Like I said, I can only speak for myself. There may be other LGBT players out there that loved that scene.

Meh. I’ll just re write it copy and paste it, but with spoiler tags.
WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW
I too found the game to be lacking. While I did like the cameos made by characters from the first, like my main character, my old sidekick from the first series, etc, I think that after everything that happened, my MC from the first series would have played a much more bigger roll, along with many other characters from the original games. This game punishes the player in more ways then one. I mean, in the first series, the MC was consistently getting hit with failure, never being able to catch a break. And, now that looks like that same failure transferred into the newest MC. I feel like the writer is trying to write a successful story, but, you can’t do that by trying to make the MC’s in each game have an essentially Harry Potter-esque rise, but wayyyy more trial and error.

I think that Sergi should have took a few notes from Community College Hero: Trail By Fire. I’m not saying that CCH was better, it just did some things better. Things easily fixed- but not after a game releases. Things like giving the MC a break, not some sort of crazy mad rush before some idiot destroys the world. Other things, like letting the MC romance characters without punishing them is one of the ones that bother me the most. I would have been (mostly) just fine with the game, you know “It’s not great, but also not horrible” sort of thing, but that fiasco with Miss Boss or Weaver (Really, getting called right before I go talk to the one person I wanted to romance outside of MB?) really pushed me over the edge. It was kinda like saying “Ok, you like MB?” "Wellll it doesn’t even matter, because some crazy idiot “Loa” women probably involved in yet another crazy conspiracy, tells you that to save your Jelly sister (I’m more angry on that then most), you gotta kill one of the contestants almost right off the bat.

I would give that game, after my emotional rant, a 7.2 out out of 10. It could have done many things better, but doesn’t. I doubt the problem will get fixed in the next game. Sergi has backed himself into a corner only he can get himself out of. Now, he will have to deal with the disappointed wrath of fans all around the world. Lol jk. Seriously, though, game wasn’t good. But, it wasn’t horrible. Meh.
There. Man, today is a llll about using the spoil tags isn’t it? Meh. Whatever.

Absolutely a criticism I accept. I’m just being vigilant that we don’t mix criticism of the game and the issues it handles with a criticism of those communities.

Anyone know of a fix for the save files?
Unfortunately, Redemption season only loads Prodigy save files and the access to HeroesFall files are no where to be found.

a) If you don’t have the latest version of HeroFall on your device, update it.

b) You will have to correctly identify/distinguish a HeroFall save from your Prodigy or Hero Project saves to load it.

c) HeroFall didn’t have a savegame command at release. If you played HeroFall on Steam and can’t load your save, you likely have saves from prior to a patch that was made in December. If you played HeroFall and have saves from before December, those saves won’t work.

d) You can try to open HeroFall in Steam and try _downloading_ saves from choiceofgames.com. It won’t download anything, but then an option will appear to _upload_ saves once it realizes choiceofgames.com is behind. That will work in Redemption Season as well, but it will only upload saves.

e) Try opening HeroFall, download from choiceofgames.com with your email address, then upload with your email address. If you’re on Steam, that it may allow you to download saves into Redemption Season that somehow weren’t being synchronized by Steam Cloud.

f) The effect of importing a HeroFall save into Redemption Season is minor, mostly reflecting the love-life of your hero from the first trilogy.
