Guenevere (WIP)

I’ve seen stuff like goto sex before , but in general the use of the carrot I find really funny, and all the ‘things’ you can do with it (and how others react quite realistically to the Queen of England carrying a carrot around.

Also if we romance Lance will he cheat on us (sonce he’s a bit of a ladies man) or will he only do that if we arent in a relationship with him.

And my plan for the next part is to storm in to kill everyone, and save Arthur. And just to show we like Arthur so much, break the Cursed Sword.
And I think there’s a challenge kinda place, so we’ll complete the challenges in that place, with Morgana’s smarts, Lance’s Chivalry or Charm, and the fact that I doubt the MC can die before Arthur (and if they can, it’s totallllly sexism, right?)

And if Arthur got injured, I’m pretty sure everyone would secretly blame us. So lower trust.
And then some awkward conversations. And then he can’t going around saving our asses when we get ourselves in trouble.

And I like the beginning, it’s realistic (for the fantasy game) since, honestly a new Queen who doesn’t know her new husband or new best friends that much wouldn’t really have much power, even with an extremely idealistic and caring husband with tons of power.

YESSS DELICIOUS INFO DUMP.

I remembered a post where you said that Pelles and Pellinore might be combined, so I crossed him out. I wanted to ask if the younger Pelleas, who fell in love with Ettard and then Vivien, was going to be in it? I’m guessing not since he obviously can’t romance either?

Okay, awesome, I was confused about Bors! They only listed one so I didn’t know if that was the older, the younger, or if you combined them.

Ahaha, Uriens still made it in! He’s still Ywain’s dad?

Oooh, older Nimue! Fixed

Added everything here! I thought I remembered some knight being a priestess, but I didn’t know it was Baldwin, awesome!

Okay, Grimald and Radagund confused me. My name thesaurus listed a Grimal, a prince, but I figured that was a coincidence and put him as new. There was an amazonian queen Radagund, and that seemed closer enough to just be a rehaul vs. a new character. I’ve put them both under new!

So Evaline is an oc and not an adjustement of Lionel’s mom Evaine? Okay good, added her to new.

I also wanted to ask- I noticed both Aglovale and Morien are knights, so seemingly Morien and Aglovale are both second gen. Is Aglovale actually an older knight and first gen and Morien his younger second gen son, or are they not related at all here?

Thank you, this is great!

Edit: Also I have Beatrice as second gen, but is this a new Lady Beatrice or an adjustment of the original Beatrice?

Hmm… I wonder if Guen could gain points with the Frankish nobility by saying she and Lancelot are close friends - and potentially more? That said, viewing him favourably isn’t stopping them from going to war against the kingdom he serves, which would run the risk of killing him, so… I was thinking if Guen could arrange a l’il :kissing_closed_eyes: between Lancelot and Radagund it’d make diplomacy (read: assimilation) easier… Actually, come to think of it… who needs Lancelot? Why bother romancing Tilda to bring about “peace” between Britain and Frankenmarch when Guen can aim straight for Radagund and at the very least become besties by regaling her with tales of the mighty Lancelot’s valiant quests?

Regarding the carrot bomb, now you have me picturing Guen throwing the carrot and then a bunny-shaped mushroom cloud appearing…

Looking over the appendix of characters, I was going to ask if Sir Ironside the Red Knight from Gareth’s, Lynette’s, and Lyonesse’s legend would make an appearance, possibly as a precursor to Mordy… but then I had flashbacks of Quest for Camelot. :scream:

Oh God. I hope not. That would be considered character-ruining for almost everyone. There is a difference between marrying another lady for obligation (just like we had to marry Arthur) and actually going behind our backs “collecting daisies”.

I’m glad you like it. One of the rules with the carrot is that every possible use is unique, so, for example, there is only one chance in the game to use it as a bomb, only one chance to use it as a knife, only one chance to eat it, and so on. I wish I could make an achievement for finding all possible ways to use the carrot, but I don’t know if ChoiceScript can carry information like that from one playthrough to the next.

Lance will marry Elaine eventually, so I don’t know if that counts. Otherwise, no, he wouldn’t cheat. And his days of actually being a ladies’ man are over regardless, though his reputation as such may persist.

I think you’ll basically be able to do that?

Nah, that’s all on Arthur. He’s the one who went running off willy-nilly after the wrong Guen.

I can’t believe I just used “willy-nilly” unironically in a sentence. It’s been a weird weekend.

That’s good to hear. A story needs to start with obstacles, after all, or there’s not much story to tell. In Guen’s case the main obstacle is her powerlessness, and the story is all about her overcoming it.

Yeah, it’s a long development process and I change my mind about a lot of stuff, so thank you for not holding me to anything I may have said in the past, or am saying now. I’m sure I’ll change lots more things before I’m done.

When I first planned out the game, I wasn’t even going to include the Grail, but now it’s the central McGuffin of part 7, so things do change.

No, just Lot’s brother.

The name is sort of inspired by Evaine, but yeah, Evaline is totally original.

Aglovale is about 40 when we see him in part 1, and his son Morien has just been knighted (15-16 is knighting age). Aglovale and Morien’s mother weren’t married; Morien spent his early childhood with his mother in Ethiopia and then sought out Aglovale later on. (all subject to change, but I do want Morien to be there.)

This is basically a new Lady Beatrice. She’s definitely second gen.

Well, suggesting “potentially more” could get her in huge trouble, so that’s not going to happen. They already know that Lancelot is part of Arthur’s court, so just name-dropping him isn’t going to have much effect. However, if he’s there with Guen to translate her speech…

As for romancing Radagund, that would be pretty great, but there’s not really enough scope for such things in the very brief amount of time that Rad and Guen get to interact – also Rad’s security aren’t exactly going to let her be alone with someone she just met, especially not the queen of the nation she’s attacking.

 I don’t think there’s anything in the description to contradict that.

I hadn’t planned on it, but the story has certainly accreted all sorts of things since it was first conceived, so you never know.

That reminds me; how is Arthur actually going to feel about that and how will he react to Guen about it? And how will Guen be able to react to him?

I would imagine that even though all of the Guens are exactly alike, that’s got to be a gigantic source of shame for Arthur, finding out that you’ve chased after your wifes doppelganger in such a fashion; it would likely give Arthur a very large sense of guilt that he didn’t know his wife as well as he thought he did, and the lives he’s cost in the pursuit of such a misguided goal.

I would also imagine that there would be various ways in which Guen could respond to this; some may be sympathetic, some may be utterly indifferent to the situation since there was no way to differentiate between the Guens in the first place; a kind of ‘it’s done now and whatever happens happens’ deal (my Guen all the way for that one), and there are undoubtedly some people who may choose to be vindictive and cold, likely even accusatory towards Arthur for screwing up so royally.

The amount of potential there piqued my interest, is all. People would certainly get pissed at Arthur for such a course of action; even though there was no way for anyone save Lancelot to differentiate the Guens, hindsight is such a beautiful thing. And such an annoying thing when you’re on the receiving end as well; as it will be for Arthur.

That she’d get into trouble if her affair with Lancelot went public makes perfect sense - that’s what ultimately happens in the “canon” legend, after all.

So, in other words Rad being an RO would be nice (yay) but isn’t possible if only due to those darn guards not giving them any privacy…? Aww… not even if Tilda were to vouch for her? :disappointed: Oh well. As they say, there’s more than one way to conquer a kingdom…

 Although maybe a sheep-shaped mushroom cloud would be more appropriate given the carrot’s intended use.

Oh no… :fearful: If he is anything like Ruber… :scream:
That said, it would be interesting to see how the different Guens would react to Arthur making someone so obviously evil a Knight of the Round Table.

I’ve seen this implemented on at least two (I think more) CS games or WIPs somewhere. I just can’t remember which ones. But I think you have to pick the Play Again option at the end not the Reset button for it to work. Regardless it’s doable and exists I just can’t remember when and where I saw it so I don’t know who to tell you to ask. Lol.

Tilda as an RO would be really great. She seems to have that perfect lady/fighter mix I always look for.

Excaliburs must be abundant in Camelot…

This is interesting. It could be potential for a sympathetic Guen (which is what mine would most likely be) to ease her husband’s guilt. In ahem whatever way the author chooses.

Or could also be potential for other Guens to complain to either Lancelot or Morgana, depending on your RO choice.

If your Guen is the no-love-for-me-but-the-love-of-power type, then she could probably spread rumors to certain nobles/influential merchants about Arthur’s uselessness.

The possibilities are endless! xD

Its been a while since I’ve played through whats been released so far, but I’ve been in the mood lately so I decided to play through it all again! I can’t wait for the full release of Part 2 (or is it still considered part 1…?) So good luck in writing!!!

Yes, exactly. @poison_mara will finally have her chance to make Arthur feel miserably guilty. Other Guens, by contrast, can try to comfort him. I want to try to make a big range of possible reactions and outcomes.

All of those things are on the list of stuff I want to incorporate, if possible, at the end of part 2.

That is a good point. It would be a more extreme version of the possible reactions to Arthur welcoming Meligaunt at Camelot.

Ok, that’s good to know. Definitely something to try to figure out when the time comes to add achievements.

She is high up on the list of candidates.

@flowersloveoranges Thank you! I need all the encouragement I can get; the Camelot battle is such a slog… but I’m getting there, little by little. It will be the full release of part 2.

Also, just a reminder, everyone, that dropbox will no longer work for hosting the game after (I think it was?) Oct. 3. I will try to figure out some other way to host it, but I can’t promise to have that sorted out by the time dropbox drops me. I would like to make a dedicated website for hosting the WIP, and I don’t mind paying the $10/month or whatever to do it, but I’ve never made a website before and I don’t know how much self-teaching that would involve. I may try to stick it on dashingdon or whatever Lordirish comes up with temporarily, in the hope of making my own website someday. So please bear with me while all of that is getting figured out.

That sounds brilliant.

Hopefully there’s something along the lines of:

Guen: “Was there any discernible way you could have known it was me?”

Arthur: “No, but-”

Guen: “-then stop bothering me. What’s done is done; regret gets us nowhere.”

Because my Guen just gets annoyed by the fact that he’s letting emotion and regret prevent him from being productive.

My Guen’s kind of an abrasive asshole.

@jeantown: Hi Jeantown! Quick question: Dependent on your established relationship with Arthur, and your characters personality, will his reactions to your commentary at his behavior in chasing after a ‘Guen’ change?

Like some people will have established that they marry Arthur for duty, that’s final, and simply tell him what’s done is done, would have Arthur be more stoic about it, than a Guen who is normally head over heels and all soft and fluttery telling him the same thing? It will be interesting to see, none the less.

I’m just hoping I can give Arthur a light whack, and get all sniffly. “You idiot!” wails, hugs him “Let me handle the magic stuff from now on!”

In a similar train of thought…will we ever get the option to have a magic-versed Guen tell Arthur (the non-magical potato in the team) that he should rather relinquish control to her in magic based scenarios, knowing she would know better, if, say, he didn’t have Morgana/Lance for advice, for whatever reason?

And while Morgana is definitely more magically capable than a magical Guen, and while Lance doesn’t practice magic, how would Lance and Guen compare through magic tactics/theory? Example, if Lance is fighting a wizard, I’m sure he’d have some knowledge on how to combat that, etc.

Thank you for being awesome!!!

Given all the bumbling Arthur seems to do in Book 2, I’m kinda hoping that Mistress Guen makes her return afterwards.:grinning:

And if Arthur pouts again if/when I execute Meligaunt, I’m gonna slap him upside the head.

None, actually – a Choice of Games is a “website in a can”. The method for uploading files will likely be a bit different, but once you’ve uploaded all the files, you just need to publicize the new URL.

Now, you could create a homepage that contains a link to the current WIP plus other things (link to your Facebook, an FAQ page, fanart / fanfiction, and so forth) – that would require learning new stuff. But if all you want to do is reproduce the functionality that you have on Dropbox, then the only change will be the upload procedure.

I just realized, if Aglovale is about 40, does that mean he’s not Pellinore’s son here? (And Morien his grandchild)? I’m guessing not, since they’re one of the bloodlines here and Morien is illegitimate?

Also, I realize you are still working out everybody and things are still subject to change, but any chance of getting a family tree chart someday? It’s helpful to remember who is who and who is related to who, especially if someone isn’t familiar with characters in the KA mythos and who they are family of.

@jeantown

Heh… it might be interesting, should you choose to add Sir Ironsides in, for one of the options to be Guen reminding Arthur what happened with Meligaunt, with varying degrees of vehemence depending on her general personality and relationship with him. :smiling_imp:

If I forget to put in an no-nonsense option like that, please remind me. I definitely want it to be there.

Maybe, to some extent? You’ll probably see some small differences depending on whether the game has flagged him as “romance,” “friend,” or “not friend,” and maybe some variation based on trust and past choices. But, of course, there’s only so much I can do if I want to get this thing finished before I die.

That’s not something I really have planned per se, but Arthur wouldn’t be averse to taking advice from Guen in such a situation. We’ll see how things go in the enchanted forest.

Yes, he would. (In fact, that knowledge may come in useful if you take him on the Camelot branch.) If Guen is a spellcaster herself, her knowledge will eventually outstrip Lancelot’s, although he is able to see certain magical effects that most people (including Guen) will never be able to see.

Probably not in as much detail, but yes, Guen will be able to jump into bed with Arthur at the very end of part 2 if she so desires.

@mreed Thanks… that’s encouraging. I figured it would be pretty easy as long as I could find a hosting service that lets me upload files. And just slapping the files in there for now would not preclude me from someday making it into a “real” website of my own, with links and art and stuff, if I’ve claimed the url.

Right. Aglovale and Tor are related to the Pellinores, but not in the royal line.

That’s a good idea. I’ve already started a list of all the characters, with little descriptions of each. As we get into the next generation, a family tree could be really useful. I’ll keep it in mind.

I do hope I’ll be able to give some options in the future for Guen to bring up Arthur’s past choices.
