But what if I get conflicting feedback? I guess I’d feel better if some people said it was fine. Can’t please everyone right?

The beginning of my story might be a bit of a challenge to get through, mainly because it only acts as an introduction so I couldn’t add in much choices that would make sense in that setting.
After that, well it would be a bit difficult to do as a newbie to choice script, but oh well. Its trial and error.

First of all, write your vision of the scene and what do you think and feel about it. Then ask help, someone, you trust. I don’t trust in my view normally. @Eiwynn probably could complain hours about how tiresome I am with my insecurities but same time I have a gut feeling that something doesn’t work even when I don’t know why.
This is a small story for a Jam, probably here there is no space or time to add the number of flavour choices that are normal in a WIP. You have to use that to balance the feedback you receive.

One “trick” I think I’m doing in my non-jam IF is sometimes putting part of the info-reader-might-want-to-know in the choices themselves (as in, the MC would know this even if reader might not), so relocates their position from main narrative to the choice section.

I just went over the “introduction” and its 4k words with 7 choices scattered inbetween those blocks of text. But to be fair, at least a 1k of those words are purely from the choices alone.

Just advice on this as a reader. Many people like me hate that type of dynamics as It takes me totally out of immersion forever. As it makes me feel I am reading some kind of manga. Or a business resume… It is, in my opinion, a blunt force way of destroying the fourth wall. I could understand use the stats as a diary with that information but in the main text at least for me are too intrusive.

Noticed that the public beta thread went up. I’m writing a few words here and there and as I’ve mentioned I will in all likelihood not have anything worth submitting, I know I’ve been told to submit what I have, but there is literally almost nothing to submit.
I’ll be happy to read some of the stories submitted, I can make time haha. But I won’t be voting in the jam, just out of principle.

I don’t agree with the notion of it being a contest, if I did vote that makes me a hypocrite. As far as I’m concerned all the stories will be good, people worked hard on them, not to mention we have some experienced writers in the jam, not saying they aren’t welcome, just want to stress that I think all the stories are equally good.

Also to add on to what Mara said, see it more as offering feedbacks maybe your eyes will catch something that the author missed, it could be something about the mechanic or anything really…so just a constructive review will be appreciated I think
