Giveaway! Unlock tribes for free in Werewolf: The Apocalypse — The Book of Hungry Names

Steam says it’s on the 26th, though?

So it might be kind of a very short window for the giveaway.

It’s less than 48 hours, yes.

What of the discrepancy between release dates?

I feel like you must be in a radically different time zone or something. This is what I see when I look at Steam.

I AM on GMT, so I’m like 7 hours ahead, but Steam releases tend to all be at about my 5-6pm, so it’s weird that it’d make it fall on a different day.

According to the notes in the code the planned dlc tribes are Ghost Council and Silent Striders for dlc 2 and for dlc 3 Red Talons and Galestalkers. I’m most excited for Silent Striders though a “try my utmost to kill as many humans as I can no matter how mad the game gets at me” as a Red Talon Ahroun does sound a bit fun

As much as I hate the idea of victim blaming, it really is only ourselves we have to blame for that sour taste left in our mouth. Because believe me, I completely agree with literally everything you said in this comment.

But ultimately WoD and by extension both Vampire the Masquerade, and Werewolf: The Apocalypse, are properties owned by Paradox Interactive. So we really should’ve seen this coming. Anyone with even a little bit of experience with their gaming publishing history, can tell you that they’re infamous for their DLCs and micro-transactions.

I’ll freely admit though that the fact that the very first DLC was build into the game from the start, with players able to interact with content about the tribes even without owning the DLC, is a new low for them. It would be fine for players to be able to buy the DLC at launch, or well it would at least be acceptable if nothing else, if those options weren’t in the game, but the fact that they made the player be able to pick them as potential tribes to join? That was just nasty of them. At least in the Vampire the Masquerade games, the DLC option is clearly outlined, and won’t play a role in the story at all unless the player buys the DLC.

They could still add git of fenris if they wanted. The tribes aren’t exact. The furies in this allow men and patron is a gorgan instead of a Pegasus. Although if they did add it it’d have to be like a separate group than the racist nazi ones. Which could add some interesting dialogue about dominance over the last of that tribe. I’d be ok with a bad guy tribe. Glad too know it’sa dlc though cause I was wondering how come I couldn’t join hart wardens

This is actually really interesting, that’s a lot of extra tribes. I actually had to look up Galestriders and Ghost Council, and they seem to be the replacements for the 3 Siblings Native Tribes?

The fact that Red Talon is being given is weird, nifty but weird. I mean, I’m all for all tribed being added; just cause i love the series. The weird thing is just me trying to imagine how a Red Talon MC would be.

Like the Get if Fenrir is one thing, they were dumb, tried to fix their mistakes, and their patron god seems to be having issues. Leading some of its members to be rather deranged. So, it’s more of an issue with their patron.

Red Talons though :joy: They’re on another level.

But, i think there are two other things that may potentially come that will be even cooler, and i have absolutely zero evidence to actually back the theories. Except for two scenes that could either be hints, or just cool side info.

In general, I agree with you that Day 1 DLCs feel like a ripoff, but we’re giving this DLC away at no additional charge to anyone who buys the game on release day. This is a Day 1 Giveaway, not merely a Day 1 DLC; it’s a completely different animal, don’t you think?

Note that we also did it this way for Night Road back in 2020. Fans who bought the game on day 1 got access to the Usurpers and Outcasts DLC at no additional charge. This approach allowed us to reach the Bestselling charts on Steam, iOS, and Android, attracting new buyers who’d never heard of us before, while still allowing us to reward our most loyal fans with free DLC.

Yep

The author will probably just make them a bit less murderous to due the desperate situation or something like that. W5 already removed the whole wolf born only requirement/very strong preference if I read right.

Regardless of my thoughts on the matter with how White Wolf have portray them so far in W5 I doubt they are going to let them be playable in any official product anytime soon

Oh, don’t take my post as critisim towards CoG at all! Giving it away for free like that is admirable, and something I can definitely support. If games do need DLC on launch, then giving buyers the chance to get it for free if they’re early birds is definitely the right way to go about it.

It opens up the window of giving early players a bonus for being early, and the people that experience the game later on are unlikely to even know that it was day 1 DLC in the first place, and as such it won’t really come across as problematic to them.

The main gist of my comments, were primarily aimed at how Paradox insists on their games and properties having DLC as fast and early as possible, and ideally with as many DLC packs as they can get into the package. Obviously that’s something I know that employees of CoG can’t really comment on, since I would imagine there’s clear and probably pretty strict rules and stipulations contractually in regards to that situation, which allowed CoG to make WoD games in the first place. My frustration was as a result, not aimed at CoG at all and I give none of the blame for the situation on y’all, but towards Paradox, in much the same way I’m frustrated with them because of the way Stellaris, CK3, etc. has handled the idea of DLC as well.

So its a day 2 DLC then? That doesn’t sound much better.

Giving the DLC for free day 1 is nice, because then the people eagerly waiting for the game wont have content they saw in the demo paywalled to them, so, congrats?

I might be a little cynical, but from outside, this also looks a bit like a way to rush people to buy the game on release, since “hey, if you buy it NOW, the DLC is free!”.

I dont like this very much, is this just a Paradox thing, or are most collaborations with “foreign” IPs going to have this sort of stuff?

Thank you but not for me. The W5 Garou are absolutely not for me.

I mean I don’t think this is too bad, it just adds two more tribes for free if you buy the game, and it won’t really impact the gameplay too much.

especially if you want to go tribeless anyway, as any one tribe requires a type of personality, and you might not vibe with them and their three spirits anyway, not sure how valid that is but that’s my plan at least.

You will have to choose a tribe before the last couple of chapters, and there’s always at least one you can join. However, there are some significant advantages to joining a tribe earlier on if you find one that fits you.

It’s the principle of it. It doesn’t add two more free tribes, it adds two more tribes for those that are willing to buy the game on the very first day of release. What about someone who doesn’t have time to buy the game on day one, why should they be shafted when they buy it on day 2 just because they were busy working a 12 hour shift at work on day 1 to make sure they have money to buy the game in the first place?

The two for Night Road including it’s day one dlc did add more then just the clans. Honestly how I will feel about this will depends on what is exactly added and what is the cost of the dlc
