In fact, playing with the wording is possible. It can be, for instance, that a small capsule from another world appeared in a ruin. And it reads AI when translated, the box or engine or whatever… But it is not an IA; it was just a cheap product from an Interstellar Temu wannabe.
With this example I want to insist that the goal is having fun with the Theme wording
In fact I was saying someone in pm that the game doesn’t have to be an Isekai at all. You put a Ship called Isekai with a GPS being hacked by an AI while you try to poison your landlord, it is in theme…
Like I said the challenge this year is incorporate and merge the theme.
Haha yeah I was thinking it’d be funny to have a character named Isekai or “Kai” for short.
And now I’m remembering the past year’s Halloween Jam entries. The diverse ways people tackle the themes is a really cool thing to see. :') I’m excited
Our community is really eclectic and imaginative. The issue is that games really need a lot of time to make, and people want to sell at the end. We ended up with more games on the safe commercial side.
Totally understandable, but that allows people to use jams to try stuff crazier or experimental due are smaller games in scope and there are not for commercial side. At least most aren’t.
I am always really happy when versions of previous years end up published after being improved and expanded.
Hello just wanted to check but how much are we ok with not going by the dictionary definition of the prompts? I have an idea but it’s not a standard “isekai” per say - more along the lines of a time loop to the same world (Groundhog Day style). I know we can go outside the box I just wanted to double check.
Should be fine however I recommend you adding a Easter egg or something with the word Isekai on it. Just to jest and make things easier to say it has Isekai on it as word lol
…now I’m picturing a jerk speech-recognition AI going “isekai, Isengard, eh, same difference” and replacing all movie viewings in an anime convention with Lord of the Rings.
Or alternatively, Saruman as an isekai protagonist. “Isengard! I said Isengard!”
These themes look great. I really enjoy doing this jam every year, thanks for hosting @poison_mara!
I’m thinking that instead of the isekai trope where a normal human being gets reincarnated as a poisonous dungeon slime, maybe the poisonous dungeon slime gets reincarnated as a normal human. By a very incompetent AI? Something like that!
Don’t remind me of the damn dungeon slimes. Veterans of old editions of D&D know how nasty they are at low levels.
Basically, for non-D&D players, these slimes are mostly translucent and move through the corridors, eating people as they expand to cover everything. So you ended up inside it, paralysed, and with its acidic goo melting you and your weapons. They are worse than mimics.
I don’t know if I’ll join this year since I’m trying to get Wonderland Noir finished up. But I have the beginnings of an idea for a project.
You’re a medieval fantasy hero at the height of your journey, having just defeated the source of the ultimate evil in the world, when a person that looks just like you tries to assassinate you. Only failing because of extreme luck on the part of you and your friends/lovers. The doppleganger, who appears to have power and strength even eclipsing yours, announces that it will kill you in three days and you should settle your affairs before then. You cannot hope to defeat it. Will you try anyways, desperately searching for an edge, possibly dragging the people closes to you into an endless war? Or will you go in peace, and enjoy the time you have left, never knowing if you could’ve had more?
Does it have to be a fantasy isekai? because I want to make a technoganic society be the new world so the Ai corrupting and taking over makes a bit more sense.
